    I've had an Orion for a couple of years.
    I call it my cheater smoker. I use it when I'm putting on a big feed, but don't have the time to do it right.
    I've done pulled pork butts, pulled beef chuck roasts, whole turkeys, but mostly ribs. It is made for ribs!
    It's the perfect cooker for ribs at the family reunion (or hunting camp) Six racks done tender in an hour and a half. Only a true rib snob would know the difference between Orion ribs and slooow smoked. It cooks too fast to get a deep smoke ring, but the flavor and tenderness is there.
    Prep the racks and cooker, load it, light the fire, have a few beers. Tender, pull off the bone, smokey ribs 90 minutes later.
    So easy that it feels like cheating.
    My only complaint about the Orion is that it is not efficient. Every cook burns a bag of coals, so I only use it for max capacity cooks with hungry people waiting. And if it's windy, you will need to fashion a wind screen or you will use even more.

      Thanks for stopping by Nathan I agree most of my Orion cooks are pork butts for pulled pork. I have done 3 at a time. It sure will feed a crowd !

    I noticed you said you don’t own a pellet smoker, you should get one! I have two, a Yoder 640 competition and a Camp Chef 36 WiFi. They are excellent especially the Yoder,it is so versatile.

    The book tells you to put the meat on the bottom rack. I put a thermometer in thru one of the holes (remove screw) . I have a difficult time getting it up to 200 degrees. How much charcoal do you use? I haven’t tried two butts. It seems to stall at 180 or below

    • @CuffNStuffBBQ
      @CuffNStuffBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I didn’t get the book but by trial and error I found out that that if I use the top rack with the water pan partially full I get better temp control.
      I generally start the fire with a full chimney of briquettes and use splits after that. Thanks for checking it out !

    I just got this at ace hardware new, on sale for 25 dollars…but, I an not sure which on it is, it doesn’t say original, large or small on the box….mine assembled. Is 34 inches tall from floor to top of charcoal burner on top of lid…very close to 34 inches tall in total…is that the original?
    The reason for the low price was the box got minor water damage on it in storage,,,was very minimal…was unopened and new inside to include all paperwork…can’t wait to try it out.
    Just wanted to know which size I got…

      Thanks…seemed like a great deal, so got it…I have a nice heave gauge wood smoker already, a Webber grill I love, a huge island gas grill and stove top. Kind of have more than I need already but, I thought this was so cheap… I collect tons of old cast iron too…cook a lot outside…wife is getting ribs right now for a test run.
