One of the best underrated racing games ever made. The cars designs, the music, the gameplay, everything is amazing. The airplane crash moment still gives me gosebumps.
Somehow, I golded every single event in this game. Yeah, it was rage inducing at points and made me wish it didn't exist. But, despite all that, I still have a real soft spot for it. I don't know why. Probably, for the reasons like you said, it is so clear the developers put heart and soul into this, and in the end, that's really all that matters and something that I really miss. But also, the soundtrack. Wow, it is really good. I honestly did not mind hearing the same song a million times repeating the same Elite event over and over again, something deep down was actually happy that I got to listen to it again.

I’ve just recently gone back on Split Second for the first time in years to work on getting the platinum. Some of the events are very frustrating but I won’t be giving up on it. It’s a really cool arcade racing game. I think this and Blur were two very underrated 7th gen racers.
Honestly, I thought this was a really cool concept which could have used a bit more refinement in future installments. Pity we won't see them. That being said, if someone ever brought the Stuntman series back, this would be a great competitive online mode. Racing around the sets and backlots of the studios with some explosives that the crews had, ahem, left over from the shoots.
@@brokenhearth1826 yeah but a new game requires alot of resources and all the old one required was more attention.. if someone did a graphic overhaul fixed a few bugs and improved the framerate on it now and sold it as a remaster with some good marketing it would go boom and there would be funding for atleast two sequals
@@brokenhearth1826 disney dropped it so if someone else decided to pick it up or disney decided to pick it back up theyd need to get the attention of the company first there really isnt a better solution than a lightly overhauled game sold as remaster giving it a second breath of life it so rightfully deserves especially in this modern age when ppl are slowly becoming bored of the slow stale year by year released games.... need for speed/ forza/ fifa/ call of duty

I got this game 2 weeks early. It was, and still is, the only game I have ever gotten the Platinum Trophy for and completely 100%'d the whole thing. It does take dedication, but I eventually got to a point where I just didn't lose anymore. Against AI or Players, I was consistently in first place. Eventually sold it one day to make ends meet xD but boy was it a great time
I bought Split/Second at launch and loved it. But yes, it can get bloody difficult. I was majorly disappointed to learn Black Rock Studios got shut down given how this game ended. I really wanted to see Split/Second Season 2 but alas, it’s never happened. I still revisit this game on occasion. Always a good, if challenging, time.
Just so you know at the time before the closure, Black Rock already worked for the sequel, there are many concept art for the game and even someone found the lost prototype build of the 2nd game, its basically still reusing the original game assets just different physics So actually we almost got what we deserve for this game, yes the sequel but well thanks Disney Studio and screw y'all forever
Everybody saying how good this game was and i wish i could agree but to me blur was so much cooler at the time. Motorstorm apocalypse did this better imo
I'm sad you didn't mention Detonation Racing, a spiritual successor of Split/Second that made by the former devs that previously worked on split/second. i just hope that game got more exposure so this concept will stay around longer
Sega All Stars Racing Transformed Traffic attack mode comes from Sumo Digital's Outrun (2006, Outrun 2, Coast 2 Coast etc) not an inspiration from their work on the PSP Port. Great video :)
yeah, most of the stuff used in both sonic & all stars racing and sonic & all stars racing transformed are reused from outrun, and then it proceeds to the initial d arcade stages
Thanks for this. I own this game on my PSP, PS3, Steam on PC, and in the PS Plus classics collection on PS5. My all-time favorite arcade racer, with Burnout 3, a close second. I always described it to friends as Burnout Kart. I love Pure as well. Have it on PS3. Great video!
I still remember accidentally entering a competition through the 360 many years ago and ended up receiving a free copy of this game from Disney themselves as a result. I still have it with me today with the piece of paper it came with to thank me for entering the competition and "Here is your free copy of Split/Second Velocity. Happy Racing!".
I really loved this game. I played on the ps3 and it always reminded me of Death Race without the gore. This would be such a good game with todays graphics and with maybe a rated M rating for a more grim experience.
Split second to be continued ending is probably can becoming the one of the most desperatelly clifhanger ending in the history of gaming beside HALF LIFE EPISODE 2 ending or XENOGEARS disc 2 ending
1) why didn't you play the pc version 2) the game is not that hard, that's actually my problem with it. Multiplayer matches were intense. Luck has nothing to do with it. There are so many moments where thanks to the hitbox pornography you can save yourself and win by such a small margin, it feels so satisfying
THE BEST arcade racing game for sure. Last lap red button changes of the map, especially the air field control tower collapse when leading cars have already gone to the old route. Absolutely maddening chaos :D
Love ya work ColurShed! Split/Secound is my childhood and i absolutly love this game. It's trully hard game (but i don't think it's that hard)! i re-played it last year and i'm super sad about Black Rock Studios. Today we don't get that much crazy ideas in games.
