Clearly the two best cellists of all time are Mischa and Slava but given a choice id pick Mischa for the passion and the beauty of the performance. This is wonderful and no i haven't forgotten about Yo Yo Ma lol. And Slava Rostropovich did love Mischas performances so chest hair wouldn't bother him.
he is CONCEITED and TOO PERFUMED .......all is "show off " on stage ...and it does NOT get to you his interpretations ...they come from brain NOT from heart !
One of greatest few cellists of our time. As a cellist I have attempted to learn to play the first movement of Dvorak's Cello Concerto, only to realize that even the slower parts are not as easy as they seem.

Maisky is my greatest inspiration as a cellist.
He never plays faster or more extravagantly than he an pull off. You hear each note. No unclear swarming bees.

cellokratzer i know some of the musicians and they started playing for this orchestra in 1988 or 1989.
