Thank you for sharing your tips. I’m going to get me or should I say my orchids some Espoma garden lime. Do you use cal mag with it also? Happy new year and God bless you. 🤗 🎆
Hi Shirley! :) Yes, I also use CalMag with the garden lime. Every time I water...except when I'm flushing the pots every month. Blessings to you and your family!
I appreciate you so much. I have never been good with orchids so I'll be binge watching your orchid videos in my free time. I have been telling my husband I wanted to get an orchid and try again since I'm well into houseplants now and do pretty good with them now. Well, a nice lady in our town passed away and she had three orchids and some other plants. Her family reached out to me to see if I wanted them as they aren't good with plants so now I have some special plants to care for.
It is so great to have you back, with all of your marvelous tips and wonderful views of your amazing plants 🌱 I follow a lot of your advice and I'm now seeing my orchids respond 😀
Thanh you again for the great and helpful tips on growing healthy orchids. Thank you too for your well wishes. May 2021 be a happy and healthy year for you and your family. Amy
Happy New Year Amy! I wish you nothing but the best in 2021. We just need to continue filling our homes and lives with the things that bring us joy! 🙋♀️🎉 Tammy in N AL.
Blessings to you & your family as well. Thank you for your video, great info my niece is becoming interested in orchids. I’ve passed along your info & sites.
🎋 Awesome tips Amy! NZ spaghum moss in vented pots is all I use here in my Arid climate. They grow very, very well for me "from my experience" for anyone wanting to know. Blessings sent from Arizona 🎋
Hi Sharon! NZ sphagnum moss is just awesome! Thanks for sharing how you grow in Arizona and for helping everyone who grows in your area of the US! Bless you my friend! :)
That's a great tip! Using the Garden lime on the orchid bark! I use it for my Hydrangeas and it never crossed my mind to use it to alkalize the bark. Thanks for sharing! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you, Orchid Whisperer and your family! 🥰 Amy, I have a question regarding Epsom salt. When I found your channel two years ago, I remember you used a pinch of it in your fertilizer “tea”. I see now you don’t mention it. Have you stopped using it? Thanks a bunch....have a blessed day!
Thanks so much, sweet friend! That's a good question! I stopped using Epsom salt when I started using CalMag and Espoma garden lime regularly. I don't want to overdo it, and I haven't seen any sign of deficiency at all. Many blessings! :) Amy
How often do you repot orchids if they are in Newzealand S.moss and do you need to adjust the PH of feeds in moss growing? Happy new year to you & family. May 2021 bring you, health, happiness and wealth.🌸❤️
Hi Sue and thanks so much for your sweet comment! :) I repot when the orchid outgrows its pot, as long as the moss still looks good. This moss is very long lasting. I use R/O water, and I don't adjust the pH of my fertilizer recipe. Happy New Year and thank you for the blessings! :)
Amy, new sub here. Just found your channel. I also live in NE Tennessee It would be funny if you lived near me I live in Johnson City. Near Bristol. We had about 4 inches up here. Someone gave me an orchid a few months ago and I don't know the species. Right now it's whimpy. I cleaned it up and through some research I have it suspended above water with a bag over it for humidity. Only one long root is touching the water. Would you say that it's correct? I think it was dehydrated. Happy New Year to you.
Hi East TN neighbor! :) Welcome to my channel! Just curious...are you a beginner orchid grower or have you been growing for a while? Water culture can be a tough way to grow, even for an experienced grower. And I don't recommend placing bags over orchids...it can lead to rot, from my experience. Happy 2021!
@@OrchidWhisperer hey to you. I was given this 4 or 5 leaf orchid from someone at church. My husband doesn't remember who. It was on a table. It's probably a phalaenopsis. I am beginner. I saw a video and they said plastic bag for humidity. But I can see too much can cause rot. When I cleaned it it had about 5 good green roots. I snipped the dead off. I have it suspended in a Mason jar with a little water with no root in water. It was very wimpy but it seems it is getting stiffer. When should I put it in a pot. I have sphgmn moss in my yard. Could I use some? Thank you for the reply. It means alot.
@@littlefeather9709 I wouldn't suggest you use the moss in your yard. You can bring in bugs...it's not worth the risk. Buy premium orchid grade moss like what I show in this video. I have a repotting playlist, some with bark and some with moss that will help you. Don't get discouraged...a damaged orchid is hard for even an experienced grower to handle. I grew MANY orchids before I had success. Happy growing!
Humidifier temperature? Is it ok to run humidifier in the same room with steps, AF, and orchids? New Hampshire winter temps vary from 50 degrees to 0 degrees. Temps drop to 60 degrees at night.
Hi! I try to keep the humidity in my sunroom around 35% in the winter...not too high, because I can't sustain it above that level. If you have steps, you'll have to check and make sure it doesn't condense and make things slippery. AFs do well with that humidity, too. I don't let my sunroom go below 65 degrees in the winter.
I love your videos and learn so much from your experiences. I have a question about frequency of lime. If using the orchiata bark you said to wait 6 months after initial use. How often do you use the lime after that. And with the BetterGro mix how often do you use the lime and how much??
Greetings from Maine, where we haven't had a white Christmas in years, here on the coast! :( I do have a question. I watch a lot of Miss Orchid Girl as well, and I really like the idea of mixing a bit of sphagnum moss through the bark to draw and retain moisture throughout the pot. What would you suggest regarding the Lime in this situation? Thank you for your lovely tutorials and sharing your experiences. Happy New Year, and God bless! ♡
Hi! I don't mix bark and moss in my area...it just doesn't work for me. From my experience, the moss doesn't like the lime. You could try it on one orchid and see if you like the results. Happy New Year! :)
Happy New Year to you and yours as well! May our Heavenly Father bless all of you and watch over you! I have a question. How do you feel about using live spaghnum moss? I am going to try it with my Neofinetia.
Hi! I think live sphagnum moss is awesome, and I would certainly give it a try! Please keep me posted...I think this is a great idea! Happy New Year and thank you for the blessings! :)
@@OrchidWhisperer I definitely will! I am adamantly watching your videos and learning. I figured out this morning that I have two Phalaenopsis that I believe I need to try water culture on as I am trying to save them but they seem stressed as their newest leaves grew small, smaller by quite a bit than their bottom leaves. I have also learned from you to leave spikes on.
@@vanessaowen1455 If the newer leaves on your Phalaenopsis grew smaller than the older ones, it's usually a sign that they need more fertilizer and light. It doesn't necessarily mean they're stressed. It takes time for them to adjust to water culture, so that may stress them. Blessings!:)
Hi! Great video. I got my second orchid for Christmas and now I'm torn (and confused) between growing in bark vs moss. What do you prefer? I thought moss was bad because it kept air from the roots but my orchid now in bark is so top heavy and floppy- though it has bloomed.
Hi Kristen! I have a repotting playlist that will help you. I love growing in both bark and moss, but since your orchid is already in bark, you'll have an easier time repotting in bark. Thanks so much for watching and I wish you lots of growing success! :)

Thank you for the informational video. How do you use Garden Lime. Do you just put it on top of the medium. How much per pot do you use ?
Hi and thanks for watching! I apply the garden lime to the medium. On small pots, about 1/4 teaspoon, medium pots about 1/3 teaspoon. Happy growing!
