Your buddy Derek Bieri from VGG has a great video on adjusting hydraulic lifters. Not to mention the fact that I'd absolutely LOVE to see the two of you do a video together, that would be absolutely hilarious!!!😂
Take an old set of valve covers, cut the tops off and install them. Start the engine, loosen the 1st rocker arm till it chatters, tighten it till it stops making noise, tighten half a turn. Repeat 15 times.
I’ve got a 155” 2010 express 3500. Once you find the utility of them you are forever a van man! She tows better than any other truck you own! Strong and stable!
any chebby van we had since the second gen in 1971 was epic ran like snot and the early ones from 71 to 77 were hot rods with no pollution stuff, only prob was traction and I did a 360 with no load on a g30 and ran slicked road
I was just on vacation in Rwanda and meet a group of people from OK so I asked if they had heard of Puddin's Fab Shop. Turns out they're from Tecumseh, and they had nothing but good things to say about you and your work in the community, and they got a real kick out of some random Canadian knowing about someone from their hometown. Keep up the good content and the good work!
I had a very major heart attack puddin all I could think about was watching my kids grow up and missing out on that you have been truly helping in my recover out of heart failure thank you for being you and doing so much on TH-cam so I get the entertainment I appreciate you more then you will know 😅❤
check the threads showing on each rocker nut...sometimes the press in studs work loose and work their way out of the head....just a suggestion if it keeps going out of adjustment....love watching you show never miss it....God Bless keep up the good work
Puddin, I've been a car girl all my life. And now my husband and I love watching you and your friends have fun together. And I love that you and your family work together and can make your dreams come true ❤️. Thanks for informing and entertaining us‼️
So my girlfriend went and surprised me by buying me a “Mama didn’t raise no punk” t-shirt which arrived in the mail today. I love it! We both enjoy watching your videos and think you are talented and highly entertaining. We’re proud to support you, and I’ll be proud to wear that fAnCy t-shirt to work tomorrow! 🤘
I drove a Penske truck on one of those GMC van chassis's across the country a few months back. Shockingly comfortable on a 1800 mile drive and it moved (until it hit the 75mph limiter).
Moving to Oklahoma, so I hope to get to collaborate maybe offer you some free labor, sweep your floors, clean rocks out of tires, whatever… great episode!
That van will probably tow just as good as your pickup., maybe better. The only difference between the two might come down to the gearing. The only downside I’ve ever experienced towing with a cargo van is they are harder to see out of, other than that they are pretty similar. On a side note: I had a fleet of vans for my business both Ford and GM and the weak point of the GM vans was their transmission so you might want to do a preventative service on yours. I think I put transmissions in ever one I owned but we put a crap ton of miles on them everyday. They were excellent trucks. At first you might get the creeper van vibe but driving them kinda grows on you and you see why people like them.
Well I would disagree with them being the worst but to each their own. I can only speak on the van’s I’ve personally had and out of all them I’ve never had to put a trans in any of the Fords but that’s not to say I’ve never replaced a transmission in a Ford because I definitely have, just not in any of the vans. I was thinking about it and I can’t remember if the Chevy’s I had were 4L60’s or 4L80’s, but if I was to guess I would venture to say they were probably 4L60’s since they are notorious for not being the best. Even at that they were still excellent vehicles and they got the crap beat out of them everyday. Every brand has problems there is no perfect vehicle out there…
6:25 I Love the new man van! I got one too and I use it for my truck!! I haul all my kids and trailer!! Once you get hitch on yours, you'll love the new van!!
The screws you're referring to are your idle mixture screws. If one is closed off, then the bank that screw serves will run lean, thus one side of the engine will run hotter than the other.
Awesome video. Had a heart surgery 10 weeks ago and brother is going to help me rebuild water pump and change generator on my 39 buick. Tired of sitting on my ass. Time to finish the project😂 Thanks for the awesome videos
Be on the lookout for the rocker studs backing out. If those rockers keep getting loose on you it's a strong possibility that those rocker studs are backing out.
I was a salaried employee with GM in the early 2000's, and part of the group that had the task of informing O'Reilly's that we were removing all ACDelco parts from their stores. Man have things changed since then.
Take one valve cover off at a time and stick a piece of cardboard and run it and adjust the valves that way back it off till it makes noise the start to tighten it till the noise goes away and then give it a quarter turn
I think you would be pleasantly surprised with how those vans tow i drive one every day with a 12 foot dump trailer for a landscaping company and we’ve never had an issue with towing even in the mountains of Tucson 👍👍👍👍
For adjusting the rockers, remember EO-IC. I like to do one cylinder at a time. When the EXHAUST is OPENING (EO), adjust the intake. When the INTAKE is CLOSING (IC), adjust the exhaust. Hope this helps. Thanks for all the GREAT content!
