I’m from California and went to Chicago with some friends a few years ago. We decided to go to Fontera for dinner because we all are fans of Rick Bayless. The restaurant was crazy busy and we were told there would be at least a half hour wait. I decided to get a margarita at the bar while we waited and asked the Bartender if Rick was around and mentioned we were visiting from California. The bartender said Rick was at the restaurant earlier but thought he left. 5 minutes later we were seated at a table downstairs with no other diners around. When our food came Rick came to our table and asked if we were enjoying our time there. He sat at our table for a few minutes later. He’s the best!
I went to Frontera Grill 2 years ago. The food was a revelation but the most amazing thing for me was seeing Rick Bayliss walk through the restaurant. I about lost my mind but no one else seemed to notice. I asked our waiter about it and he said it wasn’t an unusual occurrence. I’ve been to several “celebrity chef” restaurants but Frontera Grill was the only one I’ve been to where that celebrity chef was on site. Thank you, Chef Bayliss, for making what was already an outstanding meal even more special!
I guess? It's classic cultural appropriation, but sure, he has respect for the FOOD... that said, I'm grateful there is a Frontera at the airport, for the times one actually wants decent food while waiting for a plane. There's no arguing with the quality.
Never knew either personally except for what I've seen on TV but Rick seems the more down to earth and stable of the two brothers. Credit to him for realizing he had issues and working on his issues throughout his life.
@@acrophobe it’s crazy because they’re both in their 70s Rick has a daughter I think and they’ve lost their sister and parents they’re all they have left and just because they didn’t share interests as teenagers doesn’t mean they can’t be close they can both relate to being public figures
They obviously have things in common. For 2 guys to become public figures by having two completely different jobs shows that they have a similar drive to be successful and they both stay in good physical shape. Growing up in Oklahoma, I've always been more of a fan of Rick and his calm demeanor, but I know people who are still good friends with Skip and they claim that he is a good dude.
Worked with Rick during my time at NECI. He is an old soul, with incredible taste and energy. His staff channels him with their attentive and generous service. Rick Bayless is a legend for a reason.
@@joearmstrong3866 I wouldn't say that. Skip is a bitter and angry man. He has said unkind things about Rick. Rick has more class in his pinky finger that Skip will ever have.
Rick Bayless is my inspiration for cooking authentic Mexican dishes. I used to only make Tex mex stuff and I found his TH-cam channel a few years back and now it’s extremely rare we eat Tex mex and even rarer to not eat one of his dishes at least weekly.
Sir Charles probably LOVES Rick. Nice guy, cooks barbecue, FANTASTIC. Hates Skip. Has no relationship with him, EVEN BETTER, infact, GREAT! I love Charles! I'm sure he'd love Rick! I watched Rick's cooking show! It was wonderful! ❤
They look like brothers for real. it's clear as day. You can also see how their family situations impacted them. Family had a BBQ restaurant and Rick took that and became successful skip decided to get away from that because all he saw from it was nothing but abuse and alcoholism from his parents. At least Skip was able to say he is proud of his brother even though they don't have a relationship. Skip is the Godfather of sports debate and Rick is the Godfather of Mexican cuisine in the little block of Chicago
I’m not sure what Skip Bayless needed to understand about Rick Bayless restaurant career, just go to one of the restaurants and get something to eat, Sheesh!!

I admire Bayless for his profound respect and professionalism for Mexican food and culture. Government of Mexico awarded him the Águila Azteca medal.
@@AntonioFlores-wb8zo but what about the agritortured exploited gmo sentient baby franken animals? Stop eating animals and go vegan.

Bayless has always seemed like a good person willing to do the work. I admire and respect him greatly. I have 50 years in the restaurant profession.
Dude is 71? Respect
I use to love watching his tv show on PBS
Thank you for sharing a very very nice chef here in Chicago.😊
I love the empathy he has for his brother.
This a day after the skip bayless allegations
Guess you can’t hold it against Rick for having an a hole brother.
its never a coincidence..
"Skip Bayless says he has nothing in common with his brother and they don't have a relationship."
BRO WHY DOES THIS NOT SURPRISE ME AT ALL

Skip has issues of his own with that lawsuit
I have always loved Rick Bayless just a solid good hearted man shows up in his food, The people he works with and his label. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sounds like a humble nice guy-His food is good-His brother, not so much
the breadwinner of the Bayless family
Fabulous. I loved Chef B before this wonderful interview and even more now. Beautiful.

I used to watch Rick Bayless on PBS...
My favorite Bayless brother. Like him more than Skip.
Weird timing, but Rick is the real deal.
Can’t believe he’s 71
Brothers dont have to be close, glad they dont seem to tear each other down.

Two successful brothers at extreme ends of the pendulum.
I like Rick's down to earth demeanor.
Always loved Rick’s cooking shows, he has always been very generous and giving with his knowledge and wisdom.
Thank you Rick!
Bayless is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet…..
Rick Bayless is the man regarding Mexican cuisine...love his salsa verde recipe and his chicken mole a friend made years ago was divine!

Brutal timing lol
still was a joy to watch this
I love his tv cooking show
Thank you for this inspiration!
I love this man so much

Rick Bayless is a rock star. He is a great chef.
Not taking his brother's calls this week
probably hasn't in decades tbh. polar opposites in terms of values and experiences growing up
More like his brother hasn't called him in many years.
I make his recipe of shrimp cocktail and it's da'bomb! Nice interview of a really down to earth person with a great attitude and prospective on life.
Great hair! Miss seeing him on TV.
We miss Frontera since relocating to New Mexico! ❤️
I remember watching is cooking show on PBS. Awesome 🧑🍳 chef!
I really like this guy.
Rick Payless is awesome.
Bayless
Wow! I had no idea they are brothers. Just wish my Cowboys would win a Super Bowl so I can celebrate with Skip.

Huge fan of Ricks TH-cam channel. I’ve become a much better cook because of him. His brother is useless.
Can’t get the sauces at the grocery store anymore 😟
I used to watch his show all the time. I no longer watch television because I prefer my own laptop. lol
His daughter is so pretty
when is he gonna just come home and change his name to Ricardo Baez. he's more Mexican than my abuelita.
He's a chef daddy yum
Skip is the most narcissistic loner
HI Skip …
His brother Spit is an evil person. No wonder he doesn't talk to Rick.
ORD T3 ❤
Ricks a chef and Skips diddy. I can see why rick doesn't talk to his brother anymore
They are one of the most outstanding pair of narcissists
Everyone is a Victim
Dear CBS, how come you don't interview the people in Mexico about the way 'crooked' Rick rip them off with their recipes; this due is a scam artist.
He gives Mexico credit every time he can. He’s one of the greatest champions of Mexican culture and cuisine in the world.
He got awarded by the Mexicans ffs 😆
I love to see other folks cook the food of Mexico, you don't have to be Mexican to cook it.
