I'm so glad you guys are enjoying this series. With only 6 episodes per season there's no time for filler. The first 2-3 episodes gives us the chance to get to know the characters and set the narrative in place and then the pace of the storytelling escalates drastically from there making the remaining episodes of season 1 pretty eventful. Seasons 2-4 have a faster pace and they just get better and better.

You all forgot to mention that Tommy was one of Lizzie's clients, which John did not know and would never marry (or stay married to) Lizzie if he knew. That was another reason Tommy squashed the idea of John and Lizzie: prevent family drama

FYI The shirts that the Blinders wear in these earlier episodes with the thin collar is called a grandfather collar. They are worn in the first season to symbolise the working class nature of the family. But later in season 2-4 they wear normal collared shirts. But yeah, grandfather collars

here is a fail from the producers. about the gipsys: "They were speaking romanian in the show, but such a bad romanian it took me a while to even realize. The ironic thing is even if they were romanian roma, they wouldn't speak romanian. The roma (or gypsies) have their own language, and they will use that almost exclusively among themselves(especially the traveling type), or even in society most of the time, regardless what their country of origin is. Why they went with such a blatant discrepancy is beyond me, is not like this isn't a known fact, plus the languages are as different as you can get and sound nothing alike. There are gypsies of every nationality, why they keep going with the romanian ones is really absurd, and extremely unlikely."
oh and they haphazardly mix stuff about the Irish Travellers in their too. Beyond being insulting and probably racist against one of the groups in europe still enduring systemic hardship its like lazy and hamfistedly slamming totally unrelated cultures with hundreds of years of history together.
I don't mind the culture they conjure but in no way does it make clear that the world diverges from our own, especially considering the attempts at historical realism in the rest of the show. but Britain does have a decently long history about not trying very hard when making new or fictional cultures at not just assigning them a racist or classist stereotype - like warhammer orcs speaking with Cockney accents, or the goblins that run gringots just having every exaggerated stereotype for jews. There's a lot of shit like this out there that needs to be confronted.

@@Souledex You've never encountered an actual traveller or romani in the UK, have you? The lifestyle really isn't that disaccurately pictured. In fact, a group of travellers routinely camp near a disused factory in the local area and everything about them from the appearance to the wagons and horses are potrayed pretty damn well..
