I thought each one had a different elemental property and put them all together in this big stupid long ass blaster and thought it as the "ultimate gun." Being super into Metroid Prime probably helped.

Definitely a gamer mindset look at Lego studs, and I like it. Would’ve made turning my Lego playtime into RPGs a bit more interesting. Wasn’t as fun as it sounds. It wasn’t D&D, it was essentially just having my Legos play Fire Emblem except I got to fudge all the numbers. Which kinda removed the fun.

Yep. Ironically Harry Potter is really great for all the things WB and JK are trying to wash out of it. 31:32: for your peace of mind, I should add that the bricklink alternates can be a lot of things, from borderline almost still prototype production sets, early production, late production, production errors, or inventory parsing errors by early openers (though their level of scrutiny is still very high for those, it's mostly sellers mislabeling stuff, not listers) so it means that because we don't really have production numbers/hitory on each individual box (nor are listers obligated to disclose those), alternate parts can sometimes very well mean literally one guy had those in a sealed set and documented it

When I was a kid I once went to the Lego pick a brick wall and they had the translucent red gems there. I got a literal handful of them and to this day my gem collection is overwhelmed by like 100 red ones.
In my lego subcult as a kid we had a really, really weird form of gem- we used the transparent makings of the 1x2 flat grate pieces, calling them "plasma".
This was definitely my favorite Lego piece as a kid! I always called them Chaos Emeralds, and they were always a sought-after source of power in the made up stories I'd think up. Such good memories!

I have a fun story that relates to these pieces: Back when I was a kid and collected Lego sets, I got the Erebor set from the Hobbit movies. However, I noticed from the packaging that the set lacked a very important part: The colossal pile of treasure for Smaug to sleep on. In retrospect, I understand why Lego would not want a set to include a bunch of small pieces meant to be kept loose. But kid me did some searching on the internet and found a 3rd party listing for a big pile of gold, silver, and gem pieces. My parents didn’t get it for me, both because of the previously mentioned reason and also because I vaguely remember it being ridiculously expensive.
If I had a nickel for every time recently someone use "regulated" in place of "relegated", I'd have two nickels, which isn't much, but it's weird that is happened twice in quick succession.
I always went wild over these ones. I'd always, because I was the kinda kid to make up lore for my LEGO creations, I'd always have these crystals be like this amazing power source, like basically Chaos Emeralds.

I remember seeing this piece for the first time in an Adventurers preview in the November-December 1997 LEGO Mania Club magazine. Really just a picture of Johnny Thunder holding it, but that told you everything you needed to know about the theme and was probably half the hype all on its own. For all of 1998 it was a very cool and special piece, serving as a one-of-a-kind McGuffin for the Adventurers and (to a lesser degree) Ninja, before we started getting treasure chests full of them. Always wanted to know about the different colors and uses over the years, thank you for making this video!
It really surprised me that the jewel only came in transparent colors. For some reason I remember the jewel appearing in some sort of bright silver, but maybe that’s because I played a lot of the Lego Batman video game as a kid. Edit: So I checked, apparently the jewel cat-woman was holding was trans-pink and not silver, I now doubt all of my memories.
when i was a kid i went to a lego store with my family, one of those really cool ones where they'd have the huge wall of pick n mix bricks and you could put whatever the hell bricks you wanted in there. and i was with my sister and we were both decently young kids and lets say we made some....interesting purchases. now im not relevant to this story, i only brought a bucket of 250 lego ladder pieces. but my sister, she walked over to a contain filled to the brim with the little red gem piece and scooped it full to the max. there must've been well over 500 in there. and then she proceeded to lose over 75% of them in a hotel room the following night. all this is to say great video! i'll forever remember this piece for probably fucking up some poor hotel vacuum cleaner

I was going to say that these would work well as chaos emeralds for sonic sets but there actually are sonic sets where they are the chaos emeralds and now I want that shadow bike set

the number of cool recolors locked to Lego HP genuinely makes me so sad, ESPECIALLY random stuff in Glow-In-The-Dark White
Edit: also wanted to add: the Lego Serious Play products are actually for like, weird teambuilding exercises and stuff. Like a "To help each get to know each other better, here's a bunch of random lego I guess." Wild stuff.

