    A tip about making fruit leather in the dehydrator: remove it from the tray when it is still a little bit warm. It is more pliable this way and easier to remove. I put a thin coating of oil on the tray first to prevent sticking. Coconut oil works well. I like to do applesauce blended with other fruits. It gives a really nice fruit leather texture. I have found that cooking spray like PAM does not work well. It gives an off flavor after so many hours of cooking in the dehydrator. Hope this helps someone! I love my dehydrator and do dehydrated pears every summer. ❤️😊

    • @username00009
      @username00009 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Even plain applesauce is delicious! It’s been years since I’ve made fruit leather because the little one is not so little now, but I used parchment paper and didn’t need to oil it.

    We love dehydrating watermelon! That’s what we do with every storebought watermelon that isn’t super sweet - the dehydrator removes all the water and leaves just the sweetness and the disappointing watermelons taste 100x better!

    I use food processor with the slicer blade on it to cut up stuff for the dehydrator. You can still use the fruit if it's cut up thinner, it just takes less time to dry out. If you get a BIG can of pineapple circles you can and pat them dry and dehydrate those too. Quick and easy. Tastes like candy.

    I just bought a cotton candy maker, same idea, different style. My friends and I have a lot of parties, so I thought it would be cool to have cotton candy. I actually didn't have any sugar or hard candies when it came but I desperately wanted to try it so I just used some of the organic sugar I have lol.
    BTW, in case anyone is wondering, it melts the sugar and then it gets flung out through the bottom of the spinner part. Since it's very thin it cools as it hits the air basically, leaving threads of sugar =)

    Get an apple peeler,corer and slicer. The old fashion ones that you center the apple and set the peeler then turn the crank. It takes about 20 minutes or less to fill the dehydrator. Store in glass ball jars (Large ones) Great snacks for kids and if no one is eating the fruit dehydrate it. Basil and other herbs from the garden. Think about it. Have the kids help. If you like the roll ups just get a few more trays to make more.

    Floss (and other brands) make a blue-raspberry cotton candy sugar. When I was a teenager I worked at Showbiz/Chuck E. Cheese and one of my jobs was to make cotton candy. It was always fun, but SUPER messy. I'd come home from work with cotton candy webs all over my clothes, hair, and skin. A couple of tips... you can let the cotton candy build up on the sides of the machines for a bit and then use your cone to gather it up and swirl - that makes it a little easier to get the bigger poofs; and you can also re-use the hard bits of sugar that stick to the round sides of the container.

    Home made dehydrated fruits like apples, apricots, and pears are very popular in Ukraine. We eat them as snacks in winter and use for "uzvar" beverage. Also it's a popular snack for kids.
    All my relatives have dehydrators at home. We purchased our own last year and did a lot of dried fruit, as well as herbs (dill, parsley, basil) and tomatoes (it's perfect for sun dried tomatoes).

      Oh, and we never peel fruits like apples and pears. Fruit skin is very rich in vitamins and fiber. Just slice it 2-3mm wide and that's it.

    The “gummy” candy maker reminds me of the jello jigglers, which is basically mellow with more gelatin to water ratio. They can be made in different shapes, either in candy molds, or by cutting shapes.
