There are a lot of people who prefer pre-WB Harry Potter over the movie stuff. It's also the era before all the terf stuff started happening, soooooo.... yeeeeahhh...
Yep. Ironically Harry Potter is really great for all the things WB and JK are trying to wash out of it. It was fun and whimsical, people who were struggling with any parts of their identity could find comfort in a world where those differences would be so minor that no one would mind (what's odd about someone being gay, bi, trans, or Irish when you have people turning into animals at will and flying around on broomsticks and motorbikes or being Bulgarian?), and people who were run down by the bleak mundanity of modern existence could find joy in the thought of joining this world of strangeness and wonder.

I have a fun story that relates to these pieces: Back when I was a kid and collected Lego sets, I got the Erebor set from the Hobbit movies. However, I noticed from the packaging that the set lacked a very important part: The colossal pile of treasure for Smaug to sleep on. In retrospect, I understand why Lego would not want a set to include a bunch of small pieces meant to be kept loose. But kid me did some searching on the internet and found a 3rd party listing for a big pile of gold, silver, and gem pieces. My parents didn’t get it for me, both because of the previously mentioned reason and also because I vaguely remember it being ridiculously expensive.
I remember when the neon-green gem was in a Pick-a-Brick wall when I was a kid, so I filled an ENTIRE $10 bin of that stuff. I had way more than I ever knew what to do with lol

I am 70% certain I accidentally ate a few of these pieces in light blue, I accidentally inhaled while holding a chest of them next to my mouth when I was like 7.
2009 pirate wave was what introduced this piece to me. I love this particular theme because of the vibe that it gives, and it is also the reason why I love the anime One Piece today: the earlier episodes have exactly the same vibe as this theme.

I was recommended your crystal video when it came out a few years ago and now the gem video. I love your style and sarcasm. I don’t know anything about Lego but it’s still fun to listen to someone who does explain a single piece for half an hour 🤣
I'd like to get you into D&D, I bet you'd absolutely love it. I can see it appealing to your pokemon brain with all the rules granularity and freedom of combining things for different builds. Also you get to use all that to make a silly little guy to play with.
My headcanon for why Power Miners has those boxes with crystals in them is a little complicated, but it makes sense. The LEGO cgi film Clutch Powers (Chase McCain before Chase McCain existed)starts off with Clutch hunting crystals to power LEGO City. It makes sense that mining vehicles from the series POWER MINERS would run on jewels they dug up rather than fuel or electricity, so they can stay down for weeks, months, even years at a time without going back up. They’re not miners WITH power (Even though they do be powerful), it’s because the MINE for the power. For energy. I dunno, maybe it’s just insane rambling, but that’s what I think.
I was too busy bein' distracted by An Empty Tome to realize you uttered the phrase "forbidden crystal yuri". Good music taste and good jokes here on the Big Yellow channel.
Randomly popped up, never watched you before. Clicked it so fast. Discovered you had another video made a year ago (from what you said at the start of this video). Immediately went to find and watch it first. Great stuff, keep it up!!
the delivery of the facet count had me quietly wheezing i love these videos, i never would have thought that "recent developments" in lego crystals would ever be something i'd be excited to hear about, since i have never played legos, but this is honestly so interesting
Newer watcher, started from the RBY OU videos. Jumped from the 5-point crystal video to watch this and WOW you've changed! I adore the look AND your content. Keep it up!
I remember seeing this piece for the first time in an Adventurers preview in the November-December 1997 LEGO Mania Club magazine. Really just a picture of Johnny Thunder holding it, but that told you everything you needed to know about the theme and was probably half the hype all on its own. For all of 1998 it was a very cool and special piece, serving as a one-of-a-kind McGuffin for the Adventurers and (to a lesser degree) Ninja, before we started getting treasure chests full of them. Always wanted to know about the different colors and uses over the years, thank you for making this video!
the number of cool recolors locked to Lego HP genuinely makes me so sad, ESPECIALLY random stuff in Glow-In-The-Dark White Edit: also wanted to add: the Lego Serious Play products are actually for like, weird teambuilding exercises and stuff. Like a "To help each get to know each other better, here's a bunch of random lego I guess." Wild stuff.
In my lego subcult as a kid we had a really, really weird form of gem- we used the transparent makings of the 1x2 flat grate pieces, calling them "plasma".
This was definitely my favorite Lego piece as a kid! I always called them Chaos Emeralds, and they were always a sought-after source of power in the made up stories I'd think up. Such good memories!
Thank you for awakening some deeply buried memories. Haven't really thought about legos in a long time aside from, like, some of the videogames. Never owned any gems but did have one singular crystal, until I gave away all my legos to my nephews.
Lego and Pokemon cards: two defining interests of 10 year old me where the main barrier to getting back into them as an adult is no longer having grandparents who are in charge of me 3 days a week and genuinely can't think of anything better to do with me than buy me stuff.
As a kid I was OBSESSED with piece 6254, having seen it only in catalogues from the 90s and it being away from shelves for a very long time and when it slowly got rereleased it was in some expensive sets (my moste infamous moment was me trying to make my family buy me the grand emporium because of it). I still have vivid memories of me seeing a box full of them at a Lego Con as a kid and my parents not buying me any, biggest regret was me not insisting even a little for them

