These two very fine tenors thrilled Dame Sutherland...I could see it in her eyes. She knew very fine singing when she heard it! Every tenor is not Pavarotti...but that does not mean that fine singing isn't represented here to honor the one and only Dame Sutherland. We should give credit to those who warm our hearts rather than compete, i believe.
Talking about an audience that is for the likes of elton John and the rolling stones. They gave a piss poor acknowledgment to Martha Argerich back in '16 as well.
French is not everyone's forte. It was after all --television. And they are working people..With schedules set year's in advance. Yes the tempo was a bit slow...I can't sing it..so I enjoyed what others could.
Oddly enough they often have trouble filling the space. I know for a fact that even when there is a STATE dinner at the White House they have to make an effort to get the seats filled. No one cares..
Thank you so much for posting this tribute, as well as the other, to Dame Joan Sutherland; molto grazie!

Kathleen Hazeldine are you serious? Two very fine tenor???
Hampson is a baritone!
Where were all the protege sopranos who Joan paved the way for? She deserved more of a tribute than this

LOL when the announcer describes Paul Groves and Thomas Hampson as Joan's 'colleagues' she must have been like "What? These Amateurs? please"
Fantastico!
Hey look.....two tenors singing "Au fond du temple saint".
p.s. this duet from the Pearl Fishers has been a family favorite for years.
They both look like they're in pain. I miss Joan's singing!
PG is cute as a button.
Thank you for posting this. Is it possible to buy the video?
@Kent169 Believe me I'm well aware Paul Groves and Thomas Hampson aren't amateurs. You should probably investigate something called humor...

But the duet is not complete!
Please forgive, but why did they have these minor league singers to celebrate a major league voice? What an insult...
uh....French pronunciation please......Temple, not TIMPLE
I'd like it a bit faster
I do not like this audience!!! what is wrong with them!!!!
Oddly enough they often have trouble filling the space. I know for a fact that even when there is a STATE dinner at the White House they have to make an effort to get the seats filled. No one cares..
Was this the best they could find to honor her musically? Oy vey.