Lego and other toys (mainly Playmobil from what I've seen) are used in a few professional settings.

The trans-black/brown piece is so funny to me. A mysterious piece so unique it's practically one of a kind and no one knows what set it came from. It's like a terrible creepypasta waiting to happen.
And then the Trans Brown gem bled at me and put hyperealistic lego bricks all over the floor that I couldn't walk around

Thank you for awakening some deeply buried memories. Haven't really thought about legos in a long time aside from, like, some of the videogames. Never owned any gems but did have one singular crystal, until I gave away all my legos to my nephews.
31:32: for your peace of mind, I should add that the bricklink alternates can be a lot of things, from borderline almost still prototype production sets, early production, late production, production errors, or inventory parsing errors by early openers (though their level of scrutiny is still very high for those, it's mostly sellers mislabeling stuff, not listers)
so it means that because we don't really have production numbers/hitory on each individual box (nor are listers obligated to disclose those), alternate parts can sometimes very well mean literally one guy had those in a sealed set and documented it

I just finished the 3-in-1 Deep Sea Creatures and really liked how they used this piece for the anglerfish's lure!
When I was a kid I once went to the Lego pick a brick wall and they had the translucent red gems there. I got a literal handful of them and to this day my gem collection is overwhelmed by like 100 red ones.
In my lego subcult as a kid we had a really, really weird form of gem- we used the transparent makings of the 1x2 flat grate pieces, calling them "plasma".

This was definitely my favorite Lego piece as a kid! I always called them Chaos Emeralds, and they were always a sought-after source of power in the made up stories I'd think up. Such good memories!

I have a fun story that relates to these pieces:
Back when I was a kid and collected Lego sets, I got the Erebor set from the Hobbit movies. However, I noticed from the packaging that the set lacked a very important part: The colossal pile of treasure for Smaug to sleep on. In retrospect, I understand why Lego would not want a set to include a bunch of small pieces meant to be kept loose. But kid me did some searching on the internet and found a 3rd party listing for a big pile of gold, silver, and gem pieces. My parents didn’t get it for me, both because of the previously mentioned reason and also because I vaguely remember it being ridiculously expensive.

I remember seeing this piece for the first time in an Adventurers preview in the November-December 1997 LEGO Mania Club magazine. Really just a picture of Johnny Thunder holding it, but that told you everything you needed to know about the theme and was probably half the hype all on its own. For all of 1998 it was a very cool and special piece, serving as a one-of-a-kind McGuffin for the Adventurers and (to a lesser degree) Ninja, before we started getting treasure chests full of them. Always wanted to know about the different colors and uses over the years, thank you for making this video!
It really surprised me that the jewel only came in transparent colors. For some reason I remember the jewel appearing in some sort of bright silver, but maybe that’s because I played a lot of the Lego Batman video game as a kid.
Edit: So I checked, apparently the jewel cat-woman was holding was trans-pink and not silver, I now doubt all of my memories.
There were at least other crystal pieces which came in silver.
when i was a kid i went to a lego store with my family, one of those really cool ones where they'd have the huge wall of pick n mix bricks and you could put whatever the hell bricks you wanted in there. and i was with my sister and we were both decently young kids and lets say we made some....interesting purchases. now im not relevant to this story, i only brought a bucket of 250 lego ladder pieces. but my sister, she walked over to a contain filled to the brim with the little red gem piece and scooped it full to the max. there must've been well over 500 in there. and then she proceeded to lose over 75% of them in a hotel room the following night.
all this is to say great video! i'll forever remember this piece for probably fucking up some poor hotel vacuum cleaner
