    OK, I got mine mounted and did first technical test just tonight. Here my first takeaways:
    1) You need to get the whole thing perfectly balanced to avoid the post moving uncontrolled when holding the post upright and moving it as a true steadicam (RS2 will keep the horizon)
    2) Moving from verical post (steadicam mode) into briefcase or even underslung is a totally different thing regarding movements and controlling the post.
    3) Actively supporting the arm movements with your body becomes even more important with the heavider payload.
    Conclusion: The RS2 does not make things easier, adding more freedom of movements, but it provides exactly this additional movement. Practicing is key!

    yes, good move!, the 3/8th screws are what are used on tripods to connect the heads to the column, so are definitely strong enough, esp. for the lighter weight cameras you are putting on them (eg: for most still cameras this 3/8th thread is enough, but for Large format monorails, they use a 5\8th thread!!).

    I was on the fence for a year or so. Got the RS2 a few month ago - awesome, but heavy weight with fully rigged S1H.
    Today, the Proaim vest II set with arm and flycam arrived. First experimenting has been very good: no more footsteps visible!
    Only keeping the horizon will require lots of practicing.
    Will order the missing parts over the weekend to complete towards your set.
    More than exited!

    I'm frm India and I bought a Weebill S gimbal 4 months ago. After trying the Arri Minity setup inspired by what James Matthews did, I felt that setup was straining my arm to exhaustion. I now honestly must thank you for the best budget setup with this vest to not lose hope on the idea. Because, both Tilta Float and DF Thanos Pro II are way expensive here for me.

    • @blacks7ven159
      @blacks7ven159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christianevangelista4562 I don’t think you’ll fully get rid of lower back pain however by exercising in the gym strengthening your muscles could help. Just allow yourself to take short breaks when not filming to recover to give your back some rest.

    • @flipnap2112
      @flipnap2112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christianevangelista4562 I actually did just using the vest and arm.. like Black said though, I went and did some back exercises and seems to not be so bad. you really have to be aware of your posture using this, regardless of the gimble. its just like lifting heavy objects when they tell you to lift with your back and not your arms.. there are certain ways to bend, even walk with a rig like this. once you have the vest you can even modify it with more braces.. its the concept that rocks. And the vest and arm are well worth it if you have a heavy camera over 6 pounds give or take. even without the gimble your arms will noodles within 2 hours

    • @anatolylitvak7454
      @anatolylitvak7454 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there ) I am on a market for something like that, what do you think about digitalfoto thanos pro 2? Looks like it’s works out of the box without that many modifications. Thanks, Toly

    • @flipnap2112
      @flipnap2112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anatolylitvak7454 if you want something out of box then yes. its only slightly more expensive. tilta is also another option, but heard some vest location point issue and lower back. however the largest point of "do it yourself" is still going to be making your gimble work. you cannot use a system like this without a baseplate power adapter. mourning a gimble with a long handle on ANY system isn't a good idea. and if you NEED a Vmount for your camera, thats another consideration. I wouldn't suggest power for camera AND gimble from one battery. people do it but I personally wouldn't. and the thanos seems to be backordered everywhere

    How many rebalancing adjustments do you need to do every time you change a lens? How long does it take you? It'll be so good to have a demonstration video about that maybe?

    • @joyoffilming9500
      @joyoffilming9500 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let me jump in here: jumping from one lens to another (assuming the jump is not from a nifty fity towards a 600mm super tele or so) will require you to 1) rebalance the gimbal with the new lens and then 2) rebalance the Flyking. If you know your gear quite well, I would asumme a time between 5-10 minutes for the overall rebalance.

    Great video, thanks! Anybody come up with a good way to combine this rig with a shotgun mic? Seems like you need a second person and maybe a boom - mounting a mic on a camera on a gimbal doesn't seem work for me, and mounting anywhere else means it's not going to point the right way. So far a lav set up with wireless go is best I can come up with.

    Great video, I just happened to find the tilta base plate for RS2. Do you think it is possible to attach the handle of the folow focus from the tilta to the arm of the vest using a clamp to be able to twist the focus with the hand that usually holds the gimbal by the handle (while the other hand guides the gimbal in space)? Then, after all, one could make crazy flights at long focal lengths, keeping the subject in focus.

    I'm nearing completion of my rig but I'm at an impass. In your 'Construction Process' section I see you're drilling a screw through the V-mount battery plate to the bottom of the RedKing stabilizer. It looks like you drill up to the head of the screw and stop, which is what happens to me. The problem is the screw head is blocking me from mounting the battery. And the only 2 holes on the plate that line up with the RedKing are a different size hole and thread. I can't figure out what to do. I hope you can help. Thanks!

    this is totally rad. I got the vest and arm.. was going to just use it like that but just picked up the ronin. this video came at a good good time. only think I wanted to ask, I was considering ditching the lower weight plate and using an extension pole with regular circular weights and V mount the battery in the vertical position. I noticed at time the regular plate was hitting my legs when I walked, if it was rotated in that way. either way this rocks. also, have you ever used the ronin to do "camera tracking" for multiple takes for compositing? wondering if the motors are "proper" for that kind of work and wont stray on repeated ttracks over the same course. thanks much and good work!! EDIT.. was wondering if you could use 2V mount batteries. 1 for the camera (I have a 6kpro and im afraid to share it on a single port.. ground loop fry and all that) and obviously the second for the gimble and monitor.

    I really don’t see the need to out the rs2 on this glidecam. You could simply get a quick release plate and put the camera right on the glidecam. Having a ronin stabilizer is not necessary for a glidecam because the glidecam is a stabilizer that works very well once you balance it and you can also put bigger cameras say like a black magic on it with no problem of the weight.

      I tried almost the same setup on a gimbal fully loaded bmcc6k, sigma 18-35, matbox and all. It's definitely possible but risky and the amount of counter weight needed to get it balanced ended up making the entire system very very heavy 😪

      @@moonlightcinematix4138 I have the same setup but the 6K pro. it worked fine on the ronin S2. a bit too heavy to hold and still gets micro jitters. I use a canon IS lens and its buttery. in fact unless that camera is on a tripod or slider I wont attempt to handhold, even with a gimbal. just too much weight for a clean shot. the mechanical pivot on this setup wont break and the weight needed for counterbalance on this setup is fine, and actually you'll need less weights on the bottom with the weight of the camera, not more
