Welcome back. I was wondering what happened. I like many others have learned and still learning from you on growing orchids. Thank you for sharing the information on media and fertilizing. Enjoy your orchids and have a great day.
Thank you for your help. One of my pals is struggling a bit after planting in orchiata (but always been in bark). I checked her roots and there are the tiniest new root tips starting. Re-potted her gently and blew her a kiss and popped her in a sheltered sunny position and told her to “grow baby grow “ 😀
Glad to have you back! Your videos inspired me to try out semi-water culture. So far its working out well with new roots and leaves. Your videos about fertilising in water culture are so helpful 😁
AWWW, thank you for coming back to grace us with all your wisdom. Your voice is so soothing and kind sounding, I could listen to you talk all day. Look forward to all the future videos you make! Thanks Faye
I’ve also been growing orchids for over 20 years as well. I find myself paying more attention to the root grow over anything else. Great video by the way.
Oh, I just discovered you are BACK! Thank Goodness! I have been so worried. I have kept checking TH-cam every so often. So happy to hear your voice and your terrific information and wonderful plants. You coming back is such a great occurrence in this difficult year of 2020!
So glad to hear from you again with lots of wisdom. Very valuable information and best of all from you. Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge again.
I started my water culture with my phal in May 2019, followed your tips... Got my first blooming in November. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences in water culture.
I really appreciate that you are willing to use different growing mediums. Some people insist on only one kind of method works, but you let the plants tell you what they like. I put a very unhappy cattleya into moss and she went crazy with new roots!!
Oh my goodness, I seen your first video since you came back Amy. I was so worried about you. I know alot of us have been. I was so excited when you popped up on my phone today. So Happy your back. God Bless you 🙏 ❤
I’m very , very happy that you decided to come back Amy. Thank you for coming back we admire you and we love you and I don’t want you to leave again 😊. I have been growing orchids sense I was 12 or 11 years old, I am currently 15 years old right now.
Thank you Amy! It feels so great to hear your voice, to see your beautiful orchids, and to learn and take notes! ☺️ I do have a couple of orchids that I need to investigate their roots and figure out what they need. As always, wonderful video. ☺️💕 Tammy in N AL.
Hi from Texas!! So glad you’re back! I’ve followed all of your directions for my Christmas cactus that I inherited from my granny 💕. It’s thriving and starting to get buds. Looking forward to seeing more videos and see how your Christmas cactus’ are doing!
Wow those orchids and those roots. I really love and appreciate very much the sharing of your wisdom through the years, in your calm voice. Everything you’ve said here and over the years out of your experience is all true. Thank you for your sincerity in sharing all the tips. As you always say to us, the thing that I realize with having orchids is to be patient, and persevere, and be prepared to be disappointed and lose some, and though shall be eventually rewarded.
🎋You have so much wisdom yourself just like your grandmother. God bless you Amy and just thrilled to have you back! Looking forward to maybe some Vanda tips in the future. I now have 5 Vanda's (my fav.) Had none when you're videos stopped last year. Sharon in Arizona 🎋
I agree with you 🌸!! Over the years I've learned to listen to my orchids! Some definitely like the spag moss/ bark mix and some like pure spag moss. I have a couple that love water culture and wouldn't want it any other way!
Amy, have been praying you would come back. I followed all your videos previously and was lost when you stopped. So exciting to see what you’ve done. I have been growing orchids for 15 years. I also went from bark to full water culture and when you switched to sphagnum, so did I. They have done great in Sphagnum for 2 years or more without repotting (except a few small ones that outgrow their pots). Have 5 phals that are spiking and two with double spikes. When repotting this coming Spring if roots have rotted should I switch to orchida bark? I grow indoors under lights. So happy you’re back!!!
Hi and thanks so much for your sweet comment! :) It sounds like your orchids are doing really well in sphagnum moss! I would continue to grow them in moss since they're doing so well. I'm growing all my mini phals in sphagnum and one of my older large phals loves it too. Just keep growing them in moss if they're happy in it. Blessings!
Hi Amy! How’s your assistant (daughter)😊... can’t wait for the series. I still mainly grow Phal with the exception of one catasetum. Our orchid society meetings have been canceled due to COVID19.. for some time! It’s really good to hear from you. Thank you for posting again!
Hi Charla! My daughter is doing very well, thanks for asking! She's 20 years old now and a karate apprentice instructor! Great hearing from you... blessings to you! :)
Your orchids in water culture will be fine...change out the water the day before you leave. For the ones in media, water the day before and leave a little bit of water in the dish. Mine do fine for a week. Happy growing!
Hi i experimented with water culture agyer seeing your videos for my phals and they do wonderfull. I live in a tropical island We donot have calmag. That we can use as fertilizer. Can you recommend an organic alternative . I have problems with my dendrobium. They donot flower though they do give new shoots. Any advice. Thanks
Hi! You can try garden lime as an alternative calcium source. I use Epsoma brand. Try dissolving just a pinch of it in some warm water before adding it to your WC. Dens are easy to grow, but sometimes hard to get to bloom. Move them to a sunnier location and see if that helps. Blessings! :)
I have unfortunately learned the hard way...killed my share of orchids by listening to “people” instead of my orchids. Changing them from medium to water- shocking them into root rot...never to recover to their old selves or dying completely. Too much water in water water culture( again, following someone else’s water culture rules, killed two of Phals😢; one of my Vandas...Now I’m simply afraid to disturb them. I know I need to look at their roots after bringing them home from a buyer, but what do I do afterwards - water or medium? Help? I’ll be getting a new batch soon.
I (WE) have missed you dearly...welcome back! 💚🌸💚💜💚🌸💚

If you're not sure, I would recommend bark. :)
Which bark medium do you prefer?
Orchiata bark is the BEST. It's expensive, but worth it! :)
I didn't see you for a whale.welcom back.
