I put four of the Michelin equivalents on my 3.0v6 and they improved the ride and made the car safer in bad weather. I managed to keep up with my friends 4x4 in ice and snow - a good investment. When you look at the value of an old luxury car, the costs seem high, but look at what else that money would get. People lose more in depreciation on an average EV than I spend in a year, and I have a Jaaag that still does 0-60 in about 8 seconds and can top 150mph if you’re feeling brave.

Very good video once again mate! I can only agree with you, new tyres can make a huge difference in the handling of a car. I bought a VW T4 2.5 TDI a few years ago (love i by the way, it now has 485000 km on the clock, and that pump-injector engine runs like on the first day). It had 20 year old tyres on it that no longer provided any lateral support, that's how out worn they were. With new tyres, the steering became really precise again, even in a bulky car like the T4.

Joel, this video was very timely. My 2010 Xf (340bhp) flew through its MoT test a few days ago, but the mechanic pulled me to one side to have a look at the inside of the Pirell tyres. Basically they were all radially cracking and perishing, despite showing 6mm of tread, with blobs of rubber coming off. When we looked at the date stamp, they were 2016 (never mind 2008). So always check the date stamp - expensive lesson!

A good set of tyres can transform a car, so a definite worthwhile upgrade.
As you're car is knocking more from the front that can only be due to the new tyres having a stiffer sidewall, or having too much air pressure in them. Be worth checking what PSI the tyre fitters have put in, if you haven't already. In my experience they often way over inflate on fitting.

For reason to do with the polymers used, tyres now age much quicker, specifically they become much harder (so less grip and noisier) in cold weather. Really need changing every 5 years and as you’ve discovered the difference is huge.

Great advice. Just about to change my 5 year old Hankook tyres on a Hyundai Tucson. They have plenty of tread but have become very noisy, especially from the rear. Minor cracks formed between the treads. Going to fit Pirelli's shortly. I'm hoping for a big improvement in noise levels.

Hi Joel. New rubber all around is good. In my experience over the years. Even after MOT. The steering feels lighter
(for a time). Because all 4 wheels have dropped through "Gravity" when on the garage lift. It gets a little tighter after road use.
See you in the next one. 👍👍

I have 2 pairs of oldish Goodyear Vectors on my old Bravo… the rears are very old Gen 1s and the front ones are Vector 2s… they do inspire confidence. Just had a great long run in them today…. It’s cold damp greasy conditions where they do give you a big safety margin.

Hi Joel, Love your journey in your Jag. I am also a fan of the 2000 era Jags. My goal would be to buy a 2004 onwards 2.2 diesel with a manual box, I have seen several with 70k ish for around 2.5k to 3k. These seem to be in very well loved condition, I am sure they have been garaged, so a good chance of so rust along the sills. These prices are from dealers forecourts so private sales may be less. I am visiting the UK 18 April, to 6May, I hope the weather will be good lol. Take care, so happy you have great tyres. Tony. Don't be suckered by the cheap sets you can buy on fleabay, find out which ones Jag used when new and try and get them, or better. I've used lemforder, febi bilstein and meyle on my old e39 5 series, see if they make stuff for Jags. Anti-roll bar bushes are a relatively cheap and easy fix too you could do yourself, try powerflex blue poly bushes. I'd also say a 4 wheel alignment on a Hunter machine is essential after all this. Keep going Joel, you'll probably never get back what you're putting into her now, but I think you've realised that's not the point...

Quality rubber really does transform a car! When you said the S type isn't the most dynamic, I'd agree but to a point. I remember chasing down an audi A8 in my 3.0 S type and it doing well to keep up!
As a side note your steering wheel airbag leather looks very dry. On my S type it needed feeding with gliptone conditioner every so often to help the dry leather soak up ghr goodness! Yours looks near enough exactly how mine did till I fed it, hope that helps!

Gotta be kidding me. We got the same car. Mines newer but I also have tge vector 4 seasons gen 3 and they are stunningly good in all conditions. Drove through 8 inches of snow like it was nothing. Studded tires give more ice security but the feedback is very good so you always know how quick or not to drive. I’ve got the 235 though. And for track times the eagle F1 asymmetric is about 1% faster according to tyre reviews. So a real performance tyre in summer also. No slouch. Fits the S type personality well.

Good story Joel, however my older Astra 2.2 convertible I basically just get part worn Practical to gain MOT but rubbish otherwise.
Last week My (February) MOT failed on tyre and suspension top bush or something.
I went to part worn tyre guy, id love to name and shame but where's the point I wont ever use them again.
The MOT station I took car to was doing the one repair but I noticed they had the back wheel off They said they was changing the tyre. WTF like I said I had part worn put on they showed me the tyre and it wasn't very impressive it looked like a gash in the tyre tread £40 quid What a waste. The part warned tyre guy took tyre and never gave me any cash back, Bound to gain another £40 out of the tyre to someone clueless. So my Astra MOT In total cost me £240.
While on subject of tyres I went (NATIONAL TYRES) for my Audi A6 2.7 TDI they had special offer on (buy 4 Tyres pay first one on fitting) and then rest over 3 months interest free, I get sucked off with garages sucking me off for Wheel Alignment and not bothering to do the job. But to add further insult, When my car went for a service at a garage it had originally been to before my ownership the garage guy noticed cracking in the tyre tread..? how many tyres I am not sure. but my rear driver side tyre loses air fairly regular and just before Christmas 2022 I had a puncture on my front passenger which cost me a new budget type tyre £73 to say angry it don't come close.
I thought buying 4 reasonable Avon Brand tires would last my car within my ownership.. Yeah right NO..grrrrrr.
So I now have 3 Avon and one budget. I was told the weight of the car and the engine size will wear most tyres out in around 12.000 miles.
Yet My old 14 plate transit van is still on the same front tyres when I purchased it. the rears I have changed but fronts have done well I think at around 42.000 miles perhaps more because I don't really know when the original tyres on van (at time of purchase) had been put on.
So I trying to workout how much longer I want to keep my Audi and decide my best option for a set of 4 tyres in near future.
Good luck with your wedding car Joel

Beware the sunroof module with a poor battery!!. Don't use it until you have replaced. Anti roll bushes and ball joints are worth changing if the original are still there. There should not be any knocking anywhere.
Not the easiest first spanner job for DIY on the driveway, lots of content on the work so you can decide if either is for you to try.
Front brake caliper brackets are the worst design on this model for disc removal. One of the bolts is inside the strut with limited clearance.
My S type 4.0 now has slotted/drilled with EBC pads.
So far only tyre fitting and wheel balance and Aircon recharge is the only work I've had done at a garage. It's not cost effective to get kitted out for it for DIY.

You can definitely notice it. I had a Merc C270CDi many years ago. As soo. As the tyres started wearing down to 50% you'd know. Even pulling out of a road going left or right the tyres would spin and the traction light would come on under normal throttle. Floor it ar the lights and you'd get wheelspin. They were Scorpions but had the same with Contis too on my XC90.
I'm not a hard sports driver but even in ordinary driving I can tell when the tyres have gone way past their best. Very noticeable.