I was recommended your crystal video when it came out a few years ago and now the gem video. I love your style and sarcasm. I don’t know anything about Lego but it’s still fun to listen to someone who does explain a single piece for half an hour 🤣
So what I'm learning is, if you like LEGO gems you should hope that you were really into Belville in the 90s

Okay but stim toys at a meeting is a great idea
I remember being mesmerized when i saw the red ruby piece in a catalogue. It was the egyptian adventure theme.
My minifigure accessory box never recovered from the 72 Pirate Code gems
I'd like to get you into D&D, I bet you'd absolutely love it. I can see it appealing to your pokemon brain with all the rules granularity and freedom of combining things for different builds. Also you get to use all that to make a silly little guy to play with.
Big Yellow seems like they'd be an amazing player, and make lots of great stories.
Can confirm, I love my silly little guys and my DMs have been awesome
I'm mind blown jealous at their hair it's so amazing ×-× also the vids are cool too :)
You should make a video on Belville. The disdain you have spills into your voice every time you say Belville, and I need more of that. 😂
THE SUPER MONKEY BALL SHIRT GOES HARD
Randomly popped up, never watched you before. Clicked it so fast. Discovered you had another video made a year ago (from what you said at the start of this video). Immediately went to find and watch it first.
Great stuff, keep it up!!
the delivery of the facet count had me quietly wheezing
i love these videos, i never would have thought that "recent developments" in lego crystals would ever be something i'd be excited to hear about, since i have never played legos, but this is honestly so interesting
I fucking lost it at the spider-trike segment tell done
“Forbidden crystal yuri”
hokusei no kuni mentioned!!!!!!
Newer watcher, started from the RBY OU videos. Jumped from the 5-point crystal video to watch this and WOW you've changed! I adore the look AND your content. Keep it up!
Forbidden Crystal Yuri is the content I live for from this channel.
22:16 I'm proud that as a boy I owned the Diagon Alley set as a kid and didn't think twice about it being for girls.
Always wanted to know about the different colors and uses over the years, thank you for making this video!
the number of cool recolors locked to Lego HP genuinely makes me so sad, ESPECIALLY random stuff in Glow-In-The-Dark White
Edit: also wanted to add: the Lego Serious Play products are actually for like, weird teambuilding exercises and stuff. Like a "To help each get to know each other better, here's a bunch of random lego I guess." Wild stuff.

@@boxfoxscoot1614 Haha, thanks man. It's actually a photo I took of my old HG Sazabi, punched up a bit in photoshop. I'm glad so many people like it!

Lego and other toys (mainly Playmobil from what I've seen) are used in a few professional settings.
In my lego subcult as a kid we had a really, really weird form of gem- we used the transparent makings of the 1x2 flat grate pieces, calling them "plasma".
Another certified banger about a topic I know next to nothing about but think is still interesting nonetheless
This was definitely my favorite Lego piece as a kid! I always called them Chaos Emeralds, and they were always a sought-after source of power in the made up stories I'd think up. Such good memories!
The back pack that opens up from Adventurers will forever be my favorite piece
I never had any of the sets but that piece in particular is so fire
Thank you for awakening some deeply buried memories. Haven't really thought about legos in a long time aside from, like, some of the videogames. Never owned any gems but did have one singular crystal, until I gave away all my legos to my nephews.
Days a good day when the monarch big yellow posts!!!
