I'd watch that but overall I worry about the design and delivery of the alien species, and there are so many important alien characters. If it's not done well it will look effing awful. Can't help feeling I would have more confidence if they announced a very high quality animation. I lean to the pessimistic unfortunately.

Mixture of detective story, thriller and military sci-fi, relationships between factions with different world views, technologies from a lost ancient civilization, mysterious alien threat for all known life and so on. nah, the events of the First Contact War are a gimmie. you've got Anderson, Seren, General Williams, AND Jack Harper (the illusive man) all in the same place, facing the same events and taking different lessons and consequences away from it. all events and characters that heavily impact the trilogy, while being a canon "blank spot" where not all that much is known.
@@shawngillogly6873 the problem with adapting Shepard is that Shepard is so customized. and people (with reason) are tremendously protective of THEIR Shep. some are femshep all the way, while others will go to the wall for mshep. either way they cast shepard (male or female) half the fanbase is going to *riot*. and that's not even getting into the backstories. only about 1/18th of the fanbase AT BEST is going to see THEIR shepard on screen. and the rest of the fans are going to be PISSED that THEIR specific shepard isn't "canon". the mass effect books don't cover Shepard and their adventures (either pre or during the events of the trilogy) for a reason, only mentioning them in passing. focusing on Anderson sidesteps those issues, not to mention as a canon black man he ticks "diversity" boxes that people might object to Shepard filling.

The game state feels empty to the point where if Elganaan kills off my team, I honestly wouldn't care. Maybe next year when the saviors over on Nexus corrects the many mistakes veilguard has made.
It should follow Anderson. Have a little childhood backstory stuff, then go to him joining Alliance military, then First Contact War, meeting Saren, events up until ME1. It would need probably several seasons, but that would be really cool because we get snippets of his past in the games, but there are plenty of gaps to fill. Maybe even a young Illusive Man could show up (I think he fought in the First Contact War). Having a story that doesn't revolve around the main character of the games might be a hard sell but look at how they tried to retell Geralt's and Master Chief's stories and did a shit job. One thing Fallout excelled at was by not recreating one of the games and instead telling a new story. I hope the Mass Effect show can go that same route but having it in the past would eliminate the problem of making certain in-game choices canon, like how the Prydwen could be destroyed in Fallout 4 but appears in the show.
I kinda wish they'd circle back to the rumored Henry Cavill Mass Effect idea, but he's probably too busy with the Voltron movie, Highlander reboot, and the Warhammer series at Amazon.

My main concern is the name behind borderlands, ghost in the Shell, etc. Amazon has already worked on The Expanse. Giving those creatives the same show was the most obvious idea ever!

So far Amazon did deliver with stuff like Fallout of The Expanse, but safer to keep hopes low, since anything related to Bioware recently seems to carry some sort of curse
Until we learn and see more about this project, there's still Battlestar Galactica and The Expanse as the closest to a live action Mass Effect that we'll ever get.

It seems hit or miss with Amazon, sometimes you get great shows like Invincible or Fallout. However, then you also get shows like Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, both beloved IPs that focus on the message rather than telling a good story. So up in the air.
A mutibranching RPG with a high focus on personal customization and choice being adapted into a linear TV show? Perfect format to adapt folks. If it follows the games then they have a huge uphill battle to do. If it just happens to take place in the ME universe with no other connections then I think there could be potential.
yeah stright adaptation sounds like a bad road. I would say not necessarily no connections. there are many side plots not involving shepard and crew. one example would be we never saw challenges of andromeda initiative before lunching to their journey.
Since Mass Effect was the beginning of the end of cRPG at Bioware, starting the shift toward story based action games without actual choices that affect anything, using an illusionary skill system to fake it as a RPG-like... I can see how this makes sense. Good luck!

Until we learn and see more about this project, there's still Battlestar Galactica and The Expanse as the closest to a live action Mass Effect that we'll ever get.
The Expanse was run by Amazon half way through anyway. Why couldn't they just give those guys Mass Effect? 😭
@existentialselkath1264 it also had lots of visual and story elements that straight up reminded me of Mass Effect, sometimes it almost felt like a prequel.

It seems hit or miss with Amazon, sometimes you get great shows like Invincible or Fallout. However, then you also get shows like Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, both beloved IPs that focus on the message rather than telling a good story. So up in the air.
A mutibranching RPG with a high focus on personal customization and choice being adapted into a linear TV show? Perfect format to adapt folks. If it follows the games then they have a huge uphill battle to do. If it just happens to take place in the ME universe with no other connections then I think there could be potential.
yeah stright adaptation sounds like a bad road.
I would say not necessarily no connections. there are many side plots not involving shepard and crew. one example would be we never saw challenges of andromeda initiative before lunching to their journey.

yo Amazon and MGM have some pretty cool tv shows. i want to hope this is good news!
Since Mass Effect was the beginning of the end of cRPG at Bioware, starting the shift toward story based action games without actual choices that affect anything, using an illusionary skill system to fake it as a RPG-like... I can see how this makes sense.
