Thank you. I was hoping you would provide prices for purchase, not just rentals.
My last comment has seemed to age interestingly since there was an earthquake 19 days after I had that dream part of Portugal went into the ocean and in my dream someone caused it to happen.
I am a psychic, and recently, I had a dream that the Portugal southern part broke off and went into the ocean, and the ocean was boiling with loads of lava. Also, in my dream, this issue was caused by man. The most concerning part about this dream is I am American and don't know really anything about the geography of Portugal. What's upsetting to me is how factually correct it was. Before I had this dream and came here to learn about it and looked it up, I didn't know about the tectonic plates... how they ran, etc. Santo Antonio area south is what went into the ocean. But no idea what part it was till I looked it up after the dream.
As Portuguese Portugal Im going to Lisboa In 2 months on 15 July staying there till September! 😮😅❤
the prices are not correct, the rental prices are much higher.
Hi there! Unfortunately it is true that prices are on the rise, back at the time of the video I can confirm they were lower. Feel free to reach out if you’re looking for a place to rent. Cheers, Mariano.

If someone get visit visa then he can get citizenship or which person we can meet for my papper work please guide me or make video clip
Hi Hamdan! So, to live in Portugal you will need a Residency Visa, which is not linked to a “Visit/Tourist Visa” you may have. To get a Residency Visa you would need to see under which scenario you can qualify (i.e. do you have a work offer in Portugal, do you want to come to get a job here, do you have a passive income to sustain you, are you a digital nomad, an investor, etc) and apply for residency in the local Portuguese consulate/embassy of the country where you live. There’s also another process called “manifestação de interesse” where you can enter Portugal as a tourist and thereafter transition to a residency visa, but this is a burdensome process that could take 2 years just waiting for your residency permit. Having the residency you can legally live in Portugal and after 5 years of living here you can apply for Portuguese citizenship. Hope it helps! Cheers, Mariano.

Our expenditure is around €100 per week for both of us - We live just south of Lisbon in Setubal. We are close to Continente, Lidl and Auchan. We also get regular discounts on our Continente card, which can be as much as 10%.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing that, it definitely makes perfect sense. Aren’t discount cards here great!? 🤩😂

And... what about the ARTS?! Not everyone moving to Portugal is just a "Consumer"!
Hi Mark! Thanks for your comment. Maybe that should have been another category as well, though I would say is still partially included within the “Culture & Vibe” point. Cheers, Mariano.
Porto's metropolitan area has actually 1.7 million inhabitants. Greater Porto, which was a former statistical unit comprehending the core municipalities of the meteopolitan area, has 1.3 million inhabitants.
Hi Pedro! Thanks for sharing that. Will keep that in mind for next Porto videos 🙂
???? Just a long tourist selfie here!
😂
Far too many tourists! Palacio Hotel and the casino is in Estoril, not Cascais.
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Please note that Cascais is both a city and a council. In the video I say that the hotel is within the Cascais council, of which Estoril is part of. Cheers, Mariano.
I'm going to Porto Portugal in September I'm very excited i can't wait
Hey there! Glad to hear you’re going to Porto! Truly an amazing city with plenty of things to do, eat and see 🙂
What do you know about sharks around Portugal? Given the amount of coastal waters I guess they are plentiful but any around the beaches of notice? Reality is that is their world and they are everywhere of course but some places are more of a “hot spot” than others. For example 33% of the unprovoked shark attacks happen along the coasts in Florida USA. It’s still a popular tourist destination for the beaches. Fun in the sun is hard to beat!
Hey Entrophy! Thanks for your comments 🙂. I’ve read some articles about it and although there are sharks on the coast, there are no reported shark attacks for Portugal and seems that most species live in deep waters on the Atlantic and are rarely seen on near the coast. That said, there were sharks spotted from north to south of the country, where the Açores Islands seem to have the highest shark density. I found this article about the topic quite interesting www.theportugalnews.com/news/2023-05-28/are-there-sharks-in-portuguese-waters/77960 Hope it helps! 🤗 Cheers, Mariano.
