I always have said the 70s were dangerous. The cars were to fast for the time, too many excesses and the laws were too leniant. It's a wonder many of us survived. These bands and songs are something we won't ever forget.

      I mean it's a great, beautiful song but it doesn't sound "fresh" whatsoever. Which is to say it doesn't really sound like anything in at least the last 30 years. I don't know by what definition this sound (blues-tinged southern rock) would be considered 'fresh'.

    Unlike the version on One From The Road this is an unproduced, raw recording that shows precisely how utterly brilliant this band were as live performers. They needed no mixing, no editing. no production. This is Lynyrd Skynyd in the flesh. It's a historical record. This is real. This is soul. If it doesn't hit you in the heart then check your pulse.

    • @marksmusicCC

      @@marksmusicCCNo. Look into it, they practiced over and over and over. By the time they played it live or studio it was as second nature as walking. Thank Ronnie for that. If you want more details backing that up just let me know. Your comment is just a guess and something true of other bands. I’d like to see if you know who has the copy of all Ronnie’s lyrics.

      @marksmusicCC ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@NSBlack_Stallion Er no I am not guessing believe me, 50 years as a musician you do learn a thing or two..
      of course they practiced over and over, it is a rather common thing for musicians to do actually...
      What I am saying is that you can not put on a show in front of 1000s of people without mixing, a solid production and a lot of sound engineering.. Without any of that they would sound like shit.
      They are not playing in the backyard or in some garage.. Do you really think they just walk onto the stage with a 50 watt Marshal and jam away LMAO

    I am currently 17 years old and this is the greatest music I will ever listen to in my life. My parents taught me the lyrics to "All I can do is write about it" and "the ballad of Curtis Loew" as soon as I could speak. Im glad I was raised in a classic rock house because I do not go a day without throwing on a Skynyrd record! We shouldn't generalize my generation just because our computer generated garbage music is popular, because I know a few people like myself who still appreciate this art.

      Allman brothers were awesome!!!…but there song book pales in comparison to what skynyrd put out in 4 years. Just sayin! Almann BB were closer to jazz (original lineup) and Lynyrd to rock and country.. while retaining a southern approach.. both. They wrote and played the memorable pieces in a virtuoso and heartfelt manner... I've been listening to them since 1980... both, but in some ways I have to admit that Lynyrd ultimately remained fresher and more time-tested.

    "If you want to know who Ronnie Van Zant was, just take the lyrics of any six songs that he wrote and you got Ronnie." - I heard that quote in the Rockumentary on the band and it rang true. He was one of Rock's great and underappreciated songwriters. All of his words and lyrics carried a powerful, but simple message. Rock In Peace - Ronnie, Steve, Cassie and the rest of the band.

      💯 Agreed! Ronnie Van Zant was a musical genius. It's absolutely mind blowing to think about what he would have done had it not been for the horrible accident. 😭 Best damn southern rock and roll band ever. RIP LS.💙

      @@bolivingston1400 I probably heard him say it in the rockumentary. Credit belongs to Ed.
      The real tragedy of Ronnie's death is the future loss of great music and lyrics that the band was about to produce. The Street Survivors lp is their best work and Ronnie and Gaines were going to be a great team of songwriters. They only scratched the surface.

    Songs like this dont even exist anymore, thank God for all the amzing concert footage we will always be able to experience what life is really all about. This song in particular, and many others actually brings me to a certain kind of religious experience when I close my eyes and let the words and melody was over me. In my mind's eye I am remembering all my loved ones who have passed on. Lynyrd has that kind of power, witness! Simple Man takes me there as well.

      I was one to be counted among the lucky to have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd live in their heyday. They knew how to rock it, great lyrics, great music. They didn't need to put on costumes, make-up, and dance around the stage. They entertained their audience simply by playing the best music this country had to offer at that time. The Allman Brothers were my first musical love and remain my favorite group, but Skynyrd played 2nd fiddle to no-one. They were the real deal. Although Ronnie didn't play an instrument, his loss was a devastating one, as he was an excellent song writer, composer, singer, and the defacto leader of LS. His loss was comparable to the loss of Duane for the Allman Brothers, and to the music world in general. Certain people simply can not be replaced. LS was as was many great bands were, the collective being so much greater than the individual pieces added separately. All we can do is enjoy the music they created, and be eternally grateful for it. I challenge any male to listen to Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama and not feel a rush of adrenaline come over them, to drive and not feel the urge to depress your foot on the accelerator pedal, or to want to kick ass.

      Lynyrd Skynyrd's One More From the Road is in my humble opinion, along with the Allman Brother's Live from the Filmore East, are the greatest live albums ever produced. Skynyrd sounded great live, even better than in studio, more energy, and that is something few bands can lay claim to, particularly since many bands music is over dubbed and over produced, so that they have a difficult time reproducing their sound live. No problem for LS. They didn't lip sink their concerts, that I can guarantee.