I played this as a teen and loved it! I just recently got the game on sale for $5 and it is one of the best racing games I've ever played! This is a seriously underrated game, and any fan of the racing genre owes themselves to give it a shot. Especially if it's only $5!
A true forgotten banger, I recently played through in full on PSNow having only ever played the demo when it came out. Still slaps, the sense of speed is phenomenal and for sheer white knuckle excitement I can't say I've ever felt another driving game hit the heights.
Huh... Never knew about that adaptive A.I. While I remember it being a great time, I also remember eventually souring on the game because Golding events felt like pure luck no matter how good I drove.
I love that "luck" mechanic actually. One second you are first and another you are the last...So you are on your toes, your heart is beating so fast, sweating and with one lucky power play you wreck all the other racers and you win. This...this here is why this game is so special to me.
There were 2 games that made me practically beg my parents for an Xbox 360 back in 2010: Wolfenstein 2009 and Split/Second. This game absolutely is in my top 5 for racing games ever and my top 20 overall. Loved the design, detail, the destruction, I was heartbroken when Disney killed them off and to add insult to injury, the ending shows "to be continued..." at the end. Ugggghhhhh. Love this game, 10/10.
Words can not explain how much I love this game. This is not your typical brainless car game , where you just drive from point A to point B and pimp your car a little bit. Nope this game literally gets my adrenalin going, because you don't know what danger lays ahead and you must be ready to make a decision in a split second to stay alive. There's really nothing else like it and that's what makes it so special. I wish they could make a part 2, but the studio who made this is no more. 😭
Split/second was such a fantastic game, I personally loved every aspect of it and is up there as one of my all time favourite arcade racing games, it don't do enough to knock off burnout 3 from the top of that list for me though. I feel like this is one of the very last great arcade racing games and man do I miss that era
When this game was free on Xbox, it allowed me to get the final achievement I was missing. A criminally underrated game and I'm sad there has been nothing like it for years. I was an early adopter of this game, I even got a special DLC car that was exclusive to pre-order at a certain store in the UK, which has also gone defunct since.
A victim of the oversaturated racing games year, one of my favorites alongside Blur and..both suffered poor sales, ending up with no sequel or anything else. Always bummed me out considering i played both around their release just to find out what happen to em with their sales and such.
Huh. I remember this game being a healthy challenge, but rarely frustrating when I was younger. However, another game from that year was way harder than I remembered (Hot Pursuit Remastered) so maybe my younger self really lived up to my username. Split Second is a game I loved so much I bought it twice and 100%'d both times, even tho by the time I could play online (we didn't have a router until 2012) I faced only the most dedicated fans for the Platinum x_x I can't believe we haven't got many games since that borrowed any of the fantastic ideas from this gem....I hate Disney.

This game was to me pure fun. I never thought this game as very hard. I played it when I was a kid, but difficulty wasnt something on my mind. I didnt won every single match obviously, but when I lost I tried again until I won.
I'm very happy to see more and more videos talking about this underrated game! I'm still playing this game to this day, and it still looks as go as it came out!
Thank you a lot for making this video, it is very well done and the writing is on point!
Every time I see a new Colorshed video uploaded, I smile
I’ve just recently gone back on Split Second for the first time in years to work on getting the platinum. Some of the events are very frustrating but I won’t be giving up on it. It’s a really cool arcade racing game. I think this and Blur were two very underrated 7th gen racers.
Honestly this game absolutely needs the sequel, but more so it needs an FPS boost on the Xbox BC version!
Split/Second is so Underrated Pure, & Blur as well I owned all 3 of those Games great times 15 Years Ago…. Damn!.
Your videos and Whitelight's videos are very relaxing.
I wish there's a remastered Split Second.......
Nah sequel is a better choice because well if you watch the ending screen of this game you Will see why
@@bluetiger9756 the only way that we will see SS back is beside the resource and money from the developer is that there must be a some game studio that dares to bought the SS trademark from disney and let them developed the game with their own take a look at what happened to TDU and Flatout, these two games are dying in the past because their developer are gone but now we could seen them returned because the courageness of Nacon and Kylotonn that bought the game trademark and moved the game developing into their studio and the result was well like what we seen now, even everyone was hyped with TDU SC
so the great thing was just hope that there was some studio that dares to bought the SS trademark from disney and let them developing the game, considering how screwed up disney in gaming world now
I loved this game...
I love different destruction models and this ship falling down, or a skyscraper, damn.
I loved this game on the PSP. Many nights were spent playing this under the covers in bed...
i'm happy to see finally your channel start gain big subs.
