Gosh, this was always the standout from Prequelle for me. This song, lyrically, to me (and from what I've read Tobias say about it) is similar tonally to Zombie by The Cranberries. About perspective, and reflecting on while we are all living comfortably others are suffering. It is a profound, albeit, uneasy thing to reflect upon, but this song is very powerful in my opinion. It may seem somewhat simple structurally, but lyrically it has a lot of emotional depth.
One of my favorites for them, and especially on the album. This song was actually one of the most well recieved from the album by the fanbase and spurred the band to begin playing it live. A sleeper hit that I doubt Tobias expected to become so popular with the fans. Great song.

I always took this as the best song from prequelle. Saw them live twice still haven't heard it live ....yet.
It was the song I noticed right away on the album. Rats was the exciting track bc of teasers we got but this song was the one that really got me excited bc I knew this album was going to really grow on me. And it did. It is a fantastic album. Best from the year in metal/rock in my opinion.

The guy sell his soul to satan to get life eternal. The wife dies in the black plague spread from the Rats. The last dance was Dance Macabre. The whole album needs to be listened to from start to finish to understand.

It’s a Plague Doctor, not Egyptian god.
Me and my kids have always done concerts together. Been doing it since they were little. We went to see Ghost in concert had front row seats. They were great and if you ever see him in person he's such a clown, he loves joking with the audience. It was crazy because you're looking at him one way and he's like a stand up comedian. He was so nice he have my son a goodie bag with a poster, a glass candle and some other stuff. I can't wait to see them again. And the entire audience was having blast its like one big family having a party.
I'm pretty sure the "official" video for this song does not exist. As for the meaning, Tobias stated that it's applicable to modern world problems. Many people go about their easy lives, whilst war, famine, pestilence (the plague in this case since the whole album is about that), etc destroys much of the world...but death(personified as the singer) is inevitable and comes for us all.
I've seen the video that they watched. It was made by some guy who played the plagie doctor and spliced in the final scene from the VVitch

I am not here to argue theology- i’m here for Ghost-but I always resented the frankly manipulative scare tactic of an idea that if you aren’t totally onboard with everything in scripture or an outspoken christian, you’re a sinner. I despise the idea that everyone is born evil, as well. It’s insulting to the potential of humanity, and basically means that people can’t be good without doing what “we” (we being the church or whoever influences your religious teaching) tells you to do. I firmly believe that if God is out there, he has nothing to do with the Bible, and he’d be disgusted with how cultish and manipulative it all is.

We aren't born Evil, we are born with original Sin (Immoral acts against divine law) Angels must obey God, they don't have free will. Adam and Eve ate the fruit and obtained free will. They didn't do anything evil but they sinned by betraying God's command, the first sin, the original sin. We are born with free will, but if we can prove throughout our life that we can obey God then he will let us into heaven as an angel, that's about it. Although I don't believe in it, I think a lot of people take it a bit out of context.

By Christian logic, babies born in regions where they are never exposed to Christianity, or where it has no large sway on things, are all going to be tortured in fire for all eternity through no fault of their own, simply because they didn't believe in a specific religion. By contrast, an unrepentant child molester needs only be a devout believer and all will be forgiven.

Adam and Eve used their free will to partake of the fruit despite the fact they were told not to and thus had their immortality revoked because a being with free will, the knowledge of good and evil, and immortality is too close to being gods themselves. That and them choosing to defy what they were told (which, if God is supposed to be omniscient, shouldn't he have already known that was going to happen and why did he put the tree there in the first place?) is what caused "the fall of man". Is that not what Genesis actually tells?

Which is true.
Sin translates to immoral or unethical acts. Which outside from a biblical perspective is objectively true. Add them together and you have divine law which we are already at a deficit of.
Think binary. Either a 1 or a 0. We are born a 0. Either you die a 0 or you die a 1.

top 5 Ghost song for me and probably top song from Prequelle. The chorus is fantastic. Such a great hook.
Skimming through the comments, didn't see this correction so I'll pop it in, the "anubis" figure was a plague doctor. They wore tightly wrapped, heavy clothes and that bird shaped mask. The beak of the mask was stuffed with herbs to protect against the miasma (poisoned air from the sick) which was thought to be one of the ways sickness spread. Thanks for the videos you two! Ya'll do great work!
And miasma is a track on the album too obviously and it makes sense that when papa nihil comes up for the nice sax solo the fog comes up bc miasma is a vapor or smell in the dictionary.
The album is about the plague. So that should be where you start. The costume is a plague doctor.

the color of the horse is withe because the withe one is from the plague, and this album is all about the black plague, so it is death, but death by sickness from the plague, you can see cardinal copia in a withe horse on the "Rats" video reffering to that as well.
I thought this song overall was about witch burnings and the wicked philiosophy behind it.

