The video has a good level of editing, quirks like the mission passed and giving good samples, that sets this iceberg video apart from many other iceberg videos. I enjoy listening to this. Great job!
agreed! It's some of the most detailed work I've ever seen. I would love to collaborate someday using mohs scale of musical hardness someday using various music genres. It goes technically from "0" to "12" (normally 1-11). Obviously many of the genres at the bottom of the iceberg would qualify as a 12 or "beyond the scale" as tvtropes calls it haha
I appreciate the effort and soul you put into this video❤, this definitely deserves more views and thank you for introducing me to many new music genres and the songs you selected for each music genre are amazing and good representation of each genre, I feel like a more cultured music listener now 😂
I'm literally so happy you got visual-kei right. For anyone that's interested, there's so many different music genres in visual-kei since it's fashion based and not to mention how many different visuals there are. They can rage fron pop to death metal and colorful outfits to gothic. I love vkei and I'm also happy you put actually vkei artists unlike others I've seen. There is also so much to it as well. Malice Mizer Deviloof Jiluka Dadaroma The madna Gackt X japan Versailles Kamijo Lareine Kaya Fukuro Sick 2 Noulla Buck tick D Gulu gulu Kaneto juusei Baiser Those are just a few bands I recommend for anyone who is interested. I apologize if I left other ones out, I just listed ones one the top of my head. I tried to get a wide rage of music and visuals.
I remember that X Japan is more so glam metal (heard it's the Japanese equivalent of Guns N Roses). I know for other bands that might not be entirely Visual Kei but on the Visual Kei spectrum in so many different genres, Galneryus is very power metal, Deluhi is straight up metalcore, Undivide is deathcore, Far East Dizain is very progressive metal almost djent, and Dir En Grey is the definition of avant garde metal
20 minutes in and this is already such a fantastic video. i will say on the topic of dubstep - the original 'dubstep' was focused on rather slow, ambient atmospheres, and had those wubby-esque basslines subtly buried into their mixes. what eventually became of dubstep (from skrillex and the like) is referred to as 'brostep', which accentuates the wubby basslines and turns them into more club oriented, bass heavy songs. i know a lot of music nerds hate brostep, but i like both, lol. they both have their place and purpose.
Helping out on the Dubstep part: Dubstep started out as the genre of the first song you showed: deep basslines a more eerie atmosphere and more garage-influenced drums. Over the course of the years, the genre went evolving until Skrillex created a very different style of Dubstep: with harsher sonds, heavier drums (influenced by rock or metal) and a "rave" atmosphere and Pop culture influences. This subgenre whose official name is Brostep, ended up more popular than the original, and since the name brostep wasn't coined back, this made people associate Dubstep with only its subgenre Brostep and a few others (Drumstep, Briddim, Moombahcore and Complextro; the last two not even being actual subgenres of dubstep) to this day, while the OG British Dubstep did not die, but remained in the underground.
Did not finish watching this vid, so i don't know if you'll mention other dubstep subgenres, just saw the confusion and went to see if anyone has already clarify it. Either way, great video so far!
I just want to say to you, Lambert, for making this video a success. This would make people understand that these weird genres are providing NSFW and NSFL benefits. You know in the iceberg, some things get weirder and weirder. Some genres I found suspicious are: Danger Music, Death Industrial, Power Electronics, Blackened Noise, and Harsh Noise
Yeah those are quite wierd lol :\ But you know what they say, "music is expression" or something, "there is no objectively bad music" etc. etc. ... although this list had me doubting that lmao
I like that you used the isley brothers in the soul section when you used today was a good day in the hip hop section that used used that song as a sample
Suicide Silence isn't screamo and the band name on the third song under screamo is Gospel not the moon is a dead world which is the name of the album of the song that’s on here. I would've had suicide silence under deathcore. Good iceberg though
(By this list) Most obscure genre I've listened to: extreme hypertone (tier 9) Most obscure genre I made into a full song: xenharmonics (tier 9) Most obscure genre I made into a full song and released it publicaly: supertone/hypertone (tier 8) Have I lost it, guys? I also listen to harsh noise and extratone on a weekly basis.
