Lectures give the FACTS, but tutorials blaze with INSIGHTS allowing pennies to drop and eyes to open wide (as opposed to closing during formal lectures)............... and he is a brilliant exponent of this Cambridge phenomenon. I can imagine Sir John Betjeman revising his poetry now that David has burst back on the scene like a Phoenix from the ashes of wokedom..... because insight breeds inspiration when David performs

I think Dr Starkey touched on it briefly but it cannot be overstated how much of Edward VIII's abdication was driven by the British Elite. Edward was phenomenally popular with the British public and I recall he received many thousands of letters of correspondence from all walks off life sympathising with him and the imposition that had been placed upon him by this Elite. I also agree with Dr Starkey that his links with Nazi Germany have also been vastly overstated. With the power of hindsight it was used as a baton to beat him and yet we all forget the economic miracle that happened in Germany between 1933-1939. Hitler won Time's "Man of the Year" award for a reason and was no more of an obvious despot than Joseph Stalin was.

I can only echo the comments of the other folk here who have expressed it better than myself ... brilliant stuff ... interesting, engrossing, factual, knowledgeable and delivered as if you're just sitting in my front room, coffee and biscuits in hand. Marvellous!

These are worth watching and subscribing to just for the intro, with the raised eyebrows. He's giving Ed Dutton a run for his money here. There ought to be a TH-cam Intro Oscars.

Dr Starkey, could you please do a video on the English Civil War/War of the Three Kingdoms period and explain why we in England (I don't know about the other countries) seem to almost jump from "The Tudors" to the "Industrial Revolution and the Victorians", whilst skipping that entire 150-200 year period? So much happened in that period, just as interesting as both what came before and after, yet it seems scrubbed from our national psyche. The Civil War, the Restoration, the beginnings of real empire, the Glorious Revolution, the Jacobites, the Anglo-Dutch wars, the beginning of the Hanoverian Kings... the founding of the United Kingdom for God's sake! Why is it the bits before and after are part of the national psyche but not the bit in the middle???

Thank you David, I can’t wait for the next instalment! I really like this informative, rather rambly (in a good way!) format.

I have seen a number of comments relating to the 'addictive' nature of Dr David Starkey's talks. For me the key (apart from the obvious superb content) to achieving this is his sublime delivery mechanism (voice). My wife also agrees.
