A very important info for everyone wanting to fix this camera nowadays, if you want the controls on the back to keep working it's of UTMOST importance that you unclip the back of the camera and instead of lifting it completely, lift it just a little (like half an inch) so you can get a pair of tweezers under it to unlock the back buttons flex cable without puting any stress on it, those cameras are very old now, and that flex cable doesn't endure any abuse whatsoever because of it's age. Also when you put it back together do the same procedure in reverse, put the back plate in place with a little more than half an inch of space under it, use your tweezers to put the flex cable back in the conector and lock it, then you clip it back in place and apply very gentle pressure to get the screws through.
Hi, Quick question if you dont mind. I have a G11 that works perfectly with everything takes pictures flash everything ok. But when i open the lcd screen the whole camera shuts down, do you think something is wrong with the lcd screen cable or do you think the motherboard is broke? I'm trying to fix the camera because its so new and barely used, but i can not find anything related on this issue, while the screen is folded in the camera works 100% fine, the moment i open the camera lcd screen til the point where the screen supposed to light up, the whole entire camera shuts down, any ideas on this? thank you
@@kaip3260 if you can't get the screen to light up the camera doesn't work perfectly, I would bet the screen is your problem, you can find replacement screens on AliExpress or sometimes on your local used market channels.

Canon G1X Mark II have the same problem. Never again buy Canon. it's amazing that they use flexible so shit, for worse, being a problem that has been happening for a long time.
I too have decided never to buy a G-camera again. I have had a G9 and a G12, both experienced stuck lens. I tried to disassemble the G9 but one of the flexible cabel were not flexible enough and broke so it went to the dustbin. I have a couple of Canon SLR's though and they work fine.

the flex cable still exists and costs around 5-10$ - the hassle is to dismantle and put together back again
