some things to add: -Part 11127 can be placed under this piece to make a larger contiguous crystal structure; the octagonal shape is the same. -The vast majority of transparent colors in Lego's catalog are UV reactive, that is to say they glow under blacklight or other UV light. Interestingly, of the three transparent blue colors this part appears in, Trans-Medium Blue is the only one that has this quality. -It is not uncommon for Lego to use this piece to represent a power source of some kind, although this didn't really happen in Power Miners to my understanding. -In Lego's official color listings, what Bricklink calls "Trans-Neon Green" was actually referred to as "Fluorescent Trans-Yellow" at the time, hence the possible confusion.
I believe they were considered power sources in power miners, that's why they were being mined in the first place. Also when the rock monsters ate them they became supercharged. I was a big power miners fan when I was a kid, lol. I remember playing that goofy rock monster launch game on the website.
@@RonnieNichols I can confirm that in rock raiders the neon trans yellow were used exclusively as a power source. In the video game they would be processed in power plants and had a rather long but finite lifetime before they had to be recharged at a crystal seam. Power miners seems to draw very heavily on the rock raiders sets and I think the premise is basically identical.

Big Yellow in April: a bit worried an Insane Aquarium vid is outside her normal audience, makes it their april fools day joke Big Yellow in November the same year: sure. Fuck it, lego time. Mad respect. Ily part 30385
So is Yellow Enby or Trans or what? It's still not entirely clear to me as someone who only follows on TH-cam, just curious as I've seen several people use different pronouns for them. Regardless I'm loving this channel, no matter what the subject of the video is it always manages to be interesting and entertaining even when it's about something so absolutely niche and specific I know nothing about.
I use this thing 24/7. TransOrange as muzzle blast, TransRed as blood spray, Pearl Gold and Yellow as sparks, the TransGreen varients as alien blood and slime, the TransBlues as water splashes... etc etc.
YESSS! Neon lime yellow-green, chartreuse, highlighter, lime, or whatever you want to call it is my favorite color. I think it's pretty likely it's use on this exact piece (and others) from Rock Raiders is a big part of what made it my favorite: I was never a big Lego person, but I loved the transparent neon lime pieces from that set as a kid in the 90s/00's
YES! SOMEBODY ELSE WHO LOVES THIS COLOR! It’s so cool and spooky, I use it for nearly everything I draw! Personally, I like using #e7ff28 specifically, and I call it “Toxic Lime.” It goes REALLY well with crimson and black!
I like how the crystal is both natural and a treasure. Great seeing someone as enthousiast about powerminers as some people are about rockraiders. I like how powerminers included a lot more monsters and the blue minifigs look really cool.
i remember being mesmerised by this piece when i first got one from the mountain hut creator set, and it really is so damn cool. No lego laboratory or magical place is complete without one
my real take away from this video is that my parents apparently bought all of those belville sets. I don't remember putting them together, or really ever playing with them properly, but I remember when we had a big box of loose lego and peices from those sets were in there. Like the witch and her dog, and the mountain pieces and snow flake piece. so strange to see them again!
Big Yellow pulling a topic out of their ass and not only making an amazing video out of it but also triggering all the nostalgia cells in my brain once again.
On a completely unrelated note, you just reminded me why I love Boldore and Gigalith so much - my favorite Lego toy has always been the transparent red little rock monster from Power Miners, I remember playing with him so much. When I first saw Boldore, I immediately loved it and didn't know why. But the same synapses light up when I stop to appreciate the design. Lovely video, as always!
Since this video we've got a couple of new colours! Sand green in, ew, hogwarts, but also satin trans purple in a bunch of stuff. They've made it core to the City Space line, which is actually quite a fun little sub line, nice to see City doing more than copaganda and being boring. Exciting times for the rock 1x1 crystal 5 point.
When I played with my siblings growing up, there was a whole lore surrounding this piece. We stacked a bunch of matching studs with this piece on top. It served as a sort of “sorting hat” but for the select few mini figures chosen to be superheroes! That’s super random and specific but I guess we found this piece alluring too! 😂
"A really nice figure, I might have to pick one up myse-eeehhhh!" Ah yes, one of my all-time favorites. The magnificent Rock Raiders Chief! I bought one of him when his price started to go up - for $25 - because I had a feeling it would keep going up. I'm glad I did, and he is in mint condition. But dang, I wish I'd bought 20. I could have sold off half, and hoarded the other half for later.
honestly i would never have the confidence to upload a video like this to my channel with usually unrelated content but i'm glad you do cause this shit is fire. very entertaining and fun. now i wanna watch lego content
I remember having a few Pearl Gold variants of this Piece when I was younger, I think most if not all of them were from those old Lego Board Games that used the Microfigures (those itty bitty 1×1 Lego Figures).
