Hi Gil: My personal experience is limited to my studio primarily. The highest quality one I own is an AKG Perception 420. It's been a great mic and I'm glad I have it. I don't really do a lot of high def recording other than my videos and sometimes my students will use it during a lesson . I'm not informed about the mono vs stereo debate. Sorry I'm not able give you more help. I'm sure there are some mic experts on line that have some great insights and advice. Good luck.
Sir, you are a blessing. My singing has improved immensely in just a week by watching your videos. The fact that you are giving such detailed lessons for free warrants a standing ovation! God Bless you!!
this is SO INTERESTING! I am so glad to have some telling me, vibrato can be trained and not just, "it will come eventually when your breathing is good". Can't wait to feel the progress. Practiced a bit this evening and it's already working!
I love the fact that he kept the parts where his voice went off pitch,m and just smiled through it. Shows that he is a legit teacher that is human and can make mistakes. This is a lot better than a teacher that seems always perfect, which sets really unrealistic standards. So for keeping in all the “real” parts, thank you sir!
I have had a very uneven vibrato that I do by flexing and unflexing my abs. Now, not even half way through the video and I am able to make it sound more natural! You really are the best!!
OMFG I'VE FINALLY FOUND THE BEST SINGING TEACHER ON TH-cam FOR MEEEEE~~~~Eeee!!! The rest are all talk and they're already good singers to begin with! YOU'RE THE BEEE~~~Eeeestest CHUCK!!!!
Omg it worked ive only been singing for like a week thank you I just did them each back to back for like 10 mins each and kept repeating until I got it. I was scared it would take years to learn 😄
Awesome vid thanks. I was afraid of what i might sound like and i had no idea that before i began i remembered that i was making the car starting sound and didn't know it was a slowed down version of it. All i had to do was make it faster and using my stomach muscles. It was easy. Now all i have to do is find the good sound in my singing. Rather than sound like most growling music called black/death metal. I really want to sound on a pieceful note. Thank you again for the video!!!! I will save this to my fav 2 list i have. Please dont ever delete the videos!!! Im now subscribing!!!!
This is a great tutorial, I always feel so self conscious when practicing or trying for that matter but with this video I feel leaps and bounds more confident knowing that its something that can be trained.
i have watched at least 30 vibrato tutorials. for me this is the best tutorial! i finally have my inspiration back after being down about practicing vibrato! thanks a lot, sir
It feels so strange. I'm trying to get a vibrato for almost half a year now. I don't know why I can't get this. Maybe, that's kinda my feeling, I'm afraid of it? Because I never did something like this with my voice and I sang with too much pressure, I now am not able to get a vibrato easily..? I really think that I'm kinda scared of it, no matter how weird it sounds😅
You are right. We are scared of it sometimes. At first you have to make it happen. In time, the vocal cords start feeling it and will take over. You can do it!
@Madison DeCou Trying experimenting more and see what works. Maybe you're too tense, maybe you're pushing too much air out, maybe you're pushing too little, maybe you're trying to do it with your throat when you're more comfortable with using your diaphragm etc.
Power To Sing Greetings, sir! I had a problem recording myself using the recorder on your website but no worries, I did it using my phone's recorder instead...I can send it but I can't find your email address anywhere. How do I send it to you? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you!
I'm not a singer, i usually growl or scream and it's kinda not singing at least not the one we got used to. Over the years my voice got bit destroyed because of that, but i still managed to get vibrato in 20 minutes after watching this. God Lord i'm sooo surprised! THANK YOU for the video!
I wish I found this video when I first started learning vibrato... They were super helpful tips that definitely could've helped me to speed up progress.
Sir, thank you very much for your selfless, dedicated work toward singing lovers I am from India watched all video and learnt so much I am running 67 years but passing with your music video all the day I have stated one music club our 110 members everyday watch your video from TH-cam Hope to learn with fun
Finally, someone who actually gives exercises. You earned a subscriber just from this video. I can actually tell what the hell I need to do just from following along the first time and felt a small hint of actual vibrato. *Other channels:* "just relax, breathe right, keep singing and it'll magically show up." *Me:* I've been breathing my whole life, singing for 9/10ths of it and I'm almost 50. It ain't going to just magically "show up." 🤨
thank you so much! like, seriously. i've always wanted to be a singer. tbh, i went through a lot of tough stuff throughout my teenagehood, like depression and anxiety, which is why i never participated in any music extracurriculars, and hence suppressed my vocal ability. i've always had a good tone and pitch, the only thing my voice was lacking was a consistent and natural vibrato. im 21 now, and i just saw your video. thank you! i'm able to get in some of that vibrato
Great video, my friend!! This is just what I needed. I'm 50 years old and averybody says I'm creasy because I've started to sing, but I don't care. I'm determined to learn!!
Hi Chuck, i would just like to thank you, ive just recently thought back on how i've developed vibrato about 2 years ago, and i remembered it was you and this video that exactly did, for someone that's impatient in wanting to learn how to vibrato, the first exercise did the trick, with just about 10 tries on the exact same day, you have one of the best videos of teaching vocal techniques whereas the rest would come up with thousands of stories about their journey and only 2 minutes of actual teaching of what they are trying to imply, god bless you and stay healthy sir.
You are a genius!!! Is so fun and enlightening to learn from you; especially from a layman like me! I am going to try your method. Is not going to be easy because I am not talented. Please keep up the good work. Thank you!
thank you soooo much! with Your help I heard a vibrato first time in my voice and I couldn't do it before. best way to learn ! thank you thank you thank you!
Thank you sir for this lovely video. I find it very helpful.. Before i used to struggle with vibrato.. But after watching your video i think i have got the hang of it. 😊

Pace of the vibrato should be the same no matter the tempo approx. 6-8 cycles per second. Too fast is tremolo. Too slow is a wobble. If it seems out of sync with the music try varying the length of time you hold it, or the volume, or when you start it, rather than the cycle.
Hi Chris...sorry about that. I've simplified some things and it is no longer there. If you are looking for anything about vocal types, click "vocal type" in the menu. The little kid just learning how to ride the bike was the perfect example!! I was going along with the vocal exercises in the video and i accidentally did vibrato but i can’t get it backkkkk. I’m going to keep practicing!
I only can use the first technique. Because when I try to do others it doesn't sound like vibrato you know. But once I stop shaking my hand vibrato stops too. Oh I don't know :(
Hi Maide: It takes some practice. I would also keep trying with the other examples. The hard part is speeding up gradually. But this is what it takes. Keep practicing. One of these is bound to help. Also, don't do it too loud. Start softer.
i live in Peru I reached a perfect vibrato during the last earthquake.
LOL!!! So Good!

Hi Mr. Gillmore, Thank you for making these videos and giving singers like me the guidance needed in contemporary singing. I am from India and proper guidance & resources on western contemporary singing is very hard to get. I can sustain and do vibrato comfortably, but I find it problematic to induce it in a phrase. Especially in parts where a vowel sound is first sustained for a bit then moving into vibrato. Also, does the pace of the vibrato depends on the tempo with which I'm singing?, sometimes certain frequencies don't seem to sit properly in the phrase and seems out of sync with the music. Thank you again
Try this: Sustain a pitch without vibrato and then start and stop the vibrato repeatedly. Practice the start-stop-start until you can do it confidently. Do it a the "e" (eat) and/or "Oh" vowel. Pace of the vibrato should be the same no matter the tempo approx. 6-8 cycles per second. Too fast is tremolo. Too slow is a wobble. If it seems out of sync with the music try varying the length of time you hold it, or the volume, or when you start it, rather than the cycle.
