I understood every word, just don't ask me to speak to you in German. I can get 75% of what's said on Tatort Köln, I regret that my German is not better.
@@Stella-xe4wp Thanks, fren. Childhood German lessons and a lifelong interest in German music are the cause. I never got a grasp on German grammar, though.
It's a cold day here on the prairie..... I decided to spend the day at home with my son today ,(presidents day) and organize for tomorrow. Feeling slightly homesick I searched for the songs from my youth. What a wonderful blessing! Here are my two fourth grade teachers singing a song that we would always sing this time of year...their voices are filling my heart with memories and emotions, and my eyes won't stop watering. Thank You!
Grüß Gott lieber Elvie, danke für diesen schönen Canon. Ich hoffe Ihr seid alle gesund und Ihr habt Freude mit unserem Herrn im Alltag. Eure Lieder erinnern mich an meine frühe Kindheit unweit vom Schwarzwald. Alemannisch geschwärzt hemma au‘ und es erinnert mi jetz no an meine Leit (Opa+Oma) Machets guet. Gott segne Eich aus Libby, MT
Their vocal style sounds like my Granny, RIP. She wasn't Amish, but she was from East Tennessee and she almost sounded like a bluegrass singer. She did that lick where you slide your vocals up like a fourth interval.
I know of another version : Der Hahn ist tot, der Hahn ist tot, Der Hahn ist tot, der Hahn ist tot. Er kann nicht mehr sagen kukudi kukuda Er kann nicht mehr sagen kukudi kukuda. Kukukukukukukukudi kukuda Kukukukukukukukudi kukuda. 🎶 🐓 ⚰️ 🎵 We learned this at school, or was it at scouting?. Anyway, it was ages ago. But the words are easy to remember. I grew up in the Netherlands next door to Germany. 🎶🐓⚰️🎵🇱🇺 🇩🇪
You aren't really hearing an American accent but instead the phonetics shared by English and German as late as the early 19th century. Just like American English is closer to original pronunciation English on both sides of the Atlantic than RP, German spoken in Pennsylvania has barely changed from the 18th century German of the Palatinate. That twang was present in many dialects of German as it was in many dialects of English during that period. You are hearing a voice from the past, not an American corrupted dialect.

Immer wieder schön, die deutschen Weisen anzuhören

It's so good, that you still speak Pennsylvanian dutch! It is the bridge to your past. You are great people!
Very nice !
Wonderful! God bless you from Massachusetts
Gott segne euch. 💗 Grüße aus der Nähe von Köln.
Schön gesungen. ❤️
Very Nice! - This appears to be your only video; I hope there are more coming!
Old German with a very strong american english accent, but beautiful and traditional. so sad nobody sings anymore these days.
??? You mean it's sad Germans don't sing? The Amish haven't stopped singing.
Palatinate german with american accent.
He is my song!

Das klingt für deutsche Ohren wunderschön ❤
It’s the melody of „Der Hahn ist tot/Le coq est mort“. I guess „Fruhyahr komm hier“ was first...
AMEN! See you soon in heaven with The Lord Jesus!

Wow even for me (German) it's hard to understand every single word. I really have to concentrate:D
The American accent is really strong indeed.
"Le coq est mort, le coq est mort" is the French version of this song
Der Hahn ist tot, der Hahn ist tot...
What does it mean?
I've noticed that when they sing in German, the vocal licks and the accent are really really country. I'm really curious how that happens.
Does my eye spot an outlet? And light switches? And electric lights?
Oscar Holmqvist They are not Amish, they are simply singing a song that has Amish origins.
They sing in German but with a heavy English-American accent.
Exactly that’s why some
Words I was like why they pronounce like that.

Ben Vanderwoude Yeah, basically it‘s palatinate german with an (more or less) american accent.
this is most definitely an american/english accent. Have you ever heard real late 19th century German?
I just read about their puppy mills. So much for hearts, flowers and springtime religious hypocrisy. Ca
Calling BS on this one. Go tell it to the dogs you brutalize.
LOL
They look robotic
Scary
