    This project was for our new client who found us through TH-cam and because it's not very expensive or special car he setup budget on $1800 which makes the undercarriage really nice and clean (we could spent probably another 2hours and it will be perfect) but client was very happy with result and that's the important thing for us.

    We believe that we are the first and only one detailing studio in the USA who operate this unique machine ColdJet PCS60. Which make us very unique. And we can offer same perfection underneath your car like we doing on exterior or interior.
    What is Dry ice blasting? It is a non-abrasive method that safely cleaning surfaces and/or removing unwanted coatings. We can clean leather/fabric interior, we can clean paint on the car if we want and in the same time we can strip the paint down from the car if we want. Depend on settings.
    How to start Dry ice cleaning business?
    (this is message that I made for respond all people who asking for info)
    Since I’m not a distributor would be the best to contact directly the company for dry ice machine you’d like to buy. Every day I have so many calls, emails and messages with questions about the machine but unfortunately I can’t help everyone separately.
    So hopefully this info will help you.
    Mobile or fixed location? I was thinking about do mobile dryice cleaning a lot but it’s complicated and more expensive. You will have to deal with portable auto lifts, huge generator tow behind the car, space for work where you can make a lot of mess and also nobody will care that you producing CO2 in that close space (outside is ok) and also the most annoying thing is the noise because you will make 100db+ and I mean 20-30ft from the machine is 100db such a terrible noise for neighbors (it’s like a jet)
    The work alone is really messy, everything will be covered very quickly with tons of dust. Also it’s really hard work (physically) and I mean it! The blasting gun and hose are very heavy and not very flexible. Then you blasting with high pressure 50-80psi (usually) and imagine doing that 5-12hours per day with your head constantly up when you standing under the car and don’t forget that you will wear face mask, ears protection and probably full cover on your body otherwise you will be dirty like never. So trust me if I say that’s one of the most difficult work you will ever experienced. So always is the best to have a fixed location with proper ventilation (in close space you can be dead very very quickly) and you will need nice friendly neighbors that will be okay with that noise you making all day every day.
    What you will need for start?
    You will need a rotary screw compressor (30hp) min 125PSi with big tank (ideal 200gallons+) then you will need really good quality air dryer 150cfm+ (dry air is very important for proper working)
    Then of course Dry ice machine that you like (brands here in the US that I found Coulson Ice Blast, Coldjet, CoolMaster)
    Then you will need a lift for the car and also 3phase power in the building and expect big bill for electricity every month. I have pretty good setup and because we are in CA we pay $12 per hour just for electricity when the machine is running. Be also prep for washing every car after the work because the dust from underneath will be everywhere.
    All together very realistically you will need $70k-100k for everything to start this business and price will change up with better quality machines. My setup was around $90k
    Also don't forget to ask for dry ice supplier (many companies are out of stock because of COVID19)
    Hopefully that helps you. Otherwise please contact the company who selling the machine that you want. I can not answer individually everyone I'm sorry.
    The best of luck
    Jakub

    Underneath all that dirt was a wax coating, porsche uses to protect everything from corrosion and oxidation. You removed it and leaves the metal exposed to rust and oxidation, my suggestion is to reapply wax to make it like original.

    • @pete0007
      @pete0007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Its called Cosmoline and it is used to protect metals from corrosion, it does work well doing so and is a thick goo wax. It is hard to remove because chemicals don't melt it very easily. Another problem is where every anything it is coated gets hot it burns on into a hard crust making it near impossible to remove with chemicals. I have been able to do it with a few products but its very time consuming. The dry ice seems to have no trouble chipping the baked on Cosmoline with out scaring the surfaces whish is amazing. I would say any approach is vey messy and nothing is easy. Chemical and brushes can do it nice and quiet, but it will take 100 times longer that this machine can do it. Too bad the side effects are so tough (Cost, mess, noise, etc.). I have dreamed of doing this business for years, but as mentioned the up front expense is huge. You will have to do a lot of vehicles to profit well. I hope in time there will be a smaller consumer type machine that can do this type of detailing at a smaller cost effective way for the hobbyist. I'm sure Griot, Eastwood and China are all working on this. Thanks for spelling out what's involved, because your video's make it look too easy. Please post a video of behind the scenes of how messy and loud it is as well as how awkward it is to use.

