I love how upset Tiff is for this. It's refreshing to see her Sal-isms.
The funny thing is there was an animated dr.strange movie from the mid to late 2000's that used Rachel? (May have had different name) But she was the reason why he became a doctor and when he failed to save her he became the asshole we know.
I miss Sal he may have been a very opinionated ghost but he's still cool with me

I like the what if story where Dr. Doom just cuts off Dr. Stranges broken hands and gives him robot hands.
I like that Slott, the writer of that story, ends it with Dr. Doom downloading his consciousness into Stephen Strange's body to become the Superior Sorcerer Supreme!

I heard plastic surgeron and I was like "WTF" for 2 minutes
Definitely one of my new favorite Back Issues. I've never seen Tiff talk about a book she hates, so this was so interesting to see. Suggestion (If Ben and Ethan haven't read it yet): Marvel 1602 as told by Tiffany.
Excellent, review, Tiff. As a fellow Strange fan, I can truly understand where you are coming from. This run left a bitter taste in my mouth. For starters, I HATE how Strange is a Plastic Surgeon. Forgive me, but I have an uncle who is a Neurosurgeon. He;s spoken to me in depth what it means to do Neurosurgery and how having your hands is crucial and how hard the position is. Strange being an arrogant Neurosurgeon makes sense because it represents he's talented and B how Strange loosing his hands actually matters. The idea of the Nexus and Strange being the "One" as you put it is DUMB!
Strange learning to use magic and earning the title of Sorcerer Supreme makes sense because A) He screwed up as a Surgeon and B) Magic is the means to which he ultimately redeems himself and can do what he failed to do as a doctor.. And combined with Clea, Wong and Mordo who are so one-note in this comic and the bad pacing, this comic isn't very good.
As an Andendum, there are two aspects I actually like in this comic. One, is the metaphysical, higher plane stuff in this comic. I love that aspect as it represents that magic is like an awakening of sorts. Something the new film definitely borrowed and I'm happy. And two, The magic itself is cool. I like how they create weapons from energy. It makes sense via manipulation of energy.
But it sucks that Strange NEVER says any of alliterations. By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth, how can anyone not do that?!

So Sal's a ghost, huh. I also take it that Back Issues was created as a way of helping Sal's soul find peace and move on into the Afterlife by fulfilling his dream of getting his friends just about as into comics as he was before he died, right? Cool.
Steel Legionnaire nope it the opposite back issue is a way for his spirit to stay on earth because all his angst against comic book mishap
The movies version of the orgin story is so much better, guys.

Somehow I missed this episode. Great one, seeing a Dr Strange fan rip a version in such a way.
I think this is the origin of the ultimate version of Doctor Strange instead of the original
2 minutes in and there's a problem in the book that is in the movie,that dr.strange review is gonna be good.

If you guys get tje chance, maybe cheack out JMS's supreme power series, which is a re imagining of marvels resident Justice League knockoffs the Squadron Supreme. Its rather messed up, almost like JMS wanted to try and be Garth Ennis. If nothing else it would provoke some hilarious reactions on the couch.
JMS does one of the best Amazing Spider-man runs, and 3 great volumes of Thor.

I understand how someone who is a hardcore fan of Dr. Strange wouldn't like this book. I get annoyed when something i really like gets completely changed. but as someone who is just a casual Dr Strange fan, this story was sorta cool. :P

***SPOILERS From The Movie***
I feel like the movie drew a surprising amount from JMS's series, but changed the criticisms here. In fact, if this video came out a year and a half ago, I'd probably argue the movie was specifically addressing these criticisms.
The opening of the third eye seemed to be in the movie but Doctor Strange doesn't immediately learn what he needs to or change as a person. Instead, time is devoted to doing it right. Same with (even bigger spoilers) the passing of the torch with the Ancient One's death. It doesn't feel like Doctor Strange knows everything or gets unearned power, but there is still that passing of a mantle. Even the Sanctum Santorum belonged to the Ancient One's group, but it wasn't their main headquarters. I feel there are others, but I want to be careful with spoilers so I'll stop there.
You would think Ethan wouldn't be a comic book noob no more after all these years but he has not changed in 6 years lmao. Ethan is the best

THANK you Zubes, for voicing my long-held disdain over this abomination of an attempted retcon.
What you didn't mention is that JMS had been hinting at a solo Doctor Strange mini for months, when he was writing Amazing Spider-Man. If you recall, he had Spidey go to Doc for help a few times during the course of his run, and every time he cut away from Strange, there'd be an editor box that would announce "THIS will be REVEALED in a soon-to-come Doc mini series - called 'THE OTHER SIDE OF DEATH'."
BUT that mini never came.
THEN, at the end of Spider-Man (300? I forget the issue) after Doc helps Spider-Man fight his way BACK through time (after Spidey screwed up a spell Doc was casting against Dormammu), Doc screwed with time enough to resurrect Baron Mordo (who was dead before this) and Mordo then says that since Doc played with TIME, now Mordo could take Doc BACK to his beginnings and redo it all in a way that would lessen Strange.
Thus, this Matrix rip off was published.
and it IS a Matrix ripoff, because JMS started I an interview that "everybody thinks Neo is so cool, but Neo can't do anything that DOC can't do, so they'll love Doc if they can see him in that be light" (paraphrase).
BUT he screwed the whole story up horrifically, as YOU pointed out beautifully!
