    some people cut the bottom of the mini sawyer bag, scoop the water up and roll the top down. Just as you would with a dry bag. I've never done it though. Maybe I've got to try that with an old(ish) bag.

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm I like that idea, get some good pressure on it! I kind of roll up the bags when I'm using it through anyway, like a toothpaste tube. Or get them in-between the thighs and squeeze

    Anyone looking for a nice small, packable but capable stove take a look at the BRS-3000T, under £15 and it's been with me about 3 years now. Also for a water bladder that the Sawyer fits onto have a look at the Cnoc Vecto, it has a wide mouth opening which makes it super simple to fill

    Great video! Loved the water boiling race! Another option for water purification is using a steri pen (UV light). Works well for sterilization, but you still need to filter in order to get rid of the sediment.

    Enjoying your vids Barry! I am the same as you and learnt through trial and error. I use the Alpkit Kraku and Mytipot for cooking, If I want to go ultra light I'll use the Myticup and boil water with that and pour into dehydrated meals. I then use the cup to drink out of after boiling more water. I'm missing this bikepacking thing since the lockdown but hopefully more adventures lie ahead once we're in safer times.

    Hey up, Episode 7 was ace! I watched a video you done last year, you scooped water out of the Loch and then filtered it. I was thinking it's not running water, but A) Scotland and B) You filtered it too. Would you only filter out of Scottish Lochs or would you also drink out of Tarns (even the midge fest one just out of Wastwater on Jennride? I'm really happy you put the actual clip of that exact scene in and spoke about it. One thing, you know you use the cup to fill the bottle....then you put the filtered water back in the cup, would that be only beneficial when you are filling the bottle as then your cup is technically dirty? Keep em coming, this is a fantastic series!

    • @barrygodin7538
      @barrygodin7538  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thanks :-) Yes I would drink out of that tarn, it is a very large body of water. We camped just on the river that came out of that tarn and filtered that and live to tell the tale :-) I understand the dirty cup thing, I also and not the best at keeping only clean or dirty water in those bottles. I think I do a lot to try and keep safe, more so than I did at the start, and haven't been ill since (touch wood) and I have drunk some very brown water :-) Thats one of the benefits of those bottles being blue and not clear, you can't see what you are drinking, haha

      Thanks so much Angela, so glad you are learning from them ;-) I just try and put as many tips as I know in to a small space of time, haha. Yeah the pocket rocket is so much better than the Kraku, but the alp kit one is smaller and fits in that cooking set, which when i explain where i goes on my bike, it will make sense. But that pocket rocket is a brilliant stove

    Another great video Barry, glad to see someone else also still has the first generation pocket rocket and a good old KFS clip set!! I've seen the sea to summit cups in shops and will be honest and say I thought they look a bit naff. But having now seen that it works perfectly as a lid for the MytiMug, i'm going to get one and see how they are! I always found it really annoying trying to lift the lid off the Alpkit Ti Mugs as they get so warm and the handle is tiny!. Which size of the Alpkit mug is that? I've got two sizes, one fits nicely inside the other which is great if you want to take a bit more cooking space. I often pack spare socks in the mugs just to stop things rattling around (very hygienic I know). I think you ned to add a set of the titanium chopsticks to the kit, maybe not ideal for cuppa soup though.

      Haha, I don't often :-) Its just this small tool I can't find over here, in fact, never seen before, that someone recommended www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminum-Alloy-Bike-Bicycle-Tire-Levers-Master-Link-Chain-Pliers-Wheel-Pry-Tool/133401856951?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200514085150%26meid%3D232a6798f1614289b0fbae0d5db934fa%26pid%3D101198%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D9%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D372841066640%26itm%3D133401856951%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWebWithBBEV1Filter%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c101198.m1985
      Just had a look at that honey stove! It looks really nice. Do you have any experience with it?
      Yes this tense feeling that the bottle might heat up too much :-) But just in case you didn't see comment below. Someone has recommended pegging the stove using small tent pegs to the ground to stop it flying about with the stiff hose, great idea!
      Thanks so much Alex
