Great video.... I always loved the look of the stormtroopers from 'Empire'....I honestly never knew they were any different... I just assumed that it was because 'Empire' was my favourite film. The black frown looks so much better 👍
I’m a bit late to the party, but the one other difference you were talking about (I’m assuming) is that the holster was moved from the left to the right, and was given loops instead of being riveted to the belt itself. Thanks for another amazing video!
I just recently got my first set of the armor to build. I was just going to do an ANH build, but after watching this I'm thinking I'll be going the ESB route. And you can bet that I'll be using your videos as a guide. Thanks for the great work, trooper!
Thanks for making this comparison video! Many 501st purists will go for the ANH version but I personally think the ESB version is a more polished costume. Subbed!
My favourite stormtrooper is the rogue one stormtrooper because I have the black series helmets. I know that isn’t accurate is some areas. But I like it because it is completely symmetrical and the blue lines are indented into it and all the lines are really clean. But is still love the original trilogy ones.
What I did with my armor is I secured the straps to the back, and Velcro on the front. When the straps are aligned right, you cannot tell. My suit is based off a CGI model, so I have plenty of leeway, but getting the range of motion down was tricky. Had to go with a lot of flex in the shoulder bell straps to get that.
Mr Richie, I've heard... the eye sockets had black film and were widened? the holster was a different colour? the E11had other greebles? ...and there was a hidden storage in the ammo packs with a card pass, so the TK's could use Cloud Cities amusement arcade.
😂😂😂 Check out the other comments 😁 The eyes on most of the ESB troopers did seem to be fully trimmed, i.e. no droopy eyes, so you're onto something there, but I don't know if we know whether they were redone for ESB or whether they just picked the "best" ones. I'll have to look into that again ... 🤔
Ha! Hi Phil! Fancy seeing you here! 😁 I'm neglecting the channel a bit but will hopefully have a new build and review of a new suit soon. Thanks for the feedback. All the best to Deana.
Original 1977 stormtrooper for me. I don't like the clam shell design as much on ESB, and ROTJ versions. Plus the 1977 version is what I fell in love with as a kid. Oh the other difference.... Was it the holster from left to right side?
The ESB suits (especially the handgaurds and helmets) are better for durability and design HOWEVER: the history and hand made look, hand painted details of the ANH are so unique and I think are much cooler for that reason.
While I disagree almost entirely, I can definitely see why someone would have a preference of the ESB. Personally, I like the handmade aspect of the hand painted helmets. It feels much more unique, like an art piece. I prefer the gray frown, mainly for nostalgic reasons. I think part of #5 depends on whether you're assembling It yourself or it's painted by someone else. I ordered from RS and the fact that they do everything, including the painting and weathering, makes ANH ultimately my personal preference.
I've had terrible time getting armour to fit . Finally got the XL version from the star wars shop in North London with the Extra add on pieces to get a decent fit . Do you rate the ones from the shop or is there anything else out there for me . I've got to still attach pop fasteners and flat elastic to keep it all together. I spoke with the shop before the purchase and being a bodybuilder they are very helpful with advice
Hi Richie, another great video. It would be be great if you could do a video on the 6th episode as well. Also, can you do a video of your thoughts and opinion on the rogue one armour and the storm troopers in Mandalorian . Cheers 🙏🏼👍🏼.
Awww maan. I was just planning on a ANH version. 😁 But i agree with all of your opinions. That shoulder bridge. You are right. Its unthinkable for Imperial troops to have what looks like those plastic ties on their shoulders. Also thank you again for the very valuable advice about which sellers are reliable. Based upon that i’m going with Troopermaster. Now i just have to tell him i want to change to the ESB version.
Don't let my video change your mind. Most people prefer ANH. The one serious point in the video is that it's a bit easier to build an ESB version. Go with what you like best though.
Richie Stormtrooper I was actually leaning towards ESB all along but after a bit of query from TM’s Paul i was not so sure and chose ANH cos like you said most seem to prefer ANH. But boy he sure is passionate about his craft even extolling the virtues of using the strap system like that used in the film. This is the first time i’m really paying close attention to the 2 variations of the helmet. Now i just can’t get that image of the ANH helmet with its ‘big teeth’ (thats what it remind me of) out of my mind. So ESB is my choice. 😁
Empire is best with the MK2 strapping system being so much better(I thought they had Velcro in 1976?). I never liked the Jedi version because the helmet was too squashed when they recast it (and those shoulder bells!), but that one is still better then the ones in Rouge One which are ruined by being symmetric.
Ok your obviously into the Troop as I. I'd like to purchase head to toe version of the authentico ya know. Can you direct us / me as to such a source force ha! All me best, H.L.
The ROTJ Stormtroopers look like Empire was on a budget. It seems that Death Star 2 took more credits than Emperor expected, so they had to cut some corners.

You won't regret subbing to Richie.
I am a Newbie to 501st. I chose ESB.

Cool! Whatever floats your landspeeder! 😁
Think I like the Empire strikes back version. I like the helmet better plus I like the cloth gloves. Great video, very helpful.

I still prefer th A.N.H ..but yeah E.S.B has its merits and your points are valid too.
Don't tell anyone but secretly I like both. But "5 reasons why I have no real preference about TKs" would've been weird
😉
Well done Richie. Empire is my favorite SW film too
I prefer ANH love the original used beaten up look.
Love these insights!!! Love ‘em!
Left Episode 4, right 5. The frown of the ESB-Trooper is darker than the ANH.
That´s the first thing that everyone should notice.
Instablaster.

I'm partial to the Star Wars version. Empire rocks too.
Did anyone mention how the ESB holster is on the right side? As someone right handed to me that’s a plus

You convinced me 😊
ESB: Looped holster, worn on the right hand side. (Unlike ANH holster, fixed on the left hand side, no loops). :-)
Good man! There's no prize. Just a ❤️ and a virtual pat on the back! 😉
Seriously, thanks for watching and getting all through the video 👍🏼
which is better, anh, esb or rouge 1 and solo? because im trying to get a battlefront 2 look but not so smooth
Not a fan of the blue side decals, would prefer black, might not be authentic but surely look better like the frown?

@@GrumpX Paul is totally obsessed. In a good way. I know nobody else who is as dedicated to reproducing the TK.
Awesome video thanks!

I knew which was which, ANH helmet has light grey teeth and the frown is longer
Thx

I personally believe the best version is the rouge one stormtroopers :)
I personally think that rouge is a colour, a hue of red actually! Did you mean Rogue One?
?
I’m talking about the movie
@@dogekenobi8608 Yes.....but you still spelled it 'rouge'......that's a colour! The film was 'Rogue One'. Did you mean 'Rogue One'?
@@johnbeaton1076 of course he did.
Hello richie I love the new hope
ESB rules :-D
My name is kevin and I love New hope stunt version
ANH all the way !
ROTJ Storm Trooper helmets are visually unappealing. The Special addition 1997 ANH, Sand Trooper add ons as well.
Rotj helmets are just weird. They look squished.
Totally
I don’t like them
The ROTJ Stormtroopers look like Empire was on a budget. It seems that Death Star 2 took more credits than Emperor expected, so they had to cut some corners.
ROTJ troopers were awful. Why did the CGI insert troops in ROTJ armor in the new release of ANH? Careless...
