Utroll They're showing their progress at every step. From the most basic grey models to the finalizing bugfixing process. That's what makes Star Citizen stand out from most games. Community feedback is what drives it and what is ensuring that it becomes a good game. If this process was more prevalent we might have been able to prevent certain disasters like Destiny and actually make them decent. Also Squadron 42 is due release in 2016 so I don't know where you got the clearly exaggerated 5-year figure from.

Mass effect's first couple of demos only showed conversations and interactions. This demo is even earlier in development than those demos are. IF you want to see real game play look up persistent universe gameplay and arena commander gameplay. those are prototype test beds for the developing gameplay components.

Followed this games development very closely as a hopeful but skeptical gamer. 6 ships in the hanger later I have no regrets in being a patron of this games development. Its all starting to come together. The major turning point that this game has arrived will be when the PU and multi crew ships are flyable. I am so stoked for this game but now I have to find the $6000 to build an uber PC that can do this game full justice.
procletnic I think you will find the average Star Citizen backer has already spent well past 3 k on a PC. The game is still in alpha and people are already using this half developed game as a bench marking application because its that brutal on most PCs. It's no Elite Dangerous for graphics.

Phillip Mulligan I actually now use a 48inch 4K tv. Works fantastic as a monitor for gaming & tbh i could see almost no difference between it and my Acer monitor. The most expensive component was my GPU at £600 but by shopping around i got a deal on the ram mobo and CPU for £350 leaving £250 for case H100 cooler and power supply Monitor i picked up for £350 in the January sales, but have since sold it as my tv works so well. And yeah the tax is a MAJOR pain.. 20% vat on all sales plus various other taxs. In total i paid around £300 in tax alone.
The thing that stands out about this the most to me having only watched some minutes in, - the characters seem very real and full of character, the animations are pretty good too! However the textures look a little watered down but that is probably somewhat to do with streaming qualities.

In technical terms, this is gameplay since there is no cutscene and the player is still in control. There's probably a mission of sorts another 5 minutes after this small preview ended, where they went to a station or something and shot your bad guys or traded commodities. Coming from someone who loves Elite Dangerous, I'm looking forward to getting a scripted campaign like this in Star Citizen, while the Elite-like multiplayer lies in the Persistent Universe. Any harsh critiquing should be reserved for when the game is out of Alpha/Beta.

Star Citizen, on the other hand, started out in 2012 with a small team of 6 people and a hastily put together tech demo video to showcase what the vision for the game is. The kickstarter project started in October of that year, and every since then, the company has used it's crowdfunding resources to expand and build up assets so that they may work on the game. The company has grown to multiple studios across many continents, each tasked with a different aspect of the game, with over 300 employees (both internal and contracted) hired over time. They've had to heavily customize the Cryengine 3 game engine so that it was better suited for developing the game. At the same time, they have remained pretty open to what's going on with the game, where the resources are going, what the rough patches have been and where the delays will occur. And best of all, we've been able to play and test multiple aspects of the game through out the years, starting with the Hangar Module, then the recer module, then the Arena Commander, and finally the Persistent Universe test, allowing us to first hand experience the development of the game and enjoy it's multiple features. All that before we had even hit the 4 year mark since the game was announced. So, have some patience, follow the developement of the game if you're interested, and try the pre-alpha demo while you wait for the release (especially since they always have week long free looks where you can test the game out without purchasing a package). Or, if this is not your cup of tea, then there's plenty of great games that could take up your time while you wait for the release of this game.