I love this piece too, and man, Power Miners was such a great theme! I got every set of the first wave (minus the Crystal Sweeper, which I bought a few years back,) and I adored the crystals and rock monsters. It's a shame it only lasted two waves, apparently they had some huge plans for later waves. The chrome crystals are really neat too, but I do wish we'd gotten that trans-yellow one. Having it on the box and not including it was such false adverting. Glad to know I'm not the only one obsessed with these.
for someone who grew up with lego, and has a father that's MASSIVELY into lego, i really appreciate these types of videos so i can connect with him better. he sticks to city stuff, and I'm more into customs and brickarms. i hope he gets a kick out of this video like i did, keep it up fellow ginger
I saw the thumbnail and my brain instantly went catapulting back to 1999 playing with my Rock Raiders sets, cracking open the boulders to find the green crystals inside. I don't know how that entertained me over and over again, but the trans light green crystal piece is just so good that it's a surprise every time, I guess. Also IIRC collecting more of this piece was the core gameplay goal in the Rock Raiders video game, which officially means it is the best video game yet made.
This is such a specific video and I love it lmao. I'm not even really a lego person honestly, like I love looking at them but never built them or bought them myself but I love your clear enthusiasm for lego. Love your variety content.
You had me up in arms for a second there. Power Miners is the Zoomer Rock Raiders. The crystal is and shall forever be an Aquazone and Rock Raiders piece lol.
absolutely love your nail color, purple def needs to be a crystal color! Power miners was so good, I still have a bunch of the set pieces around here and probably got a few crystals too for sure
The Power Miners sets were what got me into lego, and I remember asking, begging, and spending my own gifted money to get them as an 8 year old. My favorite would have to the Thunder Driller, followed closely by the crystal sweeper. I remember being disappointed in the later 2010 iterations, but I was getting into parts of City and Hero Factory at that time. Def earned my sub dude. Keep it up!
"How many colors was it printed in, and how many of those colors look undeniably tasty?" (Okay, already commented at length in the teal followup, but damn if my particular nostalgia wasn't instantly materialized by pulling Aquazone out from my figurative eyes and back in front of my actual eyes again.)
Idk how you consistently create banger content about things I know zero about but I love and respect you for it thank you very much for describing the storied history of this piece i think I used once in a legends of chima set
How is my girlfriend supposed to believe me when I say, "No sweet heart, I'm not ignoring you. I will talk to you as soon as I finish watching this 20 minute analysis/history lesson if this single 30 year old lego piece."
The big thing I personally liked about Rock Raiders was that the minifigs all had so much character. They really were a team of distinct individuals. Personally I always liked the Rock Raiders more than the Power Miners. This is just personal interpretation, and may be colored by the fact that I've never played any of the games, but based solely on visual appearance it feels to me like the Rock Raiders have a grungier "roughneck" look while the Power Miners feel more corporate industrial. Like, the Raiders are out on the frontier discovering new claims and mining out new deposits, and the Miners come in behind them to set up the harvesting and refinement infrastructure afterwards.
My favorite part about the piece is that there’s a little spot on the bottom where you can put a rod piece in, so you can put one of the same transparent color and it makes a cool looking staff or club.
A very unique piece that wouldn't even look out of place glued to the base of a 40k figure, though 30213pb01 will always be my personal favourite Lego piece, always had a soft spot for the insectoids as it was one of the few Lego mini sets I was able to afford back in the day with my little pocket money, even have this grey & copper sticker on top of it and looking like a power crystal.
13:23-13:43 That was actually the point; every manual for the first wave of Power Miner sets had power crystals attached to or inside of the mining equipment. The promotional videos on Lego's TH-cam Channel for the Power Miners and the comics in the Lego Magazine clearly depict why: After mysterious earthquakes shake the Lego World, a team of engineers dig deep into the crust to discover the tremors were caused by rock monsters, who'd violently shake after they ate power crystals. Realizing the immense energy stored in the power crystals, they used it to power their machines and harvest the rest of the power crystal deposits before the rock monsters could reach them to prevent more harm on the surface, hence the name the series, Power Miners.
I absolutely love the power miner sets, I had so many of them and even if they never really worked as advertised having those working vehicles was cool and those rock monsters are just cute.