I would love to collaborate with you on a list using mohs scale of musical hardness someday, It goes technically from "0" to "12" (normally 1-11). Obviously many of the genres at the bottom of your iceberg would qualify as a 12 or "beyond the scale" as tvtropes calls it haha
I like pretty much all music, my favorites are Psytrance, Dubstep, Disco, Metal, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, 1st Wave Black Metal, Death Metal, Deathgrind, Grindcore, Goregrind, War Metal
HE GOT ARTCORE RIGHT AND PUT GOOD EXAMPLES instead of making a ton more comments imma just add my thoughts onto this one i wish he put some omori stuff in weird game ost lol SO HAPPY TO SEE CARETAKER IN DRAK AMBIENT DARIACORE SPOTTING
Great video but what the person putting together the iceberg didnt realize is that i didnt want to hear the 500 different genres of grindr-metal-gurgglenoise-core but i wanted to hear shit like "glam sitar psych alien bluegrass". The niche genre with only 2 composers of in the world !!
SEWERSLVT MENTIONED THATS ALL I NEED (jk well half jk, this video is amazing!! Its very put well together i love this man, and damn does the title keep its name, i looked for breakcore and i see breakcore everything is included thats just amazing)
1:06 my Polish accent can be pretty rough as well XD jahahahahaha I loved your honesty man!!! XD I mean you have an accent but I did not noticed it was Polish, I thought sth like German or Ucrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian :3 2:34 Dua Lipaaaaaaa yeah!!!! Super man, channel 100 out of 10, Subscribe!!!! Like, share, etc XD but first I want to see if you put Kpop and Electro with all substyles XD
I'm quite surprised, for such a long video the examples for my absolute favorite all time genre Makina are really good actually! 2:04:55 Didnt even for the modern 'Makina' tracks they do in the UK now, wich is really just an insult to the roots of the genre. Every example is original Spanish makina. 💜 I can't imagine how tedious it is to create a video of this length! Good job!
IDM is my second favorite music genre (only behind ambient music) My favorite IDM musicians are Aphex Twin, I Am Robot And Proud, Squarepusher, Ametsub, Wisp, Plaid, Luke Vibert, Bonobo, Amon Tobin, BOC, Skee Mask, Venetian Snares, Clark, Telefon Tel Aviv, Futurr Sound of London, Murcof, etc
3 of the 4 mainstream techno examples were NOT techno also bro said for riddim "it shares the same name as the jamaican genre" and then played the jamaican genre and not hte subgenre of dubstep
big room house is not mainstream techno (I'd rather start with Amelie Lens), Joy division is post-punk, jazz here isn't really jazzy, heavy metal - Slayer is rather thrash metal, post-hardcore/metalcore isn't real screamo, 2nd wave of black metal is rather Darkthrone, Mayhem, Gorgoroth and so on, that Burzum track is just dark ambient, Mgła is 3rd wave BM, Darkwave is rather something like Kælan Mikla, schranz doesn't really sound like that, that minimal dub is just dub techno?, skramz = real scremo, these hard techno tracks are just regular techno/rave
It was an intentional joke to put those examples for "swing" music right? Bell Biv DeVoe? Id actually listen to the whole thing if I didn't click randomly on that part, a legitimate comprehensive overview of all genres is a great idea but I obviously cant trust youre gonna get the things I don't know correct after that lol
well... swing is more so the rhythmic style of unequal divide between subdivisions. Traditional swing I'd just refer to it as Swing Jazz. I don't think it's too inappropriate to put a New Jack Swing artist as an example of swing rhythm, not to mention Jazz in general was on the same tier on the iceberg
@@Mr.GoldbarI understand how swing works rhythmically speaking. But this is a video on genres, not rhythmic interpretations. Its like you saying ur gonna put on some Drum & Bass, and then you put on james brown cause it has drums and bass in it... Just look up "swing music" wikipedia says it refers to the swing jazz style.
