Always loved JVM's setup set at Twilo before S&D came on. Used to get to the club by 10PM Jimmy would start the mix after a few shots and gin& tonics, start to get into it the darkness and sounds just took over dance floor would be empty and slowly start getting packed. Miss those days.
damn i'm so jealous of you! lol. Never got to Twilo even though I live in PA. Leave it to me to see S&D in San Fran on a work trip! it was about '02 or '03...still the best set i've ever witnessed. amazing days back then man

Saw JVM open for S&D at Delta Heavy, and I appreciated how he started off really slow (tempo-wise) and slowly built a set from there. All other opening DJs only seem to want to make names for themselves by playing so hard.
this one by JVM and Chris Fortier's Bedrock 2 Disc set are two of the best sets from that era. Period. It's like a musical journey through House/Trance/Progressive, so much emotion and style. We don't have shit like the early 00's and I want it back, so...fucking...bad!

Yeah, 100%. I appreciate opinions are always subjective and based on the world you're in at the time, but I always thought the era around 1998 (melodic, uplifting) and then again around 2002 (dark and hypnotic) were amazing times.
One of the most atmospheric, eerie, ominous, transcendent roller coaster rides I can recall hearing in the form of an album (much less a mix cd). When I think of my struggle with depression through high school and the experiences with friends that gave me brief reprieve during those times I immediately think of this album.

yeah, this release really has a lot with depression..cause it is depression itself..while one is in depression, i don't know, maybe it's possible to enjoy such mix, when you're healthy - it's simply unreal..trust me, it's no roller coaster, it's the bottom of an ocean..hella dark n hella boring..
This CD reminds me my first approaches to electronic music. When I was a kid I used to listen a radio station until 2 a.m. they used to play music like this.

One badass Dark, Heart Pounding, Laser Trip through space. Shattering meteors, trailblazing galaxy's faster than any comet. What honor for those of us in the know. Jimmy, Wherever you are..Thank You on behalf of every fiber of my being in melody bliss. Apparently circuit breaker was meant to be mixed with heavy fluid because that is one of the coolest transitions i've ever heard.

i wish there were a lot more Bedrock mixes from this era other than Jimmy Van M & Chris Fortier. i think Digweed has a 2 disc set but not sure. you're right it's fucking awesome.
Heard him do this at Twilo probably my first or second time there in 2000-2001. Was just learning the music and the DJs back then. Always loved electronic music. But this shit hit different. Amazing.

One of the first "mixes" I ever heard, living in Indiana, where this kind of music was hard to come by, and I fell in love. It's still hard to find its equal. I bought the 2 disc set way back when (when did this come out??) and it's saved on 2 hard drives. I hope to always have it.

Really slick mix, remember it well. Slow the BPM down a little and many of the tracks wouldn't sound particularly dated either.
Ad after 8 mins? No point listening. One of my favourite mixes ever though.

My first exposure to Deep House was this 2CD set.
this is prog not deep
This one take a little while to get going but around the half way point it really takes off with some great tracks and great mixes. EDIT: after listening to both of these after all these years, I think that taking the first half or so of CD 2 and then mixing in CD 1 when Control of Sound starts up would make for a better mix than either of CD 1 or 2 by themselves. This one is kind of boring until Control of Sound and CD 2 gets a bit worse after the Quiver song.

from this era you gotta check out anything from Chris Fortier...including HIS Bedrock mix! slick! also anything from Global Underground's 'Nubreed' from early 2000's is real dark, tribal and progressive.
i have heard more than 200-300 official prog house comp/mixes from 1999-2004 (which is the time window where this genre kicked ass) and the following are my best picks , go check them out