Dude... Obscure pokémon mechanics and competitive metagame history AND detailed information about obscure LEGO elements! You're hitting all of my buttons. Make something about crayons, old coins, or pro wrestling and my head will explode. Loving it!
Love the tons of topical jumps, so fun to always keep it fresh while still enjoying the same core - your humor, the chill vibes, the fascinating depth of some of these very niche things. Yet there are still some fun staples to look forward to like Pokémon and fighting games. Loving the direction the channel has gone, thanks for what you do! :)
I think... I think you helped me realize something today. Power Miners was literally my favorite LEGO series, But I never got any of the sets. I wasn’t allowed to have any LEGO sets because... Well honestly it was because I was a slob, I never put anything away. Super messy. Instead, I wound up with bionicles and I love them and still do, But- Point is. I loved them, Looked at all of them online, And... Look at me now. Going to college for geology. I still ogle the construction vehicles on the side of the road. I had completely forgotten about Power Miners, Honestly, But I think it really was what started my fascination with rocks.
Me realizing that I had all of the sets in the first power miners run besides one 😳 Makes sense as it was limited, but as a kid I never owned all sets to a specific release, I just begged my parents for what looked cool lol
Absolutely fantastic history, I have always loved power miners and I have always wondered about the history of those seeing them in so many sets but never enough to look into it. So thank you!
I still remember when these first came out in bright metallic silver as the hydrolator crystal from the new Aquanauts sets first seen in the mid-90s. One of the themed sets I truly wish would make a comeback.
Great video homie Ngl the second you brought up Power Miners I got hit with a massive wave of nostalgia, I loved that series as a kid. Have a wonderful day, whatever you are doing!
More than convinced I will watch you talk about anything. Something about your content is always captivating even if I'm coming in with zero knowledge on the topic
I love the new videos and variety! But its really funny to me that you've started off the last 5 videos with, "I wanted to try something different today" when its almost normal at this point
You know Big Yellow does the fucking wildest jumps in content. Fighting game video, fighting game video, pokemon video, INSANIQUARIUM, fighting game, fighting game, pokemon, LEGO.
As a life long Lego fan with a hefty collection, I collected some fun pieces every few sets and got my hands on a total of: *_0_** rock 1x1 crystal 5-points!*
13:50 there was another set from Power Miners that also had small crystals, 8956-1 Stone Chopper. That one can be excused as there was little room to fit the large crystal on the bike, however the container from the Set 8963-1 Rock Wrecker is the EXACT same container used for those crystals back when they debuted in Aquazone! Perhaps they didn't want the crystals to get accidentally stuck in there? I'm not sure.
I have nostalgia for Power Miners purely because of the Lego flash games I'd play on my dad's computer as a kid. I never understood the Power Miners game but the machines looked cool and that's all I cared about
when you said "trans-neon green", my mind went to transgender neon green instead of transparent neon green (also fantastic video as always! lego is a topic that i've always kinda been into so its cool to see people talk about it)
I played with Legos constantly as a kid and this actually was one of my favorite pieces, for exactly the same reasons you presented. Based youtuber, based content

@@_-Lx-_ I believe they are enby but
@@rachelthecool2880
Yeah, I just checked their Bio and it says "Any Pronouns", so that clears that up.
So yeah, They/He/She all apply and work.
@@_-Lx-_ just checked their channel about section to find the most succinct incredible one of all time.
“thing enjoyer | any pronouns”
@@Glory2Snowstar That's pretty close to my ideal, but i'd go even more vibrant and maybe a bit more yellow, so like ##f4fc03 or something
I like how the crystal is both natural and a treasure.
Great seeing someone as enthousiast about powerminers as some people are about rockraiders. I like how powerminers included a lot more monsters and the blue minifigs look really cool.
The Big Yellow channel is opening my eyes to how much random, turbo nerd stuff I absolutely love. Gotta be my favourite channel fr
I love to spend the night watching random people talk in an absurd amount of detail about their weird interests
i remember being mesmerised by this piece when i first got one from the mountain hut creator set, and it really is so damn cool.
And here I thought Club Penguin was gonna be the peak of this channel.
I can get infinitely sillier trust me
@@BigYellowSilly
Please do, I want to see how far you can take these wonderfully specific niche videos.
@@BigYellowSilly please do
Since this video we've got a couple of new colours!
"A really nice figure, I might have to pick one up myse-eeehhhh!"
Ah yes, one of my all-time favorites.
Y'know, I've never been much for the history of Legos.