It's great to see you guys joking around and having a good time. I'm sure feels good to resolve these issues, the car sounds great. Keep up the great work and the cool videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and my shop teacher back when i took the course told us to check plug gaps every time you remove them. Love your show. You always start with a basket case project. And by the way i have peripheral neuropathy and have severe pain and weekness in my legs and have been sittin on my ass and finishing my projects for the past few years.
Puddin, as a man that has owned multiple SWEET vans, and currently with a 95 Dodge Ram Van 3500 1 ton with SWEET PATINA…. Can we get a van build?! A SWEET old van - G series or B series van from a yard with some SWEET PATINA? Do it for us van guys.
Today went to get my truck inspected damn bolt holding the rear leaf springs on ripped a few threads out and shifted two inches to the right so when you hit the brakes it would pivot so it failed. Need to fix way my life goes any need a new universal joint also broke in line to get inspection

i bought a cargo van to put my carpet cleaning rig in, I drove it empty for a few months empty and it was handy as could be! I miss having the usefulness of a big van. Might buy another one for my daily driver!
As always, Top Dog Carona and I enjoyed the update! Always love Bill and he performed his weedeating service, glad he isn't grumpy anymore. He is still waiting for a suitable shirt for a 14 pound minature Doberman, as am I.
I love that g ‘em junk. It’s all I own. 4 Chevy gmc vehicles dating from 1963 to 2011. A carryall, a Silverado, an Astro and a terrain. Been wrenchin on gm my whole life. You need longer than that to keep anything else runnin. Lol
I got a 2006 3500 GMC Savanah, has 236k miles, bought it to pull camper. Was surprised how good it pulls, and great power. (6.0). I love this old “creeper” van. 15 passenger, took all but 1seat out, have bunks in back. Never will junk it, I’ll put new power train if it ever goes down. Thanks for entertainment.
Despite all of the trouble and problems you have run into, you pulled off the total rebuild of the wagon. I have enjoyed watching all of the videos and am looking forward to many more. Pudding, you done good!
Watching this struggle makes me feel so much better. I rebuilt a 351c for my Torino a year ago and had a similar series of events. Very demoralizing having a cascade of problems on a project. If I could figure it out, I know puddin can.
I just got order one of your onesey for my son and a shirt to match for me. momma didnt run raise no punk. Thank you for all the hard work you and your family do just to keep all of us entertained. Keep up the awesome work. Thank you puddin and puddin family
Didn't see anyone comment on the mystery part you thought came from the power steering fitting . That's the guts from the cheap pvc valve that exploded a couple shows back. Thanks for great channel !
Adjusting the lifters pull the valve covers ,stuff a rag to catch the oil , loosen the rocker bolt till it rattles. Then turn it in 1/2 turn for gas mileage ,3/4 for performance .
puddin you have been a very big part of what i do you made me want to get out and build stuff again i got a fun job with good people building frak pumps motors and more. an now have a second job building motors for my boss i want to get on my 77 vet that is my next step. thanks for the videos you put out love every one of them my friend lives where ur at so who knows i might get to see u one day
Love it!!!! We gotta figure out shipping shirts and stuff north of the border. I’d buy 8 just to have spare for the week 😘……love the channel buddy. Keep up the great work yourself, family and friends 👍👍👍
Brother, I have the Chevy “church” version of that same 3500 van and it is a towing beast. I pull a heavy race car trailer all around the country and with the 6.0 and better transmission in the 1 ton model it pulls great. You could definitely get rid of the truck if you wanted to and just tow with the van. That was a good purchase.
When im working on planes cleaning and gapping plugs. I always tell the owners you get two drops on a sparkplug. First one on the ground the second one in the trash. Little less critical in a car. Keep on keepin on Puddin 👍
Hey Puddin, You may want to keep a roll or 2 of Pigmat absorbant sheets they are way handy. Clean, easy way to clean a spill. Does not create a slip hazard or get dust everywhere. 😎
I had a 3500 chevy with the 6.0 gas and I put a hitch on it I hauled a bobcat and all the accessories and tools for pole barn construction and 6 men in the van and I never had a single problem. Had plenty of power!
I was taught to adjust while it’s running, loosen nut till it chatters then tighten till it stops (all 16). Then with motor off give each a 1/4 turn. Rags along edge of head will catch oil.
Put it on TDC #1 adjust both rockers, turn crankshaft a 1/4 turn that puts #8 @ TDC another 1/4 turn puts #4 @ TDC adjust them thru firing order 1/4 turn of crankshaft at a time will bring next cylinder in firing order to TDC . 3/4 turn of lash.
When I set valves I use a bore scope. Set each cylinder one by one to TDC. Use the bore scope to watch the valves open and then back off until they just close. Makes it so damn simple. I've done so many of these in the last 7 years every engine has been different. I've had some that had open valves at 1/2 and 3/4 turn down. But doing the bore scope method I can guarantee they are right on the money allowing for max lift and 100% sure of closure.
