      Don’t be a jerk. This man had some coins graded and experienced what every one of us has - disappointing results. But the difference between he and you is that he takes it in stride and you have the audacity to make fun of him on his own post.

    Technically all toning is "environmental damage" (corrosion) but for traditional grading purposes it's been once the original surfaces are impacted (pitted) it becomes Environmental Damage. It doesn't always have to be pitted, coins that have fire damage can also grade ED without pitting because the luster gets lost at temperature.

    Scraped is different than scratched. It means it has an abrasion(s) somewhere on the coin instead of scratch(s) line(s) etc.

    Enjoy your videos. I have found i have to put every coin under microscope to see any scraches, pvc, damage, and see any wear and how much wear to determine grade. Take any wear i see and look at at least 3 graded coins on ebay with the same wear and i get an accurate grade to what i researched on almost every coin I get back from grading. Most every coin at brick and mortar coin shops and online that are raw are at least 1 to 2 grades over graded than even what is considered the inflated grading years of pcgs and ngc. I have found them to be even 3 grades over graded. Seen it from hundreds of dealers who are very reputable and members of tough organizations to get into. Ive learned to always look at graded coins before buying raw to determine the grade I am buying. Believe me it has cost thousands of dollars to get this education that im giving for free.

    Enviromental damage is when there is corrosion that shows surface bite or surface degradation which usually creates toning that is unpleasing to the eye as well as being terminal (eventually will go permanently black) to the coin. Light surface color toning with a pleasing eye appeal (rainbows etc) is also technically environmental damage but is considered by third party graders to be a natural process that is market acceptable or even market desirable. The TPGS have the final say in what is deemed Enviro Damage, Artificial toning, Altered surfaces or Altered color.

      I got a Corroded Large Cent with a Knob Strike Thru Error. I removed the Corrosion and sent it to PCGS, it is in Imaging right now. I hope it will come back Detail Polished. It has no pitting but has a couple dark spots that wont come off. Man that Corrosion stuff is hard to get off.
      I seen some using Questionable Toning lately. On West Tennessee Channel, his Chicken Coup Morgan Dollars.

    Education is expensive. Consider this tuition. That 1923 looks *too* bright, as if it has been over dipped. That's likely why it's listed as "cleaned".
    Thanks for the unboxing KY!

    The toning stuff is something I still haven't quite figured out either. Bummer on some of the details, but you have a lot of awesome stuff. Getting that bust dollar and 1893 to straight grade were definitely the big wins though!

    Love the video, love all of your videos.
    My take on grading companies...
    PCGS= ultra conservative
    NGC= conservative
    ANACS= middle of the road
    ICG= non-conservative
    PCI= ultra non-conservative
    Gotta think of the coin, think of its value, think of why you're grading it, then pick your grading service. Because they're not just messing with someone's hobby, they're messing with someone's money.
    Again, great video. Love your channel!

  • @michaelboone-kq4ir
    @michaelboone-kq4ir 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Entertaining video. You got a few straight grades but most were details which is not unusual. Not sure why you graded the common stuff. Maybe it’s your camera or the lighting but many of the dollars look way too bright which almost always means cleaned or polished. I would recommend reviewing your coins with a trusted coin dealer or two before submitting them.

    OMG that peace dollar is a shame. Unless it has PVC or corrosion, that is a beauty. Looks like a wicked end roller. Bust that thing out and see if it's pvc. Environmental damage isn't fair on that.

    1828 bust looks xylene dipped yesterday 😂 burned my eyes 👁️👁️. Never seen scrap. Go to LCDs and ask for PCGS rattlers. They are old PCGS undergraded cheap looking slabs. Forget Ebay. I like Flowing hair dollars and Busts Needless to say I don't have many. Also Spanish Galleon coins graded and wreck authenticated. Or metal detected on beach after a hurricane near Florida sites. ❤

    Why hide the grades???

  • @mawns
    @mawns 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    That it is a bad idea to restore coins without expert knowledge is obvious, but coins that has been cleaned without causing damage should not be downgraded.
    Same with toning: If it has an oxidized layer that has not actually changed the form of the coin, that should no be considered damage. No matter if it is black, pink or blue.

    I think theres too much rigamarole from people on CAC being "So much more professional and accurate" that the other grader's like pcgs are getting too picky. They've certainly been known to screw up a label. Those two peace dollars with different diagnosis on toning makes no sense though.

  • @musicman102357
    @musicman102357 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    If you knew that so many of these coins were cleaned or had other issues why bother wasting the money to send them in ? Anyone questioning why that 1923 Peace was graded as cleaned , it may not be obvious from the photos but in hand I would bet that it is . That 1830 Bust what you call wear was actually a soft strike as many bust halves had strike issues , you have to look at the overall coin not just one area. Why would you pay up for that 1828 Bust , it was obvious from the video at first sight that it was overly cleaned , and "harshly cleaned" is going to make it worth even less. The 1799 - nice coin and that was one of the few actually worth submitting.

    29:35....scrape not scrap. I don't think you're pronouncing the word correct?? Google the word scrape...."to pull/push something across the surface" - kinda like a scratch but broader. I've never seen them use that term either?🤔