Quite informative and such a relief that an earthquake like the the one in mid of XVIII century is unlikely to be reapeated any time soon. Keep up the great work Mariano
Wow! Very informative. Nicely done ❤😊
Good video and interesting insights. I completely agree with you about the trashy graffiti: it is a huge eyesore and makes otherwise beautiful areas look degraded. I say: 500E fine and 100 hours of community work cleaning up graffiti for anyone caught, no exceptions. Seems harsh? Well anyone caught is likely to have done at least that much damage that other people have to clean up, maybe multiple times more. Street art (presumably authorized, given the time it takes to create actual murals, not just scribbles) is another matter and can have the exact opposite effect of vandalistic graffiti: beautifying and uplifting an area instead of making it more ugly and degraded.
Hi Tony! Thanks for your comment. Absolutely agree with you, I’m pretty sure that could be a good way to create incentives against graffitis. Cheers, Mariano.
Architect here, you can't compare the 2 cities architecture. Barcelona is easily the most art and architecture-rich city I've ever visited
Hi Ryan! Thanks for your comment. It’s very interesting to hear your perspective as an architect. Maybe you’re right and that point should have been awarded to Barcelona, what I valued as well is how Lisbon preserved much older buildings than the ones in Barcelona. Cheers, Mariano.
Just a great place. People are relaxed and helpful. Too much history. Never boring. Food and wine, some of the best. I started staying 3 months a year now. Very happy.
Hey Bruce! Thanks for your comment. Glad to see you are enjoying Portugal few months every year! Sounds like a perfect way to be discovering the country without the need of making the full move. Cheers, Mariano.
I live in Lisbon and Algarve for 15 years ! All you marketing people tell the same (stupid lies) ! Why the Portuguese food is always celebrated ?? It has no variety, mostly overcooked, without taste and it is unhaelthy ! If you eat fish, cakes and wine, what you are presenting, soon you will have health problems ! Italy, Spain, France etc. have the same beautiful landscapes and maybe a better climate !
This list is a bit misleading because people who are thinking about settling outside of the main cities won't find any Auchan or Supercor, they'll find lots of Modelos, Aldis or Intermarchés (besides the Lidls and Pingo Doces), which weren't mentioned in the video. Maybe the video title should refer only Lisbon's Metropolitan Area and not the whole country.
Hey there! Thanks for your comment. Well noted, it is true that SuperCor’s aren’t that available outside of bigger cities, but I would say there are as many Auchans than Intermarchés across the country. Please also consider that when I talk about “Continente” that would include the Contienente Modelo as well. If we think by number of stores I think that just Pingo Doce, Continente and LidL will have like 75% of the market 😂. Cheers, Mariano.
@@MarianoPoggiParcellier - Pingo Doce has more than 470 stores in Portugal, Lidl has over 270, Intermarché has over 260, Aldi has over 130, Auchan only has 34.
Fair enough about Auchan! I take that, but come on, the most common places in tue country are for sure Pingo Doce, Continente and Lidl. Cheers, Mariano.
Braga beautiful city and plenty history. I literally live 300 meters away of an Roman baths (found by archeologists and open to visit), which is very close to one of the most important building, "Sé Catedral de Braga". Please consider to visit places around "Minho e Trás-os-Montes". Of course, the whole country is beautiful, but i know more about the northern part (For example you must visit Gerês, Vieira do Minho, Mondim de Bastos,Macedo Cavaleiros, Vila Real, Bragança... I can't name it all, everything is amazing). We surely have a lot of history. Did you know Castelo de Bragança has a shape of a "hearth"? ♥ Portugal is a small country, but yet a lot to visit explore Thanks for the videos
Hi Joao! Thanks for sharing that. Totally agree, Portugal is such a wonderful country with amazing things to discover! 🫶 Looking forward to visit some of the marvels you pointed soon! 🤩 Cheers, Mariano.
portuguese meat is pretty good? that is not enough to describe. for example: have you ever tasted a real "Posta Mirandesa"? but not that meat you buy at local supermarket/hipermarket. You need to go to "Trás-os-Montes", local restaurants there (or even better, ask local people if they sell their meat). And if you go to Bragança, there is a restaurant called Abel. You should try, but you might have to wait 2 hours or so because that restaurant is popular, still "cheap". Dishes without garlic? Jebus, we Portuguese seem the only people that know how to eat (not offending anyone, just a joke ;D)
Hi Joao! Thanks for your comment. Hahah I definetely have to try that! Cheers, Mariano.
you talk about disability... your background music is really irritating and not very hard of hearing friendly....
