    Graphite powder is great stuff. If you mix some with oil and make a paste type stuff it’s some of the best lapping compound you’ll ever find. I use it to clean up beat up threads on nuts & bolts, and lapping scope rings etc.

    If I may, I might recommend that you mix the shot between containers with at least an N95 mask on with a fan blowing hard outside across you while you do it. The color your seeing on the shot after it comes out of the liquid is lead oxide and when your mixing it between containers your breaking it off and sending it everywhere as lead dust that will poison you. My uncle found out the hard way back in the 90's making shot and casting bullets. It darn near killed him and he has had some nasty lasting effects from it ever since. I took his lesson to heart and use the mask and only work with lead outdoors with a fan blowing across between me and the lead.

    Very neat Thor’s axe. Cheaper and fun👍🏻 looks like you’re exploring every aspect of the reloading world. Don’t know if I’ll ever load shot but will reference your slug videos when I start casting and loading slugs. Thanks for making all this info available👍🏻

      I would no wast any time, effort or material on buying any other slug molds other than the Russian ones. They are accurate and well engineered to perform. For years and decades, tons of lead was wasted by people trying to get performance with the molds that were available on the market. I feel that has all ended now. Dave.

    Thanks Dave. You've taken the mystery out of this process. The $ savings from this can make Trap and Skeet shooting much more affordable. Plus , it looks like fun!

      It is fun. If you can get you material cheap enough, that will take up the cost of the machine in the end. I had recovered lead already from the range that had no cost to it other than my time, However, even if you paid $1.00 a pound for lead, that will still beat the price of the reclaimed shot. and have a fun Saturday afternoon doing it, there isn't any real work to it. It's not like casting bullets. anyway, I just want to say thank you for all your advice, You are absolutely right about the aspects of shotgunning. it isn't like other shooting sports. and there is a technique to it that need the practice to get good at it. Thanks again, Dave.

      I don't know what it is about getting out a pot of lead and melting it down, however, it's like a Dog whistle to the neighbor guys. My neighbor came over and the next thing I knew we were turning and burning, It's a lot of fun. We made all this shot in one day and I was using the machine at less than 1/2 it's production capability. adding more tippets will increase production dramatically. I'm just one guy with a want to go shoot trap on the weekends, this machine (I believe) is for a group of people who want the savings of shotmaking. or a gun club for that matter. However, I figured that the sooner I get with shotmaking, the more I would reap the savings of it. Now the machine has paid for itself and all it cost me is time. Good shoot'en to ya Steve. Your Friend, Dave.

      That still works dude. better than buying it at road thieves prices. It's a huge dark day in Washingon dude, "They" passed I-1639, it is horrible legislation for gun owners. any semi-automatic is an assault rifle now 10-22 to an AR-15, doesn't matter, another victory for communism here in the NW. it also opens up Medical records to the State. and makes you liable if your gun is used in a crime, making you guilty of a crime. The Bloomberg's are rejoicing and the flag burns here in Washington State once again. Idk what else they can do other than Ban all firearms here to make it worse. we now have the most restrictive Gun Laws in the nation.

    How do you get the graphite to adhere to the shot? Not sure if I’m using too much, but when I reload there’s a black film all over the place including the inside of my nose.

    • @Thorsaxe777

      So far it hasn't cost me anything in the material. One thing you need to do is flux your material really good, get all the impurity out. this will help with the flow when it comes to temperature. also, casting small bars of material helps in keeping the machine going. I like the Magma Machine because of the stainless steel tippets it comes with, also the heat is adjustable to suit the material you're using. Making shot doesn't take much in the way of equipment, a simple melter can be homemade out of a cast iron pan and holes drilled in it for the tippets you want to use and a catch slide made of aluminum above the coolant, you can use a stump burner you can get at Harbor Freight for $20 is all the heat you need. you also need to engineer a stand so that the pan can be suspended. Just watch the way the Russians do it. anyway. I felt that life is too short and bought the Magma, they have always been good to me. Thanks again, Julio. Dave.

    Nice job Thor, I dont care about the naysayers. I'd be willing to bet you can smack down some dove. And its a hell of lot cheaper. Bags of shot are stupid expensive. I dont skeet or trap anymore, but clay targets for weekend fun and bird when in season. So its a cheaper way to go about it after the first investment. Keep on keeping on my brother👍

      I used to drink Yuban all the time, something changed with their process and it isn't the same anymore. I can't stand Folgers custom, breakfast, and half-caf roast, it tastes nasty along with some others that they make, Black silk is okay. Way back Folgers were just that,, Folgers.

    • @westcovinadodge
      @westcovinadodge 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thor's Axe I like my coffee like I like my women, lukewarm and bitter. I use the yuban cans for quenching brass when annealing, but the bottom of the can rusts.I use a thumblers tumbler for wet tumbleing but having a folgers liner for ball milling looks like a great idea. or maybe powder coating. So, I'll have my bitter little woman get me a can of black silk and give it a try, Nice to see you on the UJ test chat, Hope your mouth feels better. cheers.

    • @Thorsaxe777
      @Thorsaxe777  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just plain old range recovery material. I didn't add anything to it, I believe it is mostly wheel weights. You can bring up the hardness by adding linotype, However, I found that this stuff works just fine the way it is out at the range. People have been wanting me to pattern my shot, But here's the deal. I can adjust my shot pattern with choke tubes and so far I have been able to hit what I'm aiming at in 16-yard trap. Patterning it would not reveal any advantage.

    the ammomakers had a high tower to drop the dripple`s of lead in a cold water bassin. maybe a few meters if you have a second store higher ( fall tru a 10 inch pipe) would give even better shot, you need a deeper water barrel then.

    • @Thorsaxe777
      @Thorsaxe777  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, I have not seen any.. any difference in the hit ability of patterning due to shape of the shot. the shot goes through the choke,, How round is it then? also, lead will obturate and dimple out in a new shape due to exhilaration and inertia, again Now how round is it? Most shots in trap is taken at 20 to 35 yards from the trap house, the shot is perfectly adequate for that use. and may I add, most top shooters use this machine for their trap loads in non sanctioned matches. are they doing it wrong too?

    • @peteralexben
      @peteralexben 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thorsaxe777 no,
      but een round bal wil fly more predictable and give a better pattern.and the shot is most inside a plastic (biodegradable) shotcup ,so the choke does not harm the shot much. and round ball`s will go with much more ease tru the choke. because they can roll/flow away in eachother they dont hook up that much
      top shooters shoot with factory ammo at olympic or wk matches , shoot 24 gram (steel)loads and with that light load you want less flyers, that one gets with not round shot .extreme spread was made with cubical shot .browning fn i think made them .
      for training and hunting loads it does not matter much and is that home made shot perfect. yours

    • @peteralexben
      @peteralexben 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thorsaxe777 if you hunt with dogs. Or on a fire line with other hunters.you don t want pellets that. Are going random.out of the shooting direction. Flyers .and a flat side on a rond pellet. It will go out of the direction