I used to be weirded out by the thought of my body rotting in a hole, but now I've embraced it. It's a part of nature and it's beautiful. From your earthly remains, new life can sprout, what's left of you providing nourishment for that new life. In that way, even though I don't really believe in an afterlife, I still kind of get one. Decay is an extant form of life. I want a green burial. No chemicals, minimal coffin or just a shroud if allowed, plant some native flora on top and call it done.
This is one of my top 5 favorite Ghost songs. But it is really hard to only have 5, there might be a total of 5 I don't like out of all of the albums. They are very underrated, and so very talented.

If I'm not mistaken the theme of this entire album is death, but from different perspectives. The ones experienceing it all the way to death himself and I find that very fascinating. I love this song. "between me and the deep blue sea" is such a cool line. Also, if no one else has pointed it out, "while you sleep in earthly delights" is a reference to The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymous Bosh.
One of the most underrated songs on the record Tobias is just an absolute genius when it comes to writing catchy hooks that you want to sing to but still makes it heavy as well it has no lyrics but Miasma from the same record would be worth checking out

Eh, a god who thinks being a good person (IE: not causing your fellow creatures undue harm and helping them when you can) isn't enough to not be tortured for eternity isn't one I really care for. I don't believe in really any god or goddess, and especially not the Abrahamic God, but if you could somehow prove to me that this God was THE GOD, I really don't think I'd want much to do with him tbh.

You should check out Belzebubs, "Blackened Call" and "Cathedral of Mourning". I highly, highly recommend viewing the official music videos due to the fact that they are like other fictional bands like Prozzak and Gorrilaz where they are depicted as comic book characters.
Based on the order of the songs on this album I always saw Pro Memoria and Witch Image story of a man who is constantly told by the devil that remember you'll die don't you forget that. So he sells his soul for immortality then meets somebody who he loves and is watching them grow older and dying so he tries to buy it back and is told "what is done can't be undone and what you have sold can't be unsold" and Life Eternal could be hundreds of years later and he is still saying that persons name and letting them know that he remembers them and he will do that forever and because he is immortal he has forever and he is asking if they can hear and see him so they know he remembers them. Maybe they are the only person he has ever loved in his lifetime.
Ghost's rendition of "It's a Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys is pretty awesome. Y'all should check it out.

Great album! I got stuck on Faith while I was doing time but now I’m free and got the whole thing. First Ghost record ever but glad I got it! It really has a nice flow to it.
I saw these guys open for Iron Maiden, I have been hooked since They are one of the few Opening acts that I have seen, that I have found to be worth liking. Speaking of Maiden I would love to see you guys listen to Remememebr Tomorrow, Sea Of Madness, or Still LIfe.

I believe it is a metaphor for inevitable death and the struggle that all others including yourself go through. Vut you avoid or overlook it in the midst of all your privilege. Its the death that people percieve as bad or the evil grim reaper or the devil. Its how people recieve rhe subtle messages from god. But behind all the clnfusion and mystery, the lord is calling you back. The lord is welcoming you home. The lord is trying to let you except things amd tell you that he has a plan and if you are dying then its normal for all of us and to stop avoiding him and have a reationshio with him. Or the grim reaper/death, its neutral becauee our life is pergatory and death can oversee that and brings you out of it when its your time to leave and either you have been positive and viewed it as great and looked forward to meeting again with god and gave your life to christ and were ready to face that one day and ended up in heaven or you viewed it negatively and and you ended up unknowingly selling your soul and going to hell where y dont belong. And i put together this complex thought while eating chips on my couch listening to my chemical romance and overthinking anything and everything and even this whole comments reason for being typed. ADHD for short(also a tool fan so I’ve also looked into very lateral lyrics no pun intended for lateralus)