Puddin, do your valves in the morning with the engine completely cool. I use a 15 thousandths feeler gauge. Do exhaust on 1,3,4,8 and intake on 1,2,5,7. Turn engine 90 degrees and do opposite on remaining 7 cylinders (1 is complete)
MAN I"M LUVIN' that Wagon!! Just an FYI. Change the PCV from the pass side to the driver side. Engines pull fresh crank case air from the pass side (thru the breather) and release to the driver side where the carb picks it up thru the pcv. You might be creating a internal vacuum that may or may not cause tuneability issues. The PCV is a one way check valve. Therefore the engine is not able to pull fresh crankcase air in and will create a vacuum which may be why you are having a hard time setting the valves. Just something to consider. Luv the work you're doing. Keep up the great content.
sitting on my ass watching this vid instead of finishing my projects rn but it’s worth it to watch puddtang and cheech50 and bill chong all try to work in harmony.
I bought an Express 3500 passenger van to replace my pickup and I love it. I can take all the friends and family camping, or take the seats out of it and haul pallets of tiles without it sagging. It'll bounce down the road if it doesn't have any weight in it. It tows amazing too. Used it to move some friends recently, packed to the brim and pulling a full uhaul trailer it acts like nothing is there. The nieces joke about the white van and ask for some "free candy", but I just reply with "It has windows!!"
Started watching you the other day, I can't tell nobody what they should do. But ifin ya was to take any advice from me. Prepare for a depression real stinker ya know. Enjoy old cars getting put back to work on a budget. Don't care if it ever gets painted. Like the patena look. Good day to y'all.
I'm a ford guy. Drove a chevy 12ft box van for fedex for 4 years. Had 170k when I got it and 310k when I left the job. 3 transmissions 3 rear ends. But that engine....6.0. Solid as hell. Hard life for a van but the engine took it like a champ. Nothing but respect for that LS.
Couple of thoughts. In my state they require you to run the exhaust out the back to get beyond the interior of the vehicle. I guess if it is legal in your state just be sure you aren't getting fumes inside. Back when I had a 283, I always adjusted the valves while it was running. Seemed to work really well. Nice to see the project coming together.
Man that hurts the break in procedure is 3-3200 rpm for 20-30 minutes on a flat tappet cam and in your last vidjayo it didn't sound much more than idle. I even had my toes crossed for ya brother. Stick your borescope down through the head in through the oil port through the to the cam and take a quick peek at what your cam lobes look like. Good luck brother 🤞
Yeah, those 3500 vans will surprise you on how they tow and everything about them. I got a 2011 Chevy 3500 and that thing is a boss. It really surprised me bought it from a church for 300 bucks only had 23,000 miles on it.
Hope that cam.n lifter set isnt junk.....been reading lots of bad reviews on how poorly cams are made lately ..fingers crossed its something a simple adjustment can fix for ya...looking forward to the next wagon video...Thanks Puddin !
I drove an E-350 with 13 Boy Scouts pulling a dual axle trailer, like a U-Haul, from Houston to Altamont, TN which is 850 miles. I know it's a different brand, but it pulled and drove great, drank a lot of gas with all that weight but I had no issues.
I do hope you take good care of Bill, grab him a burrito, a sub, an eighth from time to time. He's an indispensable part of Puddin's fab shop.
Maybe Bill can move with you to the New place. Hé can stad in the mobilehome wen you fix it UP.

Adjusting valves like Bill was is definitely an acquired skill . Few things I need, 1 luv tap stuff coming back. 2 need a bill sticker

You gonna wanna save on that van, should be a 4l80 2wd behind that 6.0, perfect setup to build you a little turbo drag and drive wagon.,
Very happy with the van you'll be

16.57 sell the trailer you have. Look up Texas Rollback Trailer….Trailer made in Texas for low rider cars.Great video!
Thanks Puddin😀
Nothing but respect for that LS.
loving the catfish
Congratulations on the upgraded fleet
I am quite practical. Hahaha love the videos. 2nd channel is killing it too. Hope to get the chance to meet ya one day
Puddin' I appreciate that you got a real American van and not one of those Transit pieces of crap.
Yeah, those 3500 vans will surprise you on how they tow and everything about them. I got a 2011 Chevy 3500 and that thing is a boss. It really surprised me bought it from a church for 300 bucks only had 23,000 miles on it.
Looks rad just THAT low and on the steelies!
My father in law has one of those creeper vans with a duramax in it
Hope that cam.n lifter set isnt junk.....been reading lots of bad reviews on how poorly cams are made lately ..fingers crossed its something a simple adjustment can fix for ya...looking forward to the next wagon video...Thanks Puddin !
Ol' Puddin' put the work in for that Of Reily spot! That was great 😂
You covered a lot of ground AND so did your family!!!!
WAY TO GO TO Y'ALL!!!
I drove an E-350 with 13 Boy Scouts pulling a dual axle trailer, like a U-Haul, from Houston to Altamont, TN which is 850 miles.
I know it's a different brand, but it pulled and drove great, drank a lot of gas with all that weight but I had no issues.
