Had to pause to say Yes! No pedestal sink! 👍👍👍 😊 Nowhere to store extra toilet paper rolls, bars of soap, cleaning products, perhaps even spare clean towels if you're clever with the vanity cupboard space. A vanity cabinet no matter how tiny is much more practical than a pedestal. I grew up with old fashioned ones in Victorian houses and storage was such a problem. Well done for swapping. Whomever lives in your house henceforth wiil love you for it. 🤗 And as a plumber told you, a lot easier to install. 💖
We actually rehung our existing powder room door so it swung out so that our parents who use a walker could navigate the bathroom so much more easily. It is right next to our pantry door, which has always swung out, so it actually looks better this way.
Brilliant solution by your father-in-law imho. Outer swing on the loo door is perfect, too. It's already a tiny space, and old folks appreciate all the extra space we can get. Great video, wonderful progress. See ya next Tuesday!
As a person who had to use a walker for a few months after a surgery I appreciate you not using a door smaller than 30. I was impressed by how you laid that vinyl. I would have had to do a paper template and still screwed it up. It looks nice.
It's crazy to think that I found your videos when I was pregnant and had insomnia in 2020. To see how far this house has come and my daughter's growth is amazing.
The outward swinging door for that tiny powder room is indeed the best choice if large people will be using it. I like the pattern on the vinyl sheet flooring. I wish you had extended it down the entry hallway for ease of cleaning instead of putting in that carpeting. Children and pet dogs may be tracking in a lot of mud and vacuuming will not get up the muddy water that soaks into the carpeting and mildews the jute backing. When it is time to replace that carpeting, I would go with industrial type vinyl tiles because they are easy to keep clean and can stand up to a lot of use.
I couldn't agree more regarding the mud room/entry way and the carpet. I'm curious about his explanation in the next video, because I am struggling to see advantages. Isn't that kind of linoleum floor also cheaper than carpet?
Glad you bit that bullet and opened a Patreon. As much as i've enjoyed your videos over the last (?) years, it enjoy them even more now knowing that i'm giving back to the creator.
Fun (maybe) fact :) In Norway there is a standard that all doors into bathrooms have to swing out. This is in case of emergency, so the person inside the bathroom cant block the door with their body if they have fallen down etc.
On your transition between rooms, the spacing for the screws are every 2" (should also be used from seam to seam as well) and the interior spacing is 6" or 8" depending on the thickness of plywood or substrate used. The reasoning for this is due to the amount of pressure exerted when walking - you don't want the sheets to start squeaking. Great job! I've loved the series so far, enjoyed the journey.
Your craftsmanship is amazing, in fitting things in this crooked little house. It is going to be far better and far cuter than it has ever been in its existence. It is really starting to come together. My hubby is starting to get hooked on your channel as well. I do with we could call you something other than 'that homemade home guy" when we talk about what you are doing.
It's been so amazing to watch this house come together very inspiring. I sure hope the renter truly appreciates the home and takes good care of it. What a blessing. Looking forward to the next video 😊
I think the little bit of extra storage in the small bathroom is lovely because everyone needs a place to keep toilet paper. It may have been possible early on to do a pocket door? I can't recall. The other alternative, which I think is horrid,is a bi fold door. I really dislike bifold doors. I was laughing, why not a saloon door. Sorry about the 12K house getting trashed, I remember you working hard on that.
The place is getting the finishing touches. Looking so good. I would be happy to live here. You have done so much work, and the amount of work you did behind walls, people will never know.
