  • Come and enjoy a ride down one of the most iconic and well known railways in the UK on an iconic steam train. Enjoy the ever changing but always stunning scenery, the fabulous stations and of course the tunnels and bridges that make this line fantastic.
Starting in Rawtenstall you are quickly whisked along the Lancashire countryside to Irwell Vale before crossing over to Greater Manchester and pulling in to Ramsbottom, Summerseat, Burrs Country Park, Bury and then finally on to Heywood.
    0:00 Rawtenstall Station
5:30 Ewood Bridge & Edenfield Station (disused)
    7:30 Irwell Vale Station
    12:30 Stubbins Station (disused)
    15:50 Ramsbottom Station
    19:40 Nuttall Tunnel (105m) / Brooksbottom Tunnel (387m)
    21:00 Brooksbottom Viaduct
    21:40 Summerseat Station
    27:55 Burrs Country Park
    33:00 Bury Bolton Street Station
    38:50 Roach Viaduct & Bridge Over M66
    43:40 Broadfield Station (disused)
    46:45 Heywood Station
Full information on this amazing line and the 7 stations can be found here:

Rawtenstall is a fantastic place to start your journey, with the station being in the heart of the town. Rawtenstall also has plenty of parking, with an added advantage of being outside any current clean air zone plans. By travelling from Rawtenstall you are able to hop on and off at any of the stations along the line and enjoy the facilities at the other locations such as track side cafes and bars, and of course the transport museum at Bury (which is well worth a visit).
The East Lancashire Railway is one of those railways that cater from people ages 1 to 100. A quick look at the calendar shows a jam packed year of galas, themed weekends (including Thomas The Tank and Peppa Pig) and then more grown up events such as numerous dining trains, ale trails and even a murder mystery night.
Of course the real stars of the ELR are the locos, the one used in this clip (80097) is of course fantastic, but they have a fine collection of Steam, Diesel and DMU locos that will keep any enthusiast happy.
80097 is an ongoing project and the upkeep and restoration always requires supporters and funds. Information on the loco, it's history and where to donate should you wish to help preserve this loco can be found here:

There is a huge issue with your channel: The list of places to go on my next visit to UK is growing and growing.

It is a brilliant place, looks different in every season too. I would highly recommend winter if I am honest, less leaves on the tree only add to the view around here.

22:04 Summerseat, another mere halt. No shelter, no ticket office, no amenities, *NOTHIN'!*

Station wise it is another simple halt, but again it is in a lovely village 🙂

28:33 Burrs Country Park, again a mere halt with nothing more than a wet weather shelter.

This is the most recent station on the line, I half remember this opening a few years back

16:45 Compared to Irwell Vale, Ramsbottom Station is far more substantial. Also, the two disused stations passed through thus far, it's hard to tell if they were ever as substantial as Ramsbottom, or mere halts like Irwell Vale, as all the buildings are long gone and only vegetation-infested platforms remain.

    • @TheTouristLine
      @TheTouristLine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think the disused stations were ever anything substantial, but Ramsbottom is nice, great little village too.

I sat and had a picnic here last weekend in the middle of a hike, so it does have something special now, me 😂

Irwell Vale Station, a mere "halt", really. Not much more than a wet weather shelter on the single platform. And no ticket sales office. (8:01)

This is my favourite station (or halt) on any line in the UK. It is 10 minutes on foot from my house and I sometimes take my daughter and have a picnic in there if it is raining, trains or no trains 😁