Yo I may be half a year late but I fw both of these genres so I can explain It really REALLY depends on the band's style and a lot of albums could be classified as both at the same time (for example Souvlaki) but there are subtle differences. With dreampop, the singer is usually higher in the mix and thus easier to hear. With My Bloody Valentine (shoegaze), it's hard to hear any of that shit. The amount of distortion is also usually a sign. Dreampop relies a lot more on reverb and typically isn't as distorted as shoegaze. You could say that Dream pop is closer to the typical pop song structure, but Shoegaze bands like Ride tend to have pop structured songs as well. In conclusion: think Beach House and Cocteau Twins for dreampop. My Bloody Valentine is the most distinctly shoegaze. Slowdive is very important to both of these genres. Sorry, this shit is so overlapped and confusing but I tried
@@redblurinkgaming7238 Wdym "?" 😭 Your comment was about how this iceberg was missing a genre and I replied how I noticed another one that was also missing as well
Electro swing of all things wasn't included either despite easily being able to fit into the 1st or 2nd tier. There were some more genres that could've been included instead of a million subgenres or the same sort of music and noise
Also, Slowcore is the dumbest genre name ever. I get that it's a subgenre of rock but the name sounds like an attempt at claiming that all music that's slow is a new genre
As a young little metalhead I used to say all EDM styles sound the same, but I realized it's not true after... actually maturing. I hope you do the same :D
Specific timestamps now all fixed & accurate after some cuts. (a short comment at the end)

Now I'm aware of some fuck-ups, like Electronica for example, its samples aren't electronica even one bit. Still I think that ~95% of this video is done correctly, but if you caught some more errors, just put it in comments below as some of you already did. Let's educate together.
If I were doing this video now, that would be much more accurate (especially samples) since now i'm super into that genre knowledge and now e.g. that dubstep-brostep thingy from the video makes me cringe how stupid I was to not know such a basic knowledge.
Extreme hyper-tone just sounds like a dog whistle.
Bro you forgot mincegore the only music that you forgot is this except this good video
@AshAleksandra sure go ahead

Amazing video, dude
DUDE, the fact this only has 10k views is absolutely insane
U should!! Id watch it@@Kain_R_Heinlein
Thank you for adding animal sounds deep into the iceberg, I needed that.
That’s enough music for me today.
This whole thing must've been such a pain in the ass to edit and put together, good job
Daaaaaaaamn I'd have to check out more EBSM later! Thank you so much :)
I loved that you included some eurovision entries, great video!
I appreciate the effort and soul you put into this video❤, this definitely deserves more views and thank you for introducing me to many new music genres and the songs you selected for each music genre are amazing and good representation of each genre, I feel like a more cultured music listener now 😂
What a big project so amazing!

Buck tick is my favorite I love watching theirs lives performances, though I need to expand my artist l I
@@picoo-vv7dr i recommend Luna Sea they are pretty good and Malice Mizer and X-Japan are a few bands to start with as well
I remember that X Japan is more so glam metal (heard it's the Japanese equivalent of Guns N Roses).
The reason why we hate brostep isn't necessarily that it's bad, but that it almost completely redefined a genre, like what drift did to phonk.
this transition is hilarious ☠️ 3:56:15 amazing video btw, hope it gets the visibilty it needs for all the work that went into it
Such an underrated video with a lot of effort
Helping out on the Dubstep part:
Dubstep started out as the genre of the first song you showed: deep basslines a more eerie atmosphere and more garage-influenced drums.