I've dealt with tiny bathrooms like that, both in my childhood house and my current house. I remember my mom telling me a story of my dad getting stuck in the bathroom because he couldn't figure out how to maneuver around the door and toilet 😂 He's not even a large guy either. You definitely made the right choice having it swing out, even if it seems a little unconventional. In other thoughts, I can't believe how close you are to completing this renovation and getting a tenant in there. I've been following not quite since the beginning, but shortly thereafter. I have a huge sense of joy and satisfaction seeing everything come together like it has. Thanks for taking us along for the ride these past 4-almost-5 years.
Great work! Something to note: You had mentioned stepping down from a 28 inch door would require you to go to a 24. It is very easy to get a 26 inch pre hung door at your lowes or home depot by chatting with their door rep. They are 'custom' order, but will only run you $160 or so.
The guest toilet door is well thought out. Colonial classic six panel style hollow core interior doors of the same style on the entire floor level. Putting low-profile wood trim around windows and doors slim. But still tasteful and decorative. All very good sir. Not to be trapped, not to swing the door inwards and of course the only right door solution here in this powder room so small in size. The normal thing in Europe to code and also in Russia is to have as a rule to let bathroom doors swing outwards. Very good sir.
I've been watching you for years, your work ethic, skills, and attention to detail are commendable! I look forward to more years of enjoying your content.
I am one of the people who will hate on the floor choice BUT. I am looking at it from an owners perspective not a landlord perspective, so we are looking at it from two different viewpoints when it comes to function. And no matter what flooring you choose it's 1000% better than the original floors. So great job with both the house and the videos. Looking forward to seeing this house done.
My experience is the sink bolts to the wall, you do your plumbing and then slide the base under which is just a cover. But you need to plan for it before the drywall goes on so you have sturdy studs to bolt into.
I want to thank you again for the "$9,000 House" videos... Your skills and diligent work ethic is inspiring. Amazing how it is taking-on such a transformation. I also really enjoy how you explain your decisions.
With this video I felt like I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for this project. I"ve watched this series of videos from the beginning and you have totally rebuilt this place. I hope you get some great renters. Like a middle aged or older couple who want to stay there for oh you know the next twenty years or so. Also you mentioned in your last video having a new baby. Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing the kitchen completion.
You should get the end caps for the cut edge of the countertops at the range. If there's no caps they will get nasty. Also, consider getting side splashes for the ends of the counter top to protect the walls there.
I haven't watched all of the video yet. I just wanted to say how much i love that little banity over the pedistal sink. Can't keep anything in a pedistal. Now there is a bit of storage even if not much. Bettern' nothin'.
Growing up we had a similar small half-bath off the kitchen, and a similar outswing door. Never thought anything of it - there simply wasn't room internally for it. No need to explain - all's well that ends well.
I am so sad that people would trash the 12,000 dollar house! This was another very satisfying peak into finishing this house. Kudos to your FIL for the excellent advice. I prefer the outward swinging powder room door, it encourages keeping it shut!
Just FYI, in my country (Belgium, Europe), it is advised to have toilet doors opening outwards for safety reasons. If anyone would pass out in this toilet behind the door, you wouldn't be able to open it inwards and rescue him.