But if you keep making them, I will definitely keep watching them.
honestly i would never have the confidence to upload a video like this to my channel with usually unrelated content but i'm glad you do cause this shit is fire. very entertaining and fun. now i wanna watch lego content
Also IIRC collecting more of this piece was the core gameplay goal in the Rock Raiders video game, which officially means it is the best video game yet made.
this is content i never knew i wanted from you
Bro I literally had a birthday cake in the shape of this piece, you're bringing back so many memories thanks lol
I've literally only owned one lego set in my life and this was still an insta-click.
I have this piece in translucent medium green, which makes it even better because it's my favorite translucent LEGO color for crystal pieces.
absolutely love your nail color, purple def needs to be a crystal color! Power miners was so good, I still have a bunch of the set pieces around here and probably got a few crystals too for sure
13:42 Hey! You are insulting my Mars Mission nostalgia! But I’ll forgive you because of the power miner coverage.
Keep it up!
"How many colors was it printed in, and how many of those colors look undeniably tasty?"
(Okay, already commented at length in the teal followup, but damn if my particular nostalgia wasn't instantly materialized by pulling Aquazone out from my figurative eyes and back in front of my actual eyes again.)
Haven't watched this but i 100% guarantee you this bouta be a banger
I love this channel, the variance in topics is so much more genuine
I'm not even into LEGO, but this is fascinating.
This is one of the biggest pleasant surprises I’ve experienced on TH-cam. Great work!
Idk how you consistently create banger content about things I know zero about but I love and respect you for it thank you very much for describing the storied history of this piece i think I used once in a legends of chima set
Glad I’m not the only one who likes these pieces.
Thank you for feeding my inner Lego nerd, Yellow. Childhood me is very happy.
you're honestly the goat for just talking about whatever the hell you want. big respect
I just wanna say that I appreciate your content. You make the most random stuff really interesting in a way no one else can.
I definitely had that exact aquazone set, some rock raiders, and probably used them as improvised chewing gum.
I love that you used Silver the Hedgehog's Instrumental theme while talking about the Silver colored version of the piece
13:23-13:43 That was actually the point; every manual for the first wave of Power Miner sets had power crystals attached to or inside of the mining equipment. The promotional videos on Lego's TH-cam Channel for the Power Miners and the comics in the Lego Magazine clearly depict why:
After mysterious earthquakes shake the Lego World, a team of engineers dig deep into the crust to discover the tremors were caused by rock monsters, who'd violently shake after they ate power crystals.
Dude...
Obscure pokémon mechanics and competitive metagame history
AND detailed information about obscure LEGO elements!
You're hitting all of my buttons. Make something about crayons, old coins, or pro wrestling and my head will explode.
Loving it!
I love all neon, glow in the dark lego pieces. I just want to live among them built to the skies just 🤤
I never imagined in my life that I would watch a 20 min video about a specific Lego piece
I mean, the first two waves of Power Miners IS the best theme to this day
Love the tons of topical jumps, so fun to always keep it fresh while still enjoying the same core - your humor, the chill vibes, the fascinating depth of some of these very niche things.
Me realizing that I had all of the sets in the first power miners run besides one 😳
Makes sense as it was limited, but as a kid I never owned all sets to a specific release, I just begged my parents for what looked cool lol
This is the unbelievably based content i subscribed for :)
There's absolutely no way to predict the next Big Yellow video topic. Even with the tweets about this lego piece, I didn't think a video was coming.
The only thing bad about this piece is that you could argue it’s situational, but still it’s awesome
Also shoutouts to Mixels I love that theme
Great video homie Ngl the second you brought up Power Miners I got hit with a massive wave of nostalgia, I loved that series as a kid. Have a wonderful day, whatever you are doing!
Ah yes, the crystal meth piece
I never understood the Power Miners game but the machines looked cool and that's all I cared about
I never thought I would cry over the discontinuation of a fricking LEGO piece.
Finally, some good content
I LOVE YOUR NAILS
when you said "trans-neon green", my mind went to transgender neon green instead of transparent neon green
(also fantastic video as always! lego is a topic that i've always kinda been into so its cool to see people talk about it)
My favorite colors are Queer Fluorescent Blue and Enby GlowInTheDark Purple.
A 20min video on a single Lego piece. You are fucking unstoppable. Every piece of content you make is a banger.
how the hell do you consistently make videos that laser focus on my interests and my interests alone
I played with Legos constantly as a kid and this actually was one of my favorite pieces, for exactly the same reasons you presented. Based youtuber, based content
