Stage 1 - hold the treat on your knee and when your dog reaches out to touch the treat and his chin touches your knee, mark and treat.
Stage 2 - hold your hands slightly further back and reward any chin rest. If the dog tries different things (Ozzy has bee highly reinforced for lying down relaxing so he gives this a try), work through it and as soon as he chin rests again, praise. If he seems confused too often, go back to stage one.
Stage 3 - getting rid of the lure - we need to teach our dogs to chin rest when we're not holding a treat on our knees. So we hold our hands behind our back and as soon as he rests his chin, we use the marker word and give him a treat.