Have you thought about stick on tile back splash in the kitchen it would make it easier to clean and it's a cheaper alternative to actual tile. It's looking very nice! I think its no problem ppl will get used to closing the door, I've seen houses where a restroom is in the hallway or off kitchen and the doors swing out you get used to closing it after use.
That floor looks terrific. With the kitchen powder room door, there is an unusual solution. Run the door through the table saw, cutting it in half. Put fitting strips to reinforce the edges, then a piano hinge. Instant bifold door. Problem solved. Watching you do the floor in the porch, I think this is the first mistake I've seen you make. On two counts. First, the better solution long term would have been to run the vinyl kitchen floor through the porch. Solves both issues. It is nice to see someone who considers that.
Nice work. Nothing wrong with linoleum for what you're trying to achieve, especially that you did not glue it down so it can easily be removed. Another great video. Thank you.
Your renters will thank you for the vanity storage and door swing. Curious why you didn't do vinyl in the mudroom as well. Would be MUCH easier to keep clean than dark carpet that will show every speck of dirt and trap dirt and water.
2:29 Dude..that is NICE! Screw haters, they're jealous of your capabilities. You're awesome! Men like you are rare. Most just play PC-games nowadays like little children, you are actually building and doing something sensible with your life. And thats why they hate. Jealousy.
You know I never thought about it before. Here in the Netherlands bathroom and toilet doors usually open outwards. But in Portugal they mostly go inward 😅
I have that exact vanity in my house. Our full bath is 5’x7’ do there’s no space for anything bigger. One issue I’ve had is that the sides are particle board and the bottoms were unfinished. After a year of kids splashing water from the tub, one of the sides is swelling.
I think ppl. have gotten used to the rose colored HGTV staged home flips that are impractical with $500K budgets!! This is REAL life with a CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN & safe home for someone to move into. It's all looking good Bud. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!!
I personally wouldn't have done lino, but i can certainly understand the reasoning behind it. At the end if the day this is a rental home, and affordable/ durable are the most important things. Plus it honestly does look good. Im sure its also a lot easier to install with the.. less than square architecture
Probably best if it swing outward, as you'd have to walk into the corner of the bathroom just to shut the door, if it swung inward. I really can't wait to see what the rental looks like after having tenants.
I have a small bathroom and pedestal sink but I would absolutely switch it out for a small sink for storage alone! Toilet paper, cleaning supplies... there's only so many places you can shove those things out of view.
Wow awesome progress!! Swinging the door out worked great. Praise the Lord for a wonderful father in law who could give you such helpful advice and honestly it's a double win bc the renter will feel like they have more storage space compared to a pedestal sink
You could use bi-fold doors on the powder room. You’re going to have to buy a new door anyway, and the bi-fold won’t interfere with any future island in the kitchen, or smack people in the face when it’s opened into the walkway.❤️🤗🐝 oops! I wrote this before I saw the end🤗
I love this house over all the others. It is absolutely gorgeous, and you've really worked hard on it. Since your family is getting bigger, why don't you just move into it? Granted it's in a good location for you. Also, i think it's a good idea to always have a bathroom door pull out vs. In for safety.
Tbh the only thing I would change about the door would be to as hinges that automatically close the bathroom door if I was living there but I fully understand why you would want to not have that
When you first started ripping up that vinyl I thought for a second there was another layer underneath and I was like "OH NO THERE'S ANOTHER LAYER" but it wasn't. xD
As a person who has rental properties, I never knew that yellow mustard was an adhesive. I'll try that next time! And fwiw, having to through it a couple of times, modern laminated flooring is both easier to install (after the "Big Freeze" in Texas a few years back, and a flooded house, I know) than sheet products. Not sure on the costs, but my wife insisted on it, and it wasn't what I'd consider overly costly. $800-ish for 2 bedrooms and a hallway that had ruined carpets on a slab. Your door decision is the right one. All that said, I also understand the economics of rental properties, and you have done nothing wrong that I can see. Oh, and I am retired, and just enjoy watching people work! 🙂
Ive watch the whole process and see you doing excellent work. The one thing that I dont understand though is your choice to leave the door on the side porch. Its not needed and seems to render the space more or less limited use. Would have made a nice pantry for such a limited space.
Hi, luv ur common sense approach to things and how u explain why u did it the way u did,I really think viewers appreciate that, and things are definitely different prices in each state, always wondered what state that house is in.

