    Hello Dan
I was wondering, did you find the problem causing the Misfire on cylinder 4 and have you fixed it?
because im having a problem every now and then on Cylinder 4 in my E39 M52TU 2.8L
and it dosent seem to be coils/plugs/wireing.
and i the only code the scanner is throwing me is F1 - misfire cyl 4.
    no other codes at all
i dont have the tools to do a compression test at the moment, but im thinking of buying one.
Could you point me in some sort of direction here?
i dont know what to do from here :)

Yes I did! It had a burnt exhaust valve.
Have you tried switching spark plugs and or coils with another cylinder?

and i tried switching coils, without luck,
But the problem is, that the car dosent misfire all the time, just every now and then, when it runs ''normal'' i runs really great
thats whats confusing the heck out of me :)

Ok then. Go to a GM dealer and get a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. It made by ACdelco and it’s kinda pricey but it works the best. Add it to your tank of gas as directed.
You must have carbon build up on your piston rings or valves. This will help clean that off.
