    I was very impressed with this knife when Eric Glesser showed it to me at Shot Show 2015, and I had to make it mine. It does not disappoint.

    Just picked me up a 2015 Forum Native 5 with S90v steel. I work a couple miles from the factory in Golden. Got my PM2 there last December. Love these knives. The Native doesn't seem to get a lot of love but it's one of my favorites. Thanks for the vid!

    I have the same Native 5 and like it. The forward finger choil is great for fine cutting or carving tasks. I love Spyderco's FRN handles, they're study and keep the knife light.

    I was just at the Spyderco FOS & bought the 2015 Forum Model for $96! It has S90V Steel, Maroon FRN and I think I'm going to like it a lot

    You had me thinking "Hm, not a bad-looking EDC folder," and then you went and brought out three reasons for me not to buy one: the Sage 1 (clipped to my pocket as I type this), the Delica 4 (owned in ZDP-189), and the Leek (which I've now bought several times over). Then you add to that two more interesting-looking knives that I'll probably investigate first.
    Great review, as always, but I hope you weren't counting on a commission from selling me a Native 5. ;)

    The Native 5 has an updated midlock with a stronger spring and different lock geometry, that makes it stronger and less prone to wear (blade play, lock fail, etc.). That's why there's more resistance.

    drove by the crucible steel plant today and it got me thinking about getting an s30 or s35vn knife before they stop making the steel for these.

    I've never experienced drag with stonewashed finishes, but this looks more bead blasted than stonewashed honestly. Bead blasted blades will definitely have a bit more drag, but that cardboard you were cutting is also super tough. I would blade the material more than the blade in this particular case.

    80-100$ depends on where you buy it is a really good deal for s35vn. Now, I like how it looks and seems in performs really well. Another s35vn favorite of mine is Kizer. Not only is the steel good, but also, they really take the whole looks of the knife up another notch. I just think Kizers are very pretty, I have had mine for like 3 years and still looking great, granted, its scratched, kinda dirty and all but hey, still a beauty.
    Will see if the price here in europe is still as competitive with all that infuriating mark ups.
    Great review mate.

    I wouldn't call the finish on the Native 5 stonewashed or bead blasted. It is a polished satin finish--very smooth. So, I'm not sure why that finish would be causing it to hang up at all. It is quite slick.

    I heard another reviewer say he discounted the ergo's bc it is only comfortable (if you have large hands) to choke up on the choil, and holding it otherwise causes your pinky to slip off and a hotspot with the swell against your middle finger. He wished the handle were a little longer. What do you think?

    Bought the Maxamet in Grayman. What a sharp blade, I mean this thing cuts it self its so sharp. Yesterday, cutting something in garage, place knife on wife's car trunk. ya, she drove away, knife is lost...$164.00 gone with the wind! Dang....

    I have the G10 native, I LOVE it, but totally agree with you in that it IS a bit weighty for the amount of knife you get. Im thinking about adding the lightweight to my collection. Does it have some inset liners? Ive always likened it to a miniature Manix, very ergonomic. So glad they ditched that silly swedged tip. Cheers bro!

  • @trubadyr99
    @trubadyr99 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sage1 - I agree! A thing of beauty! Even though these wire-clips started to look cheep and flimsy in my eyes, comparing to the traditional ones. I own the Sage1 and like it a lot (even though I needed to smooth blade's rough edges and polish some of its surfaces) And I like its CF: it's NOT smooth, but grippy! Way to go with CF: don't make your knives' handles smooth, manufacturers!
    Now: CKRT - good design and cheep, budget types of steels they use... Too bad for CKRT, IMHO.

      +Austin Driver nope, most are made in Seki city, Japan (not just the steel), a few models in Taichung, Taiwan, and a few in China - mainly the budget 8cr13mov line. They only make a handful of models completely in Golden, CO. Even so, Spyderco has great quality control at all facilities, so the products are reliable regardless of where they are made, at least in my experience.

      +Goo Man
      Nope, just FRN. I can't feel any flex and it's worth the weight savings, but...
      ...It's not the smoothest opening knife, which I believe comes from the lack of liners and the partially obscured spyder hole when closed.
      My girlfriend can't easily open it one-handed, but I think that it comes down to ergonomics (and her small hands). She can get better thumb leverage with the Delica's higher Spyder hole, so we swapped knives. (I still may buy her a Kershaw flipper for Christmas to see if she likes it better).

    Are there people out there that prefer their knife to not have a deep carry pocket clip ?
    If so, why ?

    • @JPzTubez
      @JPzTubez 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be harder for some people to get it out of their pocket if the clip is too deep. The wire clip on the Manix 2 lightweight is my ideal depth. I don't like a lot sticking out but I want enough that taking it out is smooth and consistent without having to use a gaudy lanyard.

    • @plooopeee
      @plooopeee 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience, the Spyderco wire clips get caught when you lean against things. I've jacked up the clips on both a Manix 2 and a Dragonfly several times. On one occasion, the Dragonfly got actually got yanked from my pocket. SOGs carry so deep that your pocket can roll up in the top of the clip, making it difficult to extract the knife.