    • @velvetjones1856
      @velvetjones1856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get the cost of the equipment but the charges for its use seem like you could recover the investment within a reasonable time. Every larger detailer that has a higher end customer base might justify one. Or folks who do restorations on cars could clean a lot without doing a full frame off. Save money for the owners.

    • @johnwalters878
      @johnwalters878 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      90 k for the equipment is a huge investment for the risk of return. Also bulk dry ice isn’t cheap, takes a lot of it, and often isn’t available in all areas. Yes you can buy cheaper equipment, but the results and durability are questionable. Also the cheaper ones require very specific size of dry ice particles, exploding the consumables price. It’s a super niche market for sure. Many kudos to I AM for taking the risk and seeing the results !

    • @IAMDetailing
      @IAMDetailing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnwalters878 I agreed with all these comments and definitely was and still it’s big risk for me, but I always trying to find new different things... So I took the risk + I have tons of Porsche people around me. And Porsche/Mercedes owners take care a lot of their classic cars.

    why not making kind of a railsystem on the ground where you mount the dry-ice nozzle on it, pointing upwards so you could let it run by itself in a pattern that would cover the whole undercarriage? and if not run automatically, at least it would save you from holding the heavy thing yourself. or even just mounting it onto a tripod with wheels underneath would make it a lot easier.

    How can you make money finally? Any idea on net income in % of a total job, like for this $1800 Porsche cleaning? What amount is left at the end for you? How long to do this particular job ?

      @@IAMDetailing Thank you for your franchise...Someone told me it would be be a good idea for a beginner to rent a ColdJet on a daily basis ( can be done here at Union Carbide/Praxair, who also sell you the dry ice 3mm pellets) and rent a tow compressor for the day running on diesel.... The other problem is to find a garage with a lift....away from the neighbours...

    I can understand wearing protective gear to keep you from inhaling carbon dioxide, but why is it necessary to tent the car all the way around? Please advise.

      Because my shop is usually pretty clean and I have white glossy floor and this thing making so much dust that I had to made a booth for keeping dirt inside as much as possible 😉

    Would it help if it was washed and degreased... wouldnt it make it easier to just use the dry ice to finish off...? I understand the mess it would make but ...

    I'm at a loss as this is not dirt, I wonder as to why you would remove underseal from a vehicle ... unless the car not now to go outdoors ... the time taken to replace it is not remedied by the slash and dash replacement with a lesser product. Pre 2002 underseal is a much more chemically robust product than that now allowed.

    I would've loved to have seen how clean this particular car would've come out using citrus cleaner Luke P21S or Oil Eater. The car really wasn't that dirty in that the dirt was caked on.
    Dry Ice cleaning us impressive but I don't think this particular car needed it.

    • @IAMDetailing
      @IAMDetailing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The biggest difference is time and energy spent. Dry ice makes it much easier and therefore faster.

      @IAMDetailing I understand what you're saying in theory. My point is that people should highly consider a precleaning with a citrus spray before getting a dry ice cleaning. It can likely save them a decent amount of money. Using a citrus cleaner doesn't take long at all. As a detailed, you know this.
      I get why people are posting videos of dry ice cleaning only. Makes for entertaining videos. I approach it differently though. I like to approach these kinds of things from a pragmatic way.
      My point is the car used in this video could've gotten at least 80% as clean as it was after the dry ice cleaning. In many instances a citrus cleaner simply needs to be sprayed on, let it sit for several minutes and then hit it with a high pressure water source

    What about CO2 toxicity?

      CO2 is a plant fertilizer. Do this process in a normal ventilated garage and you are okay.

      After this to apply a new wax sealant so that rust/corrosion doesn't get a chance in affecting the materials.
