Sally Hawkins as usual gives an incredible portrayal of the main character of this movie. She is such a talent that should never be overseen. Bravo to this incredible actor.
Sally Hawkins performance was spectacular and moving throughout. At it's core, it's a story of two lonely people, who find comfort and solace with each other.
Maudie is a great movie about real people during a different time, of hard lives in rural areas of early Canada. Her paintings are tributes to human resilience and endurance. I am so thankful to have seen this movie.
One of my favorite movies ever...I'll never forget it. Truly touched my heart in a profound way...also some of the best acting I've ever seen... Loved this movie ❤️😍💐🌸🌷💗😻😊
Best film ive seen on years....acting is outstanding....sally n ethan shud get oscars....maudie stolen my heart...cant get this movie out of my mind...stil cry!!!!!🌹🌸🌻🌼🌷🌺🌼🌻🌸🌹🌷🌷🌷
Of the comments yours resonates the most for me. I only just watched it for the first time - watched it twice more and wiped back tears every time. I too can't stop thinking about it. Am trying to convince my wife to watch it. Trust Canada to produce a masterpiece.
victoria vezich Could be. I don't know. I just know how wonderful these actors were. What a powerful film. I do believe there might have been a play. Don't hold me to that. I've never seen anyone protray, someone else, this well. Extraordinary film!!
OlympianFilms - I'm from the east coast of Canada and Sally's Maud made me both sad and happy somehow. It reminded me of the first memories of my home when I was a child... In a great way. Maud was so quiet and frail, but loud and strong at the same time. I've never watched such a sad movie and felt so strong from it afterwards. I think its my favourite movie ever.
I love this movie too i hsve only purchased a couple of movies in my life and this is one of them thst way 20 years from now if i want to watch it i will have it!!!
Watched the film and cried , but cried more when when I read the real story....she didn’t get any money because he took it ,so he kept Maud in poverty, him resenting Maud and being spiteful to her because he was jealous , him being murdered etc etc So , beautiful film but I’m old enough to take the truth......because it’s supposed to be a TRUE STORY not a fluffy fairy tale
Stating that Maud's rheumatoid arthritis was a reflection of her emotional state ... rather than the greatest contributor and cause of her emotional state ... is incredibly ignorant and irresponsible.
Lydia Cypher: Thank you for your message. That's a unique perspective. Would you mind telling me how you came to your conclusion. What in my comment has you assuming that I am ignorant?
@@consciousmoviereviews9730, my objection is that your review is fully of whimsical (at best), pejorative (at worst) pseudo-psychological interpretations of Maud's personality and emotional state as the cause of her illness. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that is both debilitating and deforming. Individuals struggling to deal with this illness while trying to live a semblance of a normal life, suffer physically, psychologically and emotionally as a result of the illness, not the other way around. Worse yet, in Maud's case, she was treated by her family as though she was mentally defective as well as physically challenged and denied the autonomy to make her own decisions. These realities kept her insecure and dependent on them. It was a different time and a different place. In the end, she managed to shine in spite of it all. Imagine what her life might have been like had she received the medical and emotional support that kids with RA receive today.
@@lydiainphoenix Thank you for your response. I do have a professional background in holistic medicine. We recognize the emotional and psychological side of disease, besides looking at it as just a biological pathology. You can't separate the body, mind, emotions and spirit when it comes to a chronic condition. Drawing from training in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, emotions can be stored in the organs and musculature. That's a body of knowledge that Western Medicine has yet to understand. If you ever study emotional states as it relates to disease, you can have a propensity towards a particular condition. Also, I have treated many cases of Arthritis in the clinic to address their physical symptoms and underlying factors that contribute to it that's not typically addressed by their doctors (with a predominately Western Medical background).

i really enjoyed this review...with one exception..everett may have been shattered (so was maud) but he took the decision to be an angry, bitter and self centered man. their marriage was filled with neglect, lack of empathy, and a lack of respect. everett, at least portrayed in the movie, was a sociopath/ narcissist. and maud, bless her heart, took his abuse, surely believing she deserved no better. this is just my opinion, and i don’t really know if it’s right or wrong, it just upset me to hear and see some of the same things i experienced in my own marriage. thank you for this very thoughtful and well made review. i love this movie and maud.
Michael Alvarez: I agree that not many outside of Canada are familiar with Maud Lewis, which is a shame. She seems like such an endearing women with a child-like sensitivity. That's rare as you get older. You either mellow out or become bitter. Child-like with a renewed sense of wonderment and growing wisdom is a higher level than most as a state of beingness. To see it on the screen is special!
Judy Morrell: I agree. There's another side to Everett that I'm learning through others about. I did read that he was murdered in the home they shared. That's unfortunate. I've wondered what happened to Maud's daughter over the years.
All I can say is that maude definitely married the wrong person. I saw a clip where he hit her and he did emotional abuse by saying things verbally that made her feel bad like when he said u have less value then the animals instead of equal value. As someone who has been abused I don't take it or anything that reminds me of it. I hope that man suffered amd so did her emotionally abusive aunt

I agree, best movie made in years!
The video was thought provoking and beautifully explained aspects of the movie.
She was easily content, simple, caring, talented, tenacious, and inspirational.
I've loved this movie and then this year I got to make my oldest daughter cry lols over this movie and she's totally in love with it too 😊
Thank you for posting.❤
I love the movie and the respect they show to this couple
I really enjoying watching Maudie. The actress and the actor acted so well. I will remember forever.
Such an extraordinary movie!! I cried, as a child, while watching the film.

I agreed with Susie Salter below. Magnificent! This reality is greater than a fiction !

I'm with you on this one. Outstanding movie.
Very insightful! Thx you so much for this great video☆☆☆
Loved this thankyouxxxxx
Such a wonderful film. Ethan Hawke is truly a talented actor. Salley Hawkins as well although I didn't know of her before watching the movie.
I saw this film on a Lufthansa flight on route to Vienna to get me some high culture. I wept with pride of what we have right here.
What happened to her husband Everett?
He lived years after her death and i read somewhere that he was killed by robbers who were trying to rob all of money left from Maud's commissions.
Best film ever
This film was let down. Nobody saw it! It was really good!

yep great film
There is no way I can find a better review than this one
This movie doesn’t depict how awful Everett was to Maude

He was an abusive husband physically and financially to maudie