Dude.... Welcome to every game development ever! If you didn't know, there's not a single game out there that doesn't miss deadlines and get pushed back. The only reason that we are normally not aware of this is because the process is usually closed to the public. Simply because you threw a huge chunk of money at them doesn't change the replies of game development. It's like saying "hey, if it takes one mother to make a baby in 9 months, that means 9 mothers will make a baby in 1 month!"
Also, yes, parts of the game, or modules, we're delayed, but there was a legitimate reason for the delay, and the modules have come out better than promised, with more features implemented and showing us a better vision of what the final game will turn out to be.
The whole video is just a little bit sketchy, of course IT IS Alpha. Altogether I could see how the character-npc interaction could be extremely charming. Also, am I the only one that absolutely loves all of the interesting accents, I like trying to figure out which country merged with which country just based on their accents. The engineer who's your companion in this video gives me a kind of Russian/UK-English vibe- hinting at what might have happened in the 900 years between present day and Star Cit?
if you are a pilot, flying all the expensive space birds, you are obviously an officer. If you are an officer, then this little lady in the landing bay was quite desrespectful WHAM "When you talk to an officer, you say sir." anyway, if the main engineer is Scottish, nothing can go (terribly) wrong
That's the Argo utility ship. Although it has no quantum drive my guess is it will probably have a supercruise mode so that it can act as a transport between planet surface and space for large vessels like the Idris which are too large to land on planets.
I sure hope that there's a ton of optimizations and model art improvements coming because right now it's very rough. Animations are very stuttery and the faces look like something out of the dark ages compared to other games out now (Witcher 3, Halo 5, etc etc). I'm sure there's more to come but right now, very rough.

+Dan Bayfield Unfortunately, the tech from LA Noir doesn't really hold up that well now. Yes, it was ground breaking back then, but now, it's actually really creepy. Granted, the demo they showed today doesn't look that great either, but since this is still pre-alpha, I will reserve judgement until closer to the release date of the actual game. If it'll be anywhere near as good as the trailer they showed of Mark Hamill's character or of Gary Oldman, then I will be very happy and impressed.
Maybe that's just a problem I have but in every single bit of Star Citizen footage (either from TH-camrs or like this from CIG themselves), the game looks headache inducingly blurry and washed out. It's like an excessive motion blur combined with really low frame rates and low contrast colors. Plus the sound is always mixed in a way that seem equally washed out. It's really unpleasant to watch and so far, it's kept me from purchasing a game package. Does anyone else see this problem or can anyone make a comment about how this is ingame? Maybe it's just the footage that's been fucked through the many compression cycles it goes through before landing on my screen.

Also, am I the only one that absolutely loves all of the interesting accents, I like trying to figure out which country merged with which country just based on their accents. The engineer who's your companion in this video gives me a kind of Russian/UK-English vibe- hinting at what might have happened in the 900 years between present day and Star Cit?

That's the Argo utility ship. Although it has no quantum drive my guess is it will probably have a supercruise mode so that it can act as a transport between planet surface and space for large vessels like the Idris which are too large to land on planets.

I sure hope that there's a ton of optimizations and model art improvements coming because right now it's very rough. Animations are very stuttery and the faces look like something out of the dark ages compared to other games out now (Witcher 3, Halo 5, etc etc). I'm sure there's more to come but right now, very rough.

+Brian Chapman The gameplay is trough streaming, and cryengine doesn't support it very well. Add Twitch quality, and I was recording over Twitch, so I think that's the answer.

+Dan Bayfield Unfortunately, the tech from LA Noir doesn't really hold up that well now. Yes, it was ground breaking back then, but now, it's actually really creepy. Granted, the demo they showed today doesn't look that great either, but since this is still pre-alpha, I will reserve judgement until closer to the release date of the actual game. If it'll be anywhere near as good as the trailer they showed of Mark Hamill's character or of Gary Oldman, then I will be very happy and impressed.
Maybe that's just a problem I have but in every single bit of Star Citizen footage (either from TH-camrs or like this from CIG themselves), the game looks headache inducingly blurry and washed out. It's like an excessive motion blur combined with really low frame rates and low contrast colors. Plus the sound is always mixed in a way that seem equally washed out. It's really unpleasant to watch and so far, it's kept me from purchasing a game package.
Does anyone else see this problem or can anyone make a comment about how this is ingame? Maybe it's just the footage that's been fucked through the many compression cycles it goes through before landing on my screen.