Yooo this is a great video
What a nice video and respect for the tremendous effort in this video. 4 friggin hours, damn. And 8:54 was just fucking clever
Yeah those are quite wierd lol
:\
But you know what they say, "music is expression" or something, "there is no objectively bad music" etc. etc. ... although this list had me doubting that lmao
This deserves like 1M views
i think my music taste is definitely normal
after watching this video lmao
I love mixed music. I like hearing the vintage or old samples and enjoying creative remixes of them. It's like mixing the old with the new. I love it
its so funny to me that 'outsider' is in Music Nerd but not in Outsider
hardstyle on the surface is kinda wild
also riddim being in the same section as powerviolence is funny and silly
I like that you used the isley brothers in the soul section when you used today was a good day in the hip hop section that used used that song as a sample
i didnt know goofy ahh sound effect was a music genre 2:51:00
cant wait to be traumatized by the end of this video
Truly amazing
Suicide Silence isn't screamo and the band name on the third song under screamo is Gospel not the moon is a dead world which is the name of the album of the song that’s on here. I would've had suicide silence under deathcore. Good iceberg though
(By this list)
Most obscure genre I've listened to: extreme hypertone (tier 9)
Most obscure genre I made into a full song: xenharmonics (tier 9)
Most obscure genre I made into a full song and released it publicaly: supertone/hypertone (tier 8)
Have I lost it, guys? I also listen to harsh noise and extratone on a weekly basis.
I would love to collaborate with you on a list using mohs scale of musical hardness someday, It goes technically from "0" to "12" (normally 1-11). Obviously many of the genres at the bottom of your iceberg would qualify as a 12 or "beyond the scale" as tvtropes calls it haha
im mostly just proud i recognized a song in the bottom tier (senseless massacre by rings of saturn, from progressive alien deathcore)
I listened to t rex noises and dinosaur ambient sounds recently and was also gleeful that Im not a normie 😂
Imagine using the noisy genres on the deepest side of the iceberg to torture prisoners instead of pop music
czekamy !!
Seeing syringe(sybyr) in trap metal made me smile: such an underrated artist
I am currently at tier 7 and it is horrifying know that this is not the last tier.
I like pretty much all music, my favorites are Psytrance, Dubstep, Disco, Metal, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, 1st Wave Black Metal, Death Metal, Deathgrind, Grindcore, Goregrind, War Metal
Why is no one talking about how electro swing is just not present? That should've been on the first or second tier but it's just forgotten😭
Having Eminem 3 times in the same category (Hip-Hop) should tell you something about his legacy
HE GOT ARTCORE RIGHT AND PUT GOOD EXAMPLES
instead of making a ton more comments imma just add my thoughts onto this one
i wish he put some omori stuff in weird game ost lol
SO HAPPY TO SEE CARETAKER IN DRAK AMBIENT
DARIACORE SPOTTING
cm punk theme caught me off guard 🤣
Great video but what the person putting together the iceberg didnt realize is that i didnt want to hear the 500 different genres of grindr-metal-gurgglenoise-core but i wanted to hear shit like "glam sitar psych alien bluegrass". The niche genre with only 2 composers of in the world !!
Are deathstep, minatory and tearout in the video? I havent seen them
looks like i hear slavic accent
SEWERSLVT MENTIONED THATS ALL I NEED (jk well half jk, this video is amazing!! Its very put well together i love this man, and damn does the title keep its name, i looked for breakcore and i see breakcore everything is included thats just amazing)
1:06 my Polish accent can be pretty rough as well XD jahahahahaha I loved your honesty man!!! XD I mean you have an accent but I did not noticed it was Polish, I thought sth like German or Ucrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian :3
2:34 Dua Lipaaaaaaa yeah!!!! Super man, channel 100 out of 10, Subscribe!!!! Like, share, etc XD but first I want to see if you put Kpop and Electro with all substyles XD
uh.. timestamps?
I'm quite surprised, for such a long video the examples for my absolute favorite all time genre Makina are really good actually!
2:04:55
Didnt even for the modern 'Makina' tracks they do in the UK now, wich is really just an insult to the roots of the genre. Every example is original Spanish makina. 💜
I can't imagine how tedious it is to create a video of this length! Good job!
