    Wow what an epic for the rhythm section 17:30min... It's like when you get a truck you get a sign that reads "No I will not help you move" maybe drummers need a sign when they see three horn players competing to out blow each other haha... Having said that I like the Alto player and of course Chad but hats off to Thomas who after 12min backing everyone else plays a great solo!!

    All great saxophonists! At the risk of sounding critical, it sounds like the first two soloist are playing from a place of competition versus artistry. We are all guilty of this sometimes. It becomes about “chops” versus truly taking the risk of not being seen as the one with the most chops. This music is very subjective at best and I am truly blown away with the abilities of all these players, but we have to keep in mind that it is about the music not who is going to get the next gig because of how much faster than the next guy you can play. I prefer more space and interaction with the rhythm section. It can become too academic and patternistic which eventually leads to a splash of boredom. Also, what is wrong with a mic? It sounds like it must have been too loud and the players are overblowing. Been there too myself!

    • @bassmonk2920
      @bassmonk2920 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a bassist who supports everyone all the time, the really advance players interact and share the rhythmical space allowing everyone to contribute to the soloist success. As advance as the new players are coming out of college these days, just talking/playing fast might make me remember you but not the band and in the end financially bands get booked/remembered more than individuals.

    The chord work and amount of technical prowess in these are really amazing.
    I'm a bit confused at Justin's solo being essentially an endless stream of eighth notes with 16th breaks and phrases ending on a quarter. Chad does like 70% the same thing and breaks it up with melodic callbacks. It's a bunch of fun melodic shapes but in a really dull rhythm... Is he doing something rhythmically through those 45 second long strings of eighth notes that I just can't hear besides the single long note phrase breaks?
