  • The only thing scary about this Halloween tape is the horrendous movie that was airing at the moment, namely the 1975 Irwin Allen (of Poseidon Adventure fame/infamy) production of "Swiss Family Robinson".
This ORIGINALLY aired on Los Angeles, California independent station, KHJ (now KCAL) on Saturday, October 31, 1981. This particular recording was captured by way of Guam Cable TV, which, to the best of my knowledge, ran these programs (and their attached ads) anywhere from a day to a couple of months after the actual airdate. Given this was a "local" recording, I'd guess this was taped on November 1st or 2nd, 1981.

Ahh! There's nothing like wow and flutter on the audio of a videotape. Reminds me of watching videos at school on that back-breakingly heavy Ferguson/Baird VHS toploader with the typewriter keys. The audio always sounded drunk!

I think that's the Carpeteria guy's two-pack-a-day smoker cousin in that second VB Companies commercial.

That's Mr. Tic Tac Dough, Gambit, and Debt himself, Wink Martindale v/o the now defunct Montgomery Ward commercial.

The phrase "Nineteen-Eighty Ford" had me confused for a solid minute.

Why does it have a Guam television ID at the front?

John Field Show The poster suggested this was played in Guam from a tape possibly months after it first aired. I could see why they did that. Similar stations in Guam and Hawaii always had to get their progrmas on delay from when they were originally aired on the mainland.

John Field Show Good question...unless this was recorded from a cable channel or service.

Also because of the military bases there...we used to get tape delay stuff at subic bay naval base in the philippines back in 89.

As a music collecter my whole life since i bought my 1st. 45...ktel has some of the best, best of, music compilations...if you can still find them on vinyl...sure, some songs sucked, but in 2020...even those get requested.
