    This debaters are so good that I always agree with them and then change my mind every time a new speaker comes.

    True love always existed. It's what brought our universe into existence.

    True love is a farrago of feelings.

    Shakespeare didn't define love or invent romantic poetry and she sounds like she has qualms about the repetitiveness of Hollywood narratives rather than arguing for or against the notion itself. Since she put down the previous speaker right away, it might also be prudent to point out that her algorithm or formula approach delivers only a reasonably compatible match who is quite similar to her. However, your true love and most perfect match is not necessarily someone who agrees with you on everything but someone who keeps you on your toes, who challenges you, someone you can learn from and who can learn from you in return, so her entire cynical calculation was pointless. "A comfortable formula of true love", she says - exactly but the debate is about true love not comfortable love. And you have no choice but to vote for the proposition? What kind of a thing is that to say in a debate?

      Good point! I thought I'd agree with her just before I've read your comment :D

    This resounded with me in a personal way! Some years ago, I joined a very reputable and thorough dating site. I lived in a city of several million people and thought my chances were good. I went through the calculations Amy did, in a lesser way, and came to her conclusions. Through my choices in life, I had painted myself into a corner. Oh, well!

    the concept of love in american love movies, has become more differentiated since the 90s, the ugly truth, how to lose a guy in 50 days (?), 50 first dates etc. we are living in 2023. you can not even refer to fairytales, since american series have flipped around the roles of the evil witch and the good princess, good turning bad and vice versa.

    what style of debating is this ?

    • @DiaboloTraining
      @DiaboloTraining 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's most like British Parliamentary (BP)

      @@DiaboloTraining This seems to me like a different style than BP.
      In BP, you do have two sides (Government and Opposition) and two teams on each side. There are also adjudicators that vote for the winning side and not the audience. Also, we do not get to introduce the members on the other side as these speakers do.

      So because she disagrees with you, she must be wrong?
      You pathetic, insecure cretin.

      There is no qualification required to be 'eligible' to debate at the OU. They bring in guests from all over the country and world, even Cambridge alumni. A very famous debate was the nuclear weapons debate, where the Prime Minister of New Zealand was a speaker, and said the famous line, "I can smell the uranium on your breath".

    Materialism is so boring...I would not trust anyone who takes the spirit out of love......if we are just clumps of cells walking around then there is no hope no future no love just hot air ....and what i have written and what this lady has said is also hot air ..who cares ...talk about taking the fun out of life. Truth and love is a person Jesus Christ...God in the flesh. What id God was one of us ...He was but many of us miss him.
