Recently bought a slightly ropey 9000 with a bliwn head gasket for 300 euro's, to have something to fiddle with during lockdown. ('94 CSE 2.3t manual with Sunroof. 😄 ) The spec was the reason i bought it, It just had to be saved imo. Rebuild the head, new timing chains etc mounted. And its back on the road now. Truly amazed at how over-engineerd the 9000 actually is. A lot if saab-ists say its not a 'real' saab. But if you ask me, the 9000 might actually be the Saabiest Saab there is.
It is the best. Had a 9000 Aero…the best of all of them. Absolute juggernaut on the highway. The only car I’ve ever driven where the corners come AT you.
The 9000 floorpan is very much NOT the same as the others, it was meant to be but the thema was so awful in a crash that Saab altered the chassis to be stronger and also much safer, that's why it was so expensive
I remember this car the Saab CDE - It was a Saab UK Press Car. I sold it to a customer who lived in York. F300RAN - The BBC kindly donated the video to the customer. It was a tool in its day, and the sound system was awesome, 9spks 300 Watts an additional £1500 !! Hard to tell in the video but the leather is actually dark blue, from Bridge Of Weir leather. I had a very nice drive to York in this car when I was delivering it to the customer.
The Alfa being the best looking one? What the hell.. just because they made two good looking cars doesnt mean that they all are. Saab was the most reliable one, and best looking for sure.
THE ALFA 164 WAS INDED THE BEST LOOKNIG ONE AMONG THE TRIO. I OWNED BOTH THE 9000 AND THE 164. ONLY WHEN THE SAAB CAME TO 1991 WITH ITS CS 5-DR MODEL THAT ITS STYLING CAME CLOSER TO THAT OF THE ALFA, BUT BY THEN, ALFA CAME OUT WITH THE SECOND GENERATION 164, THE 164 24v.
I can't say it any better. Just beat some big merican "muscle" cars in a 96 cse with nothing more than a new intercooler, ecu upgrade, and 3 in exhaust.

Saab had to manage US crach tests, Lancia not
I wonder if Saab's exact words really were "not good at all", as claimed in Top Gear's Saab tribute.
@@fortune300 Saab was always anal on safety, well ahead of anyone’s crash tests.

He said: best looking ENGINE.
Meanwhile in America all the executive cars were massive floaty v8 powered yachts.
