Pope Benedict's Reflections on the Our Father in his book "Jesus of Nazareth". Summary by Father Seán Heaney, P.P.
Pope Benedict has recently published a book entitled Jesus of Nazareth, where he relates Jesus Christ to our own times, and outlines how he thinks we should understand his presence in our lives.
This is a work on which the Pope has laboured over many years before he became Pope, and he now has published his first volume of what is intended to be a larger work.
This volume covers the public ministry of Jesus from the Baptism in the Jordan to the Transfiguration. His intention is to deal in later volumes with the Infancy of Jesus, and His Passion Death and Resurrection. In his first Volume he covers many of the miracles of Jesus, many of his sermons and his prayer. Central to his prayer was the Our Father, and it is on this universal prayer that we will focus in the coming weeks, hoping to the best of our ability to reflect the thoughts of the Holy Father.
In introducing this treatise on the Lord’s Prayer the Pope Benedict has interesting reflection on the nature of prayer. St. Matthew introduces the Lord’s Prayer with a few warnings against false forms of prayer. Firstly it must not be an occasion for showing off before others. Rather prayer must have a discretion that is essential to the nature of love. We must be aware of God’s personal love for each of us, but also realise that there is a community aspect to prayer. This is the very reason why the Lord’s Prayer uses the plural “we” or “us” throughout. The second false from of prayer is the “chatter, the verbiage, that smothers the spirit.”
Our relationship with God should not be momentary asking or thanksgiving, but should “be present as the bedrock of our souls” Prayer really is being in silent inward communion with God. In the mind of the Pope, everything that happens in our lives should be related to the permanent presence of God with us.
The Our Father is always a prayer of Jesus, and communion with him is what opens up this prayer for us.. We pray to the Father in heaven whom we know through his Son. And that means that Jesus is always in the background during the petitions, as we will see more clearly as we go through the petitions in the weeks ahead.

In his reflection on the Our Father Pope Benedict begins with a quotation which says: “The Our Father begins with a great consolation: we are allowed to say “Father”. This one word contains the whole history of redemption. We are allowed to say “Father” because the Son was our brother and has revealed the Father to us; because, thanks to what Christ has done, we have become once more the children of God.
The problem for very many people today is that their experience of fatherhood is in many cases either completely absent or obscured by inadequate examples of fatherhood. We must therefore allow Jesus to teach us what father really means. For Jesus, father is the source of all good, the measure of perfection of all people. “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good” The love that the father has for us and endures to the end. Christ fulfilled that love on the Cross by praying for his enemies. We call God “father” because he is the source of all love, and in the Lord’s Prayer Jesus invites us to become children of this all-loving Father.
We should reflect on the parts of the New Testament where Jesus elaborates on the Fathers love and generosity. “If you, then, who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” “If you then, who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!'” The gift that God gives us is the gift of himself, and this means that prayer is really a recognition of this truth. God’s gift of himself to us is the “one thing necessary”. Prayer is a way of gradually purifying and correcting our wishes and of slowly coming to realise what we really need: God and his Spirit.

Indeed, Grace is not an abstract term! It means The protection He provides to His children, when we turn to Him, when we are hungry for His teachings, through His perfect Word, through His Spirit, through our praise.
I do believe, Abba Fatherwill restore His pure language. The one that was spoken before the confusion. However, that's me. I respect each one's space.

However I would never say Greek, they spoke Hebrew Armaic, they were Hebrews, the Scriptures were written in their language, the language they spoke, of course the first part, the teaching and the prophecy, which you call "old". @@theguyver4934 First 300 years of Christianity, there was no Bible as we know it today. Christians had the Old testament Septuagint, and literally hundreds of other books from which to choose. The Catholic Church realized early which books were inspired and which ones weren't.
Christians accepted the same canon for the Old Testament almost 1500 years.
The story had a dramatic change when there was no place for other religions in expansion plans of Muslim Leaders.

@@goodomen5801 You got it mixed up. Syriac/Aramaic is a language that has nothing to do with the country of Syria. It's more like the indigenous language of Iraq. But some of it is spoken also in Iran, Syria and Lebanon. The language is spoken by Assyrians, an ancient people (who I belong to).

Philip Arvanitidis - Historians agree that Aramaic was the native language of Israel during the time of Jesus. Josephus constantly referred to Aramaic as “the language of our country” & explained that he had to translate his works to Greek for non natives. Scholars agree that Aramaic was the lingua Franca in the Middle East before Jesus, during his life & hundreds of years after his death.

Jesus spoke Aramaic, but likely knew Hebrew, and likely knew bits of Greek as it was the language of commerce throughout the Roman Empire (Latin really wasn’t spoken that much at all outside of Rome). Aramaic became the most popular language during the time Babylonian empire. It was also a Semitic language very close to Hebrew. And Jesus’ name was Yesu (Aramaic) or Yeshua (Hebrew).

Paul was believing like you, in just God, the Father (as the law says - the Old Testament) and even persecuted Christians who believed in Jesus Christ - the Son of God. But, Jesus Christ, showed Himself to Paul and He lightened his mind and heart to understand that Christ is the Son of God. From that moment Paul was enlightened and accepted the will of God and believed in His Son - Jesus Christ. He became a Christian (from religious fanaticism has reached Christianity and kindness, through Jesus Christ, the true Son of God, what has been preached even from the Old Testament time).
Paul said: " I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the Gospel I preached is not of human origin. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ." (Galatians 1:11,12)
Paul added: "Paul, an apostle-sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead" (Galatians 1:1)
So, the apostles spoke led by God through Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit.
Everything what Gospels contain is true because is the Word of God sent through Jesus Christ to us.
In the Old Testament, God, the Father did not reveal in details that He has a Son. When the time came, God sent His Son on earth to make forgiveness and the salvation possible.
Probably you know how people from the Old Testament asked for forgiveness. Scarifying a sheep, their sins were forgiven. Have you wondered why God, the Father, has established this ritual for the forgiveness of sins? This ritual of sacrificing a sheep symbolized Christ and His sacrifice. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, all humans have the possibility to be forgiven and saved. Every single ritual from the Old Testament was symbolizing Christ, the Son of God and His sacrifice. The purpose of the Old Testament and its rituals was to prepare us for Jesus Christ.
That's why Jesus Christ said: "I'm the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Through Jesus Christ, God, the Father is looking at us with love and justification. This gift of God is valid only for those who want to be forgiven and saved. Through Jesus Christ we have a free road to God, the gates are opened.
Jesus Christ is God and the Son of God, the Father.

This prayer is the most important prayer in Christianity with different versions . But no matter what language.God hears our prayers and loves us all . That's the beauty of Christianity. this is a beautiful song in Aramaic as well and extremely calming to hear .

(6) 2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV [10] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
In order to get saved, repentance of one’s sin is needed to get saved, we need to be sorry, and repent, with conviction, that we are a wretched sinner.
(7) Romans 10:9 KJV [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
If you truly do believe in everything you have heard in the gospel, ,I strongly suggest you to make a proclamation to GOD! You can say it to God in less than 15 seconds !Repeat after this simple prayer, to make sure you truly get saved. Remember repeating this prayer doesn't save you, it's you telling God you BELIEVE THE GOSPEL. Ok, here is the prayer :
‘Dear GOD,
I know I am a sinner, as I repent, I put my faith, that Jesus is GOD, and that he died, buried and resurrected, so that his blood, can wash away my Sins. I put my faith in that alone to save me, not my good works. In Jesus’s holy name, I pray. Amen!
