    I’ve a pair , 3 years old . Absolutely superb. And I’ve used them over heavy outings in the worst of Irish weather. Crossed streams , bogs , through wet grass and tracks . Never once have they let in water . Comfortable and tuff . I treat them with dubbin every other outing to keep the leather supple . Can’t go wrong with these 👌👌

    I've had a couple of pairs of these and really like them.
    Now, as to the "not suitable for steep ascents and rocky terrain" statement, I used these to go up Kilimanjaro. I will admit that you feel more rocks under your feet than in many other shoes, and you need to be used to that feeling. There was one day where I questioned my decision, but ultimately they were very comfy through the whole 8 day trip. I was super happy with them and my comfort/dryness level.

    Thanks for the videos. Can you point me in the direction of a leather boot that does not have a breathable membrane lining? I find lined footwear too hot outside of winter. Thanks

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't stock any non-membrane leather boots, but Meindl do produce a model called the Borneo which would be worth a look. Obviously it depends on how it fits, but it's a good starting point! Kind regards, Harry.

    Look at technology these days. I joined the Army (Australia) in 1980 and back then the American Vietnam surplus GP Boots were the standard issue. We were told to fully submerge them in hot water for several hours then put them straight on wet and wear them for the day to mould them to your feet. Have to say this seemed to work. Now days; straight out of the box.
    I'm studying all the reviews I can get on these boots and about the only main concern seems to be what the longevity will be, other than that I've not seen many scores below 9/10.
    I still have a pair of my issued GP's from around 84' ish I think, that are still wearable. Admittedly they were my parade pair and they didn't see a lot of bush back then until I got out and started using them for camping.
    The Scarpa's seem to fit the bill for my needs these days which is winter 4WDriving/Camping. I went over to the suede wheat coloured style military boots there for awhile but they just get too wet in damp conditions. I'm trying on a pair of the Scarpa's this avo at my local Macpac store.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure that the Scarpa's will suit your needs and unlike your old GP's they won't require pre-treatment for "breaking-in". Just make sure you get the correct fit. Thanks for watching. Paul.

    Great review, I am wondering why I sometimes see these advertised as Scarpa Men's Terra II GTX, I could not find 'Terra II' on the Scarpa website, I wasn't sure if it was a newer model or what was going on... do you have any idea?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simon. The Scarpa Terra did have an upgrade a few seasons ago and at that point they were often referred to as the Terra II. However the “II” suffix has been dropped and they’re now just known as the “Terra”. I hope that helps. Paul.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sophie. The Scarpa Tellus GTX is basically a Terra GTX with a bit of a face lift and a Nubuk leather upper. There will be little or no difference in the fit and it's all down to your choice of aesthetic. Paul.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terra - far more flexible, lighter and more suitable for general walking/easy to moderate terrain.
      Delta Activ - Stiffer, more supportive, heavier, suitable for trekking/backpacking, rougher terrain.
      As always though, I'd try both on if you can. Fit is quite different but very hard to express in writing. Harry

    • @trekitt

      Hi, the Scarpa Delta is a far more supportive and structured boot than the Terra and will therefore offer more support. But, both boots are suitable for "light Peak District summer walking" and the best one is the one that fits you correctly. Paul.

    You mentioned short distance - so would you recommend against using these for trekking Jakobsweg or el Camino de Santiago?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with those routes, but the Terra's aren't really suitable for trekking. They're too flexible and not quite as rugged as 'proper' trekking boots. I have a pair and use them for mainly dog walking and light hill use, but for anything where I'd be carrying a pack over 10kg, I'd consider something more supportive. Harry

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used mine for multi-day hiking trips in the UK mountains, but it does depend on what footwear you're used to and where you live. I definitely wouldn't recommend them for winter in the alps, for example.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you say that, as I've only recently come back from a trip to the Lakes while wearing these boots. They're absolutely fine on walking routes (Stickle Tarn, Harrison Stickle, Wansfell Pike, etc), but not so much for scrambling routes (Jack's Rake). Harry

      @@trekitt I can’t understand why you say they are no good for scrambling routes as I found them perfect when I done the ridges in skye and liatach and others . I found them easy on the feet and flexible rather than some of those stiff outrageous priced clumsy things that some retailers sell . I can’t understand that comment .

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevie3863 For scrambling routes you'd typically wear something like an approach shoe/b-rated boot with a relatively firm sole unit with sharp edges, allowing you to feel what's going on underfoot. The sharp edges of the outsole make it much easier when edging compared to the comparatively soft and rounded design of the Terras. The stiffness of a pair of b-rated boots allow you to attach crampons when ascending into snow/ice during colder months and the stiff design also means you're able to place the toe cap on an edge without the boot folding underneath you. You may well be able to wear the Terras for some scrambling routes, but I can't recommend them for scrambling as a whole.
