Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Yes, you need to give evidence of knowing basic Portuguese when applying to Permanent Residency or Citizenship. But you do NOT need that for temporary residency (which would be the D7, D8, D2, D3 visas, etc.) Cheers, Mariano.
