@Will Phelps Totally in the same boat with you. I've been around and on motorcycles since I was born 64 years back. Dad owned HDs, Indians, Japanese bikes, a Vespa, a HD 45 trike, and many more through the years. I started riding at 12 on a 1971 Honda SL70 and have ridden any and everything that came my way since then. In the world I grew up in, the term biker referred to 1%ers. I always considered myself a rider or motorcyclist. I've corrected a lot of people that called me aa biker. I'm not a biker and don't want to be one.

in 1966, my pal and i were building indian choppers in the basement. we were kids; didn't even have licenses. back then, harleys and indians could be bought for under $200. because NOBODY wanted them. they were yet to be mainstreamed. so, that's the time period when what i call 'bikers' roamed the earth. we'd ride our bicycles down to revere beach (boston) to see the bikers eat footlongs and clam rolls. by their real home made choppers. but that's MY time. the modern biker doesn't fascinate me. their bikes don't fascinate me. but MY time is only my time. everybody has a different 'old school'. no problem.

change is inevitable and unstoppable, its exactly the way you put it, every person has better memories and comfort from "their time..." Doesn't mean as we age out of those times, that others or us have the right to make this world a more uncomfortable place by putting our judgments or opinions on others, and one can carry that into all aspects of daily life. The world would be a better place for sure. Ill keep doing me, and only care about me and gets me up each day to hop on my bike and smile!

The area I live in is a good 80 percent Harley's, they don't wear helmets, don't wave at rice burners, wear all black, and don't ride when it gets cold out. But their real bikers, I just laugh at them, been riding 54 years, English, Japanese, and Harley. As long as your head is in the wind it's a cool thing. And I wear a full face helmet and Honda windbreaker on my Electra Glide just to aggravate the real bikers.haha

I don't care what "biker" means to anyone. I've got the beard, tattoos and Harley. I saved for 14 years to buy my 20 Breakout 114. I'm fortunate enough to have a very good earning job and be married to a woman who has the same. I ride as much as possible, but I like that I can take my car if the weather sucks. I work on my bike as much as possible, but I like being able to afford whatever repairs or custom bits that my warranty doesn't cover. My Harley is therapy. My very first paying job where they took out taxes at 16 was at a Harley Davidson Dealership. I saved an bought my first Harley a new 1982 Superglide. I was 24 years old. I now have a 2002 Road King. Some things I can do and repair, some I'd rather have a professional take care of for me and just pay them. For some guys and girls, lifestyle and attitude come as a package with the motorcycle. Begins innocently enough, but for some it takes a bad turn. Riders who negatively label other riders miss out on quite a lot of shared motorcycling passion and joy.

Thank you for your comments on biking. People who make unkind remarks and label people take a lot of energy to know and it is generally not worth it. The battle going on is between our outer ego and our inner spirit. Ego can ruin the spirit of riding. A good riding experience can be a spiritual thing, joyful. Riding for ego can be judgmental and even dangerous. If you like riding motorcycles, you're a biker.

The age old question. It seems that everyone has their own idea of what being a "BIKER" is. There are really multiple biker cultures. I have also been labeled a RUB. No one has any idea of who I am. I have been riding for over 50 years but, along the way I have been very successful and have traveled the world. I live in Florida now with Mrs Geezer semi retired. You just have to ignore the kids. I found out I have underwear older than most of the critics. Interesting conversation. I just subscribed to your channel.

