  • If you’re a dog owner and pay any attention to climate change or the impact of plastic on the earth then you’ve probably wondered how to dispose of dog poop the green way, the most eco-friendly way possible.
In this video I discuss each of the 7 main options out there to dispose of your dogs waste and which poop disposal system is the best for the planet. Some are so green that not only do they not produce any trash, they actually result in a useful + useable end product (and what can be more eco-friendly than that?).

There is an option similar to the toilet one. You can get this funnel thing that attaches to your sewer cleanout and it has a screw in plug. Basically it extends the sewer cleanout. So you unscrew the plug, and toss poo directly into the sewer line, then pour or hose some water down after it. Same as the toilet option, but you don't have to carry a shovel full of poo through your house.

After the big 3 gasses, all other gasses, including the greenhouse gasses, make up 0.04% of the atmosphere. Water vapor is the #1 greenhouse gas, followed by CO2, then methane. It's not an issue.
I was talking to a coworker about using a catapult and just hurling it out of the yard.

For low attention span people like me:
    1. Regular trash
    2. Flush it. Empty the bag in the toilet/Flushable dog bags.
    3. Doggy septic tank.
    4. Bury it 6-12 inches deep
    5. Compost, if you have a good temperatured compost system and turn it properly.
    6. Wormery
    7. Production of biogas

For my situation, I was hoping for a natural spray/powder to put on the poop in the yard to cause it to break down quickly. I have always had an interest in a wormery and never considered creating a separate one where doo can be placed and get castings for non-food flower gardens.

I think I’m going to try the composting for my flowers and shrubs.

It’s not a good idea because if you don’t do it exactly right it could make your food bad to eat so only do it to non edible things

He said links will be included to direct you to products to help with a wormery but there was only one. Also, my dogs take a monthly worm preventative (interceptor). Will this kill the worms (red wigglers, African or European earthworms, etc.)? Thank you, great vid

Thanks for the info! I'm torn between composting and septic tank but considering I have two Irish Wolfhounds at home, and that both of them prefer to use the backyard, I might set up more than one! Big dogs, big poos 😂

Would a container full of salt or baking soda work?

Would compostable bags decompose in this type of compost? Most require heat so I am just not certain this would generate enough heat, especially in the winter. I have no way to pick up waste when I am not at home and bring it to the compost so that's why I am considering compostable bags but I am worried I might end up with a huge mess.

I'm not a big gardener but I think that if you set up a compost well it's surprising how hot the contents get and I would have thought that the compostable bags would break down in this. It might be more of a challenge in winter depending on where you are of course. Maybe ask at your local garden center, who might also be able to give you some setup advice

@@OurPetsHealth According to Wikipedia "Compostable means capable of undergoing biological decomposition in a compost site such that the material is not visually distinguishable and breaks down into carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds..." and "The inclusion of "inorganic materials" precludes the end product from being considered as compost, or humus, which is purely organic material..." and "In the Great Pacific garbage patch, biodegradable plastics break up into small pieces that can more easily enter the food chain by being consumed."
I think "compostable bags" is a fad that will cause more damage. Best to keep people aware of the harms of, and limiting the use of plastic to uses that are truly essential.
The conundrum is that plastic is a "wonder" material because there are no bacteria in that can unpack the molecule. So things can be safely sealed. There are instances where you need to know a material will not be dismantled by bacteria. That is a very valuable property - until it was abused and used for everything, even where such a quality is not essential. There are scientists that have been working on bacteria that can unpack the plastic molecule. But that would be like unleashing a "pest" that would render plastic forever useless - it can eventually enter homes and disintegrate things you would never have worried about.

So after watching your video, i still don't know what option i shoul do cuz i live in a small village and plastic bag or plastic stuffs are used like a normal thing. I start use waste from kitchen for making compost and limit the trash so my dad doesn't need to use so much plastic bag to contain them. But my parents they don't like the way i save plastic bag in my home and they told me ' i didn't need to do stupid things, just use plastic, everyone does, it's okay'.So if i burry this shit in my garden or do these thing to keep this shit which is smell my dad will yell at me. I am so helpless although i have explain to them that lots of bad thing is happen for our eviroment and animal but they do not really aware of it. And i can't angry them cuz plastic is a part of our live, my mom is a tailor and she need plastic bag for deliver clothes for customer. Someone will say that you're a cheaskeat if they buy thing and you don't give them a plastic bag for containing things. I just don't know which way to get out of these toxic plastic. I'll leave my house for my study so i know everything will go back to the first step. Now i feel so helpless.