Heliosphan is a classic IDM track
IDM is my second favorite music genre (only behind ambient music)
My favorite IDM musicians are Aphex Twin, I Am Robot And Proud, Squarepusher, Ametsub, Wisp, Plaid, Luke Vibert, Bonobo, Amon Tobin, BOC, Skee Mask, Venetian Snares, Clark, Telefon Tel Aviv, Futurr Sound of London, Murcof, etc
goo job bro
3 of the 4 mainstream techno examples were NOT techno
also bro said for riddim "it shares the same name as the jamaican genre" and then played the jamaican genre and not hte subgenre of dubstep
Nice comp. And awesome notice for listeners. ( 1:41:50 ) 🥰👍🤟
big room house is not mainstream techno (I'd rather start with Amelie Lens), Joy division is post-punk, jazz here isn't really jazzy, heavy metal - Slayer is rather thrash metal, post-hardcore/metalcore isn't real screamo, 2nd wave of black metal is rather Darkthrone, Mayhem, Gorgoroth and so on, that Burzum track is just dark ambient, Mgła is 3rd wave BM, Darkwave is rather something like Kælan Mikla, schranz doesn't really sound like that, that minimal dub is just dub techno?, skramz = real scremo, these hard techno tracks are just regular techno/rave
Awkward silence 2:02:22
Very gooddd.
3:21:00 speedrunners during ace and srm manipulation
Every time I hear black sabbath my mind immediately goes to the mac sabbath parody.
I'm surprised that Tejano is not in here
I listen to everything that isnt pop music (and i mean everything)
My coworker said to me imm the boogieman of people who say “I listen to everything!” 😂 cuz I be listening to some weird shit
4:13:15 edit: SOUND WARNING!
song of the year
aghhh my ears
It was an intentional joke to put those examples for "swing" music right? Bell Biv DeVoe? Id actually listen to the whole thing if I didn't click randomly on that part, a legitimate comprehensive overview of all genres is a great idea but I obviously cant trust youre gonna get the things I don't know correct after that lol
welp
well... swing is more so the rhythmic style of unequal divide between subdivisions.
@@ethanscheuer4308 He has other entries too that are not genres but compositional techniques, iif we go by that format we might aswell go all the way
1:40:32 I love Dsbm
53:35 this is my home
This video is awesome but I cannot watch this much in one go
Eh why Mashcore music are become the example in Reizokore 🤔?
Maybe it have relationship with Reizoko CJ, but most of his music are Mashcore
luv
What about Kusoikore?
Anyone have that song by witch1990 or a link to it? It's D j i n n
I don't really get what the difference is between Shoegaze and Dream Pop
Yo I may be half a year late but I fw both of these genres so I can explain
It really REALLY depends on the band's style and a lot of albums could be classified as both at the same time (for example Souvlaki) but there are subtle differences.
Now that I've seen the shoegaze section I should add that every chosen song except "When You Sleep" is closer to dream pop than shoegaze.
3:32:46 Actually there are Christian and Islamic NSBM bands. Compatriot(USA) and Jugra(Malaysia) for example
check ishkur's guide for electronic music if you are into the detailed subgenres of electronic music
listening your voice was a another type music man
No trance??
I know there is goa and psytrance, but no trance like vocal or uplifiting in the video..sadly..
Mocarny Iceberg 👊
I need the time stamps 😭
done and pinned
Bro you forgot mincegore the only music that you forgot is this except this good video
Somehow electro swing was forgotten as well despite it not being an obscure genre at all and could've easily been in the first or second tier
@@ClockiePizza ?
@@redblurinkgaming7238 Wdym "?" 😭
Your comment was about how this iceberg was missing a genre and I replied how I noticed another one that was also missing as well
@@ClockiePizza oh ok
Bruh you didn't include almost every edm genre but include a fucking noise
He didn't make the iceberg he just explained it. Blame deathdoll
Noise is one of the best genres
Electro swing of all things wasn't included either despite easily being able to fit into the 1st or 2nd tier.
There were some more genres that could've been included instead of a million subgenres or the same sort of music and noise

sigilkore and plugg are nowhere to be found...
only one of the three songs in the breakcore section is actual breakcore, video ruined.
is it me or all metal genres sound the same?!
