      Too bad Caruana didn't see the right rook move, he could've had another win, and who knows what would've happened in the next games. Maybe he'd have a perfect tournament, eh? :D

    Until 10.Qd2, Jerry, the narrator, gave a very instructional about the Maroczy bind in the open Sicilian. -12. ...Bf6 is a good exemple on how to place responsably a minor piece in front of a pawn. Nice draw between these young experts.

    Hey Jerry, I'm starting a chess club soon at my college and i was wondering what program you are using for this video. Do you recommend a better program in which i can move the pieces freely? Feedback would be much appriciated, Thanks and keep on playing chess, your videos help me out a lot :).

    Could you make a video about the vancouver defence (like seen in the Carlsen - Aronian game)?
    Thanks in advance!

    Jerry, what do you think of Caruana with respect to how he'll measure up to Carlsen? Is he just having a good tournament? Will he challenge Carlsen (or Anand) for the next World Championship? I'd like to hear your thoughts!

    at 19:40 when you faked us out with the apparent queen trade and instead placed it for a check. You may have done that on purpose, but i legitimately thought it may just be second nature for you to go for a queen trade as if you were actually playing this haha.

    Caruana had a much better position IMO. I don't know why he castled, Ke2 was a more aggressive move. Also, going to the seventh like Jerry pointed was strong too.

      Yeah! I was surprised too. Ke2 connecting immediately the couple white rooks. White attack vs the black king should be irresistible.

    a escape from a losing position by Carlsen - as often seen. Incredible performance by Caruana whose live rating went up 35 points by now with a performance of over 3100 in the strongest tournament ever - never seen something like this

    great game & analysis here. The accel is my favorite 'go-to' in the sicilian. I know it's ideas well, and I can say that 10 a4 was not a novelty, but a much more modern idea in the gurgendize (sp) maroczy variation. Usually black will instead put the queen on a5, and to aim for B5 expansion typically; as you mentioned in video. However, seeing carlsen playing the gurgendize w/ A pawn expansion opting for b2 and even a4 outposts makes me re-evaluate ;)

    Be6 violates the rule of not blocking center pawns with pieces. Why is this justified in this case Jerry? I mean, when amateurs attempt such a maneuver, they are usually punished for blocking a center pawn. Are there any generalities which can be stated where blocking a center pawn with a bishop is best?

    • @bookle5829
      @bookle5829 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be6 on what position?

    • @TheLassolas
      @TheLassolas 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be6 is justified in dragon type position (Bg7 and semi open c file), firstly you don't want to push the e pawn for the moment because d6 would be a permanent weakness as in this game so it is ok to put you bishop here, secondly it's typical to put pressure on the c4 pawn as the c file is semi-opened (following with Rc8 type of move, like Qb8, Rfc8), and finally if you put you bishop on d7, the Night on f6 will never maneuver to the queen side or to e5 where it has a great outpost looking to c4 again. At chess there are always exceptions to generic rules, especially in the sicilian defense :P

    • @bookle5829
      @bookle5829 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, whoops. I didn't read the comment carefully. *facepalm* :P

    • @bookle5829
      @bookle5829 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, this is what I think.
      Let's think about why you shouldn't block the center pawn? Let's think about the center pawn. We should control the center usually with the knights and the center pawns. So that means, if we block the center pawns, they can's become, like, an attacking piece or something, a piece that controls the center.
      More importantly, If we block the center pawn, the bishop can't get out. And the rooks won't get connected.
      But in this position, it's a different story. The bishop has been fienchetto and the king has castled. You wanna move the pawn? What about e5? After e5, the d5 square has weaken and the knight can make use of the square. e6? You're blocking the bishop.
      That's what my opinion is.

    Any reason why Carlson couldn't use the aforementioned tactic on move twelve with 12. ... Nxe4, hitting the rook with the discovered attack? Seems like a Rook for a Knight and Pawn is acceptable if not desired.

      Portable Game Notation, it's how chess moves are written down. For example 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4, etc.

      its basically a way to see the moves in written form....its basically if you wanted to input the game on your own chess engine and see all the best moves and stuff...or if you wanted to just go over the game yourself without watching this video of course.

    caruana was wise enough to avoid double edged position in the end and secure a draw and win the tournament. it would be awesome to see him win both games against carlsen, but oh well. that castling move by white really puzzled me, at first glance it seems as though it weakens the position considerably, obviously not.

  • @rfgust
    @rfgust 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Caruana could've won, but it aint any easy to play against Carlsen, and beside that, the norwegian has a great skill for drawing with black

  • @morislora3741

    I can't believe Caruana didn't see he had to move the f1 rook. It doesn't even look like a deep calculation to see that the knight will take that c pawn.
