Really impressed by the use of historical figures like Charles Laganne, who are so minor, they don't even have an english wikipedia entry. Shows how much they actually cared, not just taking the first people that come to mind.

May I ask how you're familiar with the characters? I feel like I should know more about France in this time period than I do.
@@Kandecid Mike Duncan's French Revolution season on the Revolutions podcast and his book on the Marquis de Lafayette ("Hero of Two Worlds") are two pretty easy-to-"read" overviews of the French Revolution. I particularly like the Lafayette book: I love reading about those cosmopolitan historical figures that seem like they had a hand in pretty much every important political event that happened in their lifetime.

The shuffle doesn’t work, man gets super suss, a guy literally just shows up to the table accusing you of being a cheat, doesn’t play a single round himself, and then you frame him for cheating LOL

I mean yeah. You don't have to be playing to help someone cheat for a cut.
Plus I think the idea was you could play a few rounds before backing out. But nl was so sused out he had to leave making it weird when they called him out for cheating

I do enjoy NL playing story games that aren't just walls of text. Gives him plenty of hooks for banter (which are usually better than chat. No offence, chat)

bridged cards are reliant upon the mark being unaware of the con - EVERYONE who is unaware will cut the deck at the bridge because the deck naturally cuts there. It's the same principle as if you grabbed a handful of candies and one of the candies is barely clinging on; you dont remove that candy because "You didn't grab it with intent"; it's just part of the group.
It's all based upon people taking moves for granted. You don't think about cutting a deck, just as much as you don't think about someone grabbing their beer bottle by the neck, then by the top of the label, then the bottom of the label, then gripping the whole bottle - yet that's 4 distinct signals.
Yeah, but cutting the deck is supposed to be a way to prevent cheating, so wouldn't having an obvious place where the deck cuts push you towards wanting to cut it in another unobvious place?

I honestly love these videos. The banter, the gameplay, the content as a whole is just 10/10.
Really interesting and well made game.
They could of had.more mechanics. Sacrifice gold to lower sus meter. Making it a close game giving him a ace king and the others a ace queen so they don't feel they got cheated but lost fairly. The fact you can get away with giving them the same exact cards and mother fuckee pulls out pocket aces 3 times I a row. Idc you only played 4 matches and ran.

keep in mind, the mouse controls are fumbly as shit right now. im normally not one to defend NL's playing because while it is pog it is often frustrating, but this is a CORE problem with the mouse and keyboard set-up, so it's a large chance that early fumble was not his fault. he did it successfully before, in practice,after all.
@@kalithoulouse2231 While this is true, even assuming the controls were tight and perfect he was doing the wrong motion (side to side, or repeatedly up and down , when the correct motion is one slow continuous movement straight up) and starting on a delay after the left half of the deck falls (as opposed to starting at the same time, and just shuffling the right half more slowly so it ends a little later).
he did it "successfully" in practice and even he said it looked jank (a side effect of starting the right half late, which makes the person you're cheating suspicious) and had forgotten the motion by the time it was put into use after practice.
this game is such a neat concept where the immersion is instantly ruined by the fact that there is no way in hell anyone is being fooled by any of that
some of the simpler ideas could be assembled into a fruitful strategy. I think the most significant thing is, unlike a video game, it would obviously be best to not win every time.
A lot of the problem, especially like during that baths scene, is that the game didn't foresee NL's gameplay being so absolutely scuffed
You’d be surprised. For example, in the yugioh community, the indented cut is a real thing, as well as the false ruffle shuffle. The people that do this practice a lot to make it look very natural. And even with a bit of practice you can do the ineffective shuffle.
Obviously the game makes it more obvious for the player, but in reality, people who do this have a lot more skill in making it look real

The bricked riffles and bungled cuts kill even harder than the ditches in Mon Bazou
False riffles are usually used for only a card or two. You'll also want to give it at least one false shuffle while maintaining the top stack, so you "loose" the top card to avoid sus. There's a way to shuffle a single card to the top of the deck without looking sus, the stack he wants just isn't really possible.