Yes, this is just a topic that is as you said, age old and is always brought up from time to time and is interesting from others perspectives in the different age ranges, as well as to put a mirror to others faces to see just how wrong it is to judge or not embrace everyone!!! Come on - “That Guy” driving a $60,000 Jeep with a lift, huge tires, a high lifter Jack strapped to the hood, and another $15k in off road mods, BUT perfect paint, not a speck of dust , and NO evidence that he’s ever taken the Jeep off-road, or ever will. People don't know my name but they just go oh you're the Beamer guy. When you have to get to work you have to get to work. I once rode through a torrential downpour to an unemployment hearing when I got to the office the guy said you wrote and dished here and I said yeah I had to for my unemployment and he didn't even look at my paperwork you just said the fact that you rode here that's good enough for me. The fake bikers chose their Harleys in their toy hauler behind their half million-dollar motorhome on their way to some bike party so they could say that they are real biker. Like you, I live in Canada (in Manitoba) and I will ride as soon as the sand is off the roads until the snow flies again. Labels are childish. It doesn't matter how we describe ourselves (biker, rider, whatever) we're all having a great time indulging in something we love to do. I personally don't care what people ride. Harley, Yamaha, Honda, Indian, Kawasaki etc etc. I will wave to everyone, stop to help anyone and even break bread with them. Its about the experience and the road stories. I could care less if someone works on their ride. Is it a good thing to do your own basic maintenance? Sure, if you have the space and tools. As riders we need to look at the bigger picture. Ridership is decreasing for a bunch of reasons. As riders we should be encouraging people to ride, not label or criticize people for their bike of choice, how/when they ride or don't ride. Who cares how many kms they ride in a season. They're riding. We're riding. We should be setting a better example to encourage others to take up the hobby or lifestyle or whatever you want to call it. Labels suck, especially the ones with negative vibes.

I remember when Malcolm Forbes of Forbes Magazine was the only Rich biker anybody ever knew if you pulled up to a country club in the old days on a full-dress Harley-Davidson they would call the SWAT team on you. Status symbol was a Cadillac a Lincoln not a Harley. In the old days only motorcycle nuts had motorcycles and only Harley nuts had Harleys. Now everybody has a Harley and they're usually out front in the driveway with a for sale sign. Harley is drowning and repossession because so many of the posers who bought Harley's at ridiculous prices with ridiculous interest rates have let them become repossessed because they're not interested in playing biker at bike night anymore.

I did not get an auto license until I was 23 because of a girl who complained, I used to to call autos, Cagers. been through a 1974 K model 750 Honda as my first new bike, three sport bikes, 4 rebuilt sporsters, 2018 I bought a new Kawasaki Zed 900 naked. I still only have a motorcycle by choice, now and for the first time have the cash for a NEW V-TWIN AT A RETIRED 67 YEARS OLD... my first choice is the Lowrider S, sadly not sure if harley will be the one and I waited a lifetime to own a new one and not sure I want to support their new business model. also looking into the Indian Darkhorse Chief, When I told them I am keeping my Zed 900, no trade in and NO FINANCE it seems they lost interest. So in the next month we shall see. Am I a biker? I don't care... just want to be in the wind till I can't on a new V-twin if they don't mind cash? I enjoy your work and style. Thanks, will subscribe.

Wow such an inspiring commentary. Thank you very much for your support and you are exactly how I wish to see things and to enjoy my aged years.. I went back to Harley after a 5-6 yr break, it’s still a feeling I can’t describe, nor am I willing to let go. As my body and the weather allows, it will be how and where I spend my time. Thank you for your interest and support 🤟🏼❤️

i dont, thus the reason I ride what I ride, and do what i want. Im at an age where these things are trivial, I'm just trying to raise awareness and sensititivity to such poor behaviour and hopefully highlighting whats important.. Each day smile and appreciate it.

@Kilts MC Montreal congratulations! The debate on who is and who isn't a biker has been going on for a couple decade's. What I've found 99% of people making comments like you're not a biker, don't ride and probably never will. In my opinion a "biker" is someone that's rides, someone that enjoys riding, someone that doesn't agree with the ways of society all the time. Someone that's a free thinker. A person that's hard to shove bs down their throat.

But I told them I had no idea because I have never watched the show then I asked why they asked. They told me that I dressed like someone from the show. I thought bikers wore vests with patches and motorcycles don't. Biker is some sort of take on the hard core MC's or TV show MC's and bikers try to emulate that life style or TV heroes or Harley bad boy, freedom loving marketing ploy. Motorcyclists just ride to have a good time and the majority don't care what others think.