Just so you know at the time before the closure, Black Rock already worked for the sequel, there are many concept art for the game and even someone found the lost prototype build of the 2nd game, its basically still reusing the original game assets just different physics
So actually we almost got what we deserve for this game, yes the sequel but well thanks Disney Studio and screw y'all forever
Split second is by far one of my most favorite games lol, they really focused on everything with this game.
Next you gotta do the legend that is Ridge Racer Type 4
Everybody saying how good this game was and i wish i could agree but to me blur was so much cooler at the time. Motorstorm apocalypse did this better imo
We want more reviews per month ! These are great !
I'm sad you didn't mention Detonation Racing, a spiritual successor of Split/Second that made by the former devs that previously worked on split/second. i just hope that game got more exposure so this concept will stay around longer
I’ve never heard of that. Is it as good as S/S? And what platforms can it be found on?
@@shadowgandalf Apple Arcade for iPhone
That’s disappointing. Was hoping you’d say PS4, or at least Steam. Thank you for the answer though.
@@shadowgandalf Are you seriously dismissing the game just because it happens to be on mobile?
@@thereviewerplays1932 I don’t have access to Apple Arcade
I loved this game back when it came out. I thought it was fun and it has good graphics for the PS3/Xbox 360 IMO.
Salut PuNkY !
I still have this game and it runs amazing on my xbox one x
Another great review by youtube best racing game reviewer!!
I played this as a teenager. I enjoyed it enough to look back on it fondly and buy a new copy 2/3 years ago cuz my old one is long gone
I really loved this game. I played on the ps3 and it always reminded me of Death Race without the gore. This would be such a good game with todays graphics and with maybe a rated M rating for a more grim experience.
oh hell yeah colourshed coming in clutch with a new review
Thats some pretty fucking insane editing you did on this video!
You know what's even sadder? The game's Season Mode ends on a cliffhanger so we'll never get to see any conclusion.
Split second to be continued ending is probably can becoming the one of the most desperatelly clifhanger ending in the history of gaming beside HALF LIFE EPISODE 2 ending or XENOGEARS disc 2 ending
1) why didn't you play the pc version
2) the game is not that hard, that's actually my problem with it.
Absolutely maddening chaos :D
choosing the wrong cars end up in a career that is impossible to advance... :(
I love Blur and Split/Second. I wish there was a mashup of both.
Amazing video like always!!
Great game! Great review! Thanks for putting in the time and work.
Absolute beast of a racing game
This game is like burnout, f-zero, and THUG2 smashed together into an awesome arcade racing experience
This was my childhood, this game is so great.
A true forgotten banger, I recently played through in full on PSNow having only ever played the demo when it came out. Still slaps, the sense of speed is phenomenal and for sheer white knuckle excitement I can't say I've ever felt another driving game hit the heights.
Great review!
I feel like this is one of the very last great arcade racing games and man do I miss that era
and it was gone in a split second
Funny thing is there is actually ost named like that:
th-cam.com/video/o3QplDH_7sk/w-d-xo.html
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 split second music sounds like its from a movie, btw just heard the gone in a split second song....instant nostalgia
Loved those 'glitch' transitions
Loved every split second of this game.
Split/Second and blur made have a mark in my childhood. Wonderful and energetic!
A victim of the oversaturated racing games year, one of my favorites alongside Blur and..both suffered poor sales, ending up with no sequel or anything else.
Always bummed me out considering i played both around their release just to find out what happen to em with their sales and such.
Now you have to review Blur next
I remember watching Nerdcubed play this game and I was hooked, this was a throwback for sure!
glitch transition effect hurts head :(
i remember seeing an ad for this game on discovery channel back then and it made me buy it
I played ten years before retiring but it's still one of my favorite games
The fact that i saw this at 2 in the morning scared me, i need help
This needs a remaster already!! It’s one I truly enjoyed
This is absolutely one of the greatest arcade racing games ever.. so, so briliant and massively fun .. absolutely fantastic
I am glad people know this game despite being criminally underrated. I wish this game gets a sequel from the new developers.
I still play this game to this day. I wish so much for a spiritual successor. I feel there is nothing else like this
Huh. I remember this game being a healthy challenge, but rarely frustrating when I was younger. However, another game from that year was way harder than I remembered (Hot Pursuit Remastered) so maybe my younger self really lived up to my username.
Split Second is a game I loved so much I bought it twice and 100%'d both times, even tho by the time I could play online (we didn't have a router until 2012) I faced only the most dedicated fans for the Platinum x_x
I can't believe we haven't got many games since that borrowed any of the fantastic ideas from this gem....I hate Disney.