Man this house is looking 100X better. Glad you posted this instead of waiting. Post the 12K dollar house.
linoleum choice is perfect. It won’t show dirt.
I would install cabinets in that entry hall as a pantry of sorts.

going through my own mess like this recently. love the problem solving. here with you brother.
Yeah the outwards swinging door is best for a tiny space like that.
You gotta buy or paint that hvac outlet black on the porch. Such a small detail but you don’t want to draw someone’s eye to a white register cover.
I would have done either a pocket door or an accordion door. I love the flooring. I love your attention to detail.
Growing up we had a similar small half-bath off the kitchen, and a similar outswing door. Never thought anything of it - there simply wasn't room internally for it. No need to explain - all's well that ends well.

Been following this remodel since the beginning! Glad to see it coming together!
The door closing sweep you threw at 19:03 was flawless.
Just FYI, in my country (Belgium, Europe), it is advised to have toilet doors opening outwards for safety reasons. If anyone would pass out in this toilet behind the door, you wouldn't be able to open it inwards and rescue him.
You are getting the job done. 😊 This house has been renovated from the basement to the roof. Anyone would be pleased to rent or purchase this home. 😊😊 see you next time. Make it worth your time and hard work. 😊😊
Bathroom door swinging out is safer anyway. If someone fainted in that small bathroom, you wouldn't have been able to get to them before.
I love the vinyl flooring
love the work and the multi tool to cut the vent access (we call it a noisy saw as knowing tradespersons its just got the name as its too loud)
I figured out how to break up that chimney base. Treat it like solid rock and drill holes and use "feathers" and a hammer to split it. Hope this helps
That bathroom door install was so ridiculously satisfying
That floor looks terrific. With the kitchen powder room door, there is an unusual solution. Run the door through the table saw, cutting it in half. Put fitting strips to reinforce the edges, then a piano hinge. Instant bifold door. Problem solved.
Watching you do the floor in the porch, I think this is the first mistake I've seen you make. On two counts. First, the better solution long term would have been to run the vinyl kitchen floor through the porch. Solves both issues. First, the carpet inside the door is going to be difficult to keep clean. Dirty footwear is going to soil it. The break in the floor is also adding to the visual smallness of the area. The vinyl would visually expand the space. It would also be easy for the tenant to keep clean and will last much longer.
Love the tile - pre dirty, will look good before and after a mopping
You should hit those registers with some black spray paint on the side porch. They would look so much better.
That music during the sink install was intense. Like “It’s HAPPENING!!!!”
Glad you realized why a swing out door for that small bathroom was a smart decision.
Almost to the finish line! Great job!
Thanks for showing your journey.

Great intro music! Flooring looks great. Bathroom door is fine. I've found bathrooms placed close to kitchen benefit from an exhaust fan . . .
I like the flooring, and that door needs to swing out. You have done a fantastic job with this place.
Agree on the pedestal sink. Have one. Don't like it. Complicated for the plumber to install and again when we changed the faucet.
Door swinging outward will be great for leg room and not having to dodge the door when it’s getting closed

Good to see you making progress. Stay positive!
Probably best if it swing outward, as you'd have to walk into the corner of the bathroom just to shut the door, if it swung inward. I really can't wait to see what the rental looks like after having tenants.
Looking great! Our 1/2 bath door opens to the kitchen as well. Works fine :D

Tbh the only thing I would change about the door would be to as hinges that automatically close the bathroom door if I was living there but I fully understand why you would want to not have that
Ill have to try yellow mustard on my next projects, seems to work great
When you first started ripping up that vinyl I thought for a second there was another layer underneath and I was like "OH NO THERE'S ANOTHER LAYER" but it wasn't.
He fills the mustard bottle with glue, hope you know that.
@@poodlegirl55 Yes. Yes, I understand that mustard is not an adhesive.
So many jobs, it’s coming along. It’ll be a nice home for someone.
“Using the small bathroom for something you shouldn’t” 😂😂😂
I like the music you used. I like the progress too.
Hats off to anyone who still rents out their properties. Good to see the house is finally coming together.
Ive watch the whole process and see you doing excellent work. The one thing that I dont understand though is your choice to leave the door on the side porch. Its not needed and seems to render the space more or less limited use. Would have made a nice pantry for such a limited space.
It’s a nice private place to go for peace out to take a call, kids play area, etc. I have the same thing on my house and it is my favorite room.
Hi, luv ur common sense approach to things and how u explain why u did it the way u did,I really think viewers appreciate that, and things are definitely different prices in each state, always wondered what state that house is in.