Hi Theresa, thanks for your comment. Well noted on the music! Cheers, Mariano.
The Spanish only had us for 60 years. Not 100. Also, best pastéis de nata are in Manteigaria. They have won awards for it. Spot on for the rest of it
Nice , keep it up 💯👍👍
Thanks Mariano!
Only the last one is "mmmmh", the big growth came after a big big drop
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Yeah, that is also very true! The good thing is that Portugal seems to be one of the few EU countries that is likely to have much room to keep growing in the next years. Cheers, Mariano.
@@MarianoPoggiParcellier depends in who is running the country, not with this gov. We are getting so behind in relation to other countries... So yes, we are so behind that we have more space to grow than others 😂 only economically speaking, it's still an amazing country for sure, I've travelled a lot and I can't find a better place for me.
The apartments prices are right, they are more expensive than he saying!
Hi Maria! Thanks for your comment. The numbers are based on public property listings published on the site Idealista two months ago (when filming the video). Certainly you can find both cheaper or pricier options depending on where you look at. Cheers, Mariano.
Expat? Immigrant!
Hi Jose! Expat or Immigrant, whatever you like better 😂, I’m proud to have migrated back to the land of my ancestors. Cheers, Mariano.
Nice vidéo and the comparison between a country’s second city and the capital of another country. I guess Barcelona is really a very important and cosmopolitan city to the ideas of foreigners despite not being the capital of Spain.
My wife and I are currently spending the summer in Portugal to explore and see if it might be a good place to move to from the US, and your channel has been very useful. Good job! One thing we've been having a very hard time locating in supermarkets is chicken stock/broth. Is that not a thing in Portugal? We took a side trip to Seville, and they have lots of different kinds,, and very cheap. Seems strange there would be none in Portugal, especially since this is a very useful cooking item. I've only seen it once , I think it was an Auchan in lisbon, but way overpriced, around 3 euro for 250ml.
Hi James! Thank you for your comment! Very happy to hear you find the content useful.🙂 About the chicken broth/ caldo de galinha that is very true! 😅 the most common thing here is to get small dehydrated cubes with the flavour and then mix them with water. You can find the Knorr branded ones in every supermarket for around €1-1,50. If you’re looking for the liquid broth, you can find that in the supermarket (SuperCor) of El Corte Ingles for around €1,50 for 1 liter. Hope this helps! Cheers, Mariano.
@@MarianoPoggiParcellierThanks for the suggestions. Yes, I'm looking for the liquid. Supercor is the one place I haven't looked! I'll take a look when I reach Porto later this month.
Graffiti is street art. Just saying.
Hey Allison! I agree with murals and nice graffitis, just not with tagging or drawing crap. Cheers, Mariano.
Dude you come from Argentina the world capital of bankruptcy thing's are way worse then everything you said
Hey Antonio! Thanks for your comment. Well, I’d say in the video there are more positive shocks than negative ones. I certainly think the positives in Portugal are way better than the few cons. About Argentina, yes, sadly corruption has created much decadence (and tons of inflation), but keep in mind that regardless of that, the country remains one of the richest nations in Latin America and Buenos Aires has some of the highest living standards and safety rates in all the continent, even beating most US and Canadian cities. Cheers, Mariano.
Hey there! Thanks for your comment. Cheers as a fellow Argentinian, born and raised in Buenos Aires. 😀 To further explain myself, I believe Portugal is an amazing country with some of the best quality of life in Europe (if not the world), and that is the reason I choose to live here. Certainly metrics in Argentina are worse than Portugal and probably all of Europe, but my point is that Argentina is not a hellhole, nor the worst place to live. Of course safety is a big problem, inflation, corruption and so on, but after living abroad you also get another perspective on what is awful and not so awful about a country. Saludos, Mariano.
To get permanent residence do i required to pass a A2 language proficiency test
Hi there! Thanks for your comment. Yes, you need to give evidence of knowing basic Portuguese when applying to Permanent Residency or Citizenship. But you do NOT need that for temporary residency (which would be the D7, D8, D2, D3 visas, etc.) Cheers, Mariano.
