So here I am looking for an instructional video that I can send to a couple of friends on how to play Xia, and I load up this video to find... on all of TH-cam from around the world... Dan, my best gaming buddy, doing the tutorial! I was just like... well, there's Dan. Hahaha!
I know this is an old video, but a nice tip for new players, Leave completed missions face UP when you tuck them behind your player mat so that you can see the mission type. It will help you later on if you need to use one as a reroll if you can see what types you have already completed.
Since I can no longer add Annotations... I'll list corrections here in the comments: @0:28:00 To use an occupied space, you must move adjacent to the desired space and have two(2) movement remaining. One to move into the space you desire to use and the second to return to the space your ship is actually in. @1:12:00 Cargo missions are NOT revealed until at the mission point for Delivery. @1:17:06 Arms Dealer missions are NOT revealed until at the mission point for Delivery. Some people, like Rahdo and JonGetsGames, have started using the Klingon CC channel to add annotations and updates to their videos. It works pretty well. You could put something in the description, and at the beginning of new videos!
What a amazing Job! The rules was well explained !! I played Xia two or three times, but you explained some points that was not very clear for me! Thanks a Lot!
Yes. The wifey and I love it and I got the fame and fortune expansion. Kinda complicated rules and I can't find anywhere that does a good explanation of the game with expansions. Or even the base game itself.
I uses to own this one with all expansions. Which, by the way, is when the game was good, in my opinion. Did like it... but never could find players. I created a solo version but it wasn't enough to keep it. Plus, Clash of Cultures is my choice for a Nation Building game. If I still had a copy... I'd gladly make a video. Sadly, I do not.
Those are "Impact Points." It's a player variant you can get on BGG. Basically... when you take damage... you roll to see where it has to be applied to. More realistic. I have recently removed them from all my boards because the Armor Plating really can't work with them.
We made a house rule that Gate Sectors can only be commissioned by players for $5k credits and they can't be built within 2 sectors from each other. This ensures that they're sufficiently spread out and are useful to any player who wants to pay for them.
Why do Tier 1 ships have a cost (1000) if you can't ever buy a different one? Also, if you get 8000 credits while in a Tier 1 ship, can you buy a Tier 3 directly? Can you then ever get your third ship ability? (from tier 2)
Tier 1 Ships have a cost because in the Solo Campaign you can buy a Tier 1 after a Tier 3 in order to gain Fame and Gain an additional Skill Card. And No... you can't buy a tier 3 until you have a tier 2. You have to gain a tier 2 ability card.

Thanks. Is damage on NPC ships tracked in some way or do they get repaired after combat?
The video shows 1 ... I have since been corrected. It is 2. You need enough movement to use the space and move back to the adjacent space. Though my group allows only needing 1.
If you wish to use an occupied space, for example a sell space, then your video claims that 1 movement point is spent while adjacent. I believe this to be incorrect. I believe that 2 movement points are required (to go to the space and back again to your current space). This is on page 9 of the base rules and I can find no change to the rule in the expansion.
The core game is not that hard to find. It gets reprinted every few months so steer clear of the overpriced scalpers trying to make a quick buck. Embers on the other hand is sold out everywhere and hasn't been reprinted yet (it is on its way though). Definitely avoid the super high prices and just wait a bit though as it is popular enough to continually be reprinted.

Great format and clear video, wish you had continued making videos!

Ah. A good idea. I did notice they started doing that as well. Thank you.

You're welcome! Enjoy your game!
Explains everything clearly. Thanks for making the video! You should try civilization next. I can't find any good videos on that one.
Sid Myers the Board game version?

Thank you!
Amazing work. Thank you.
Nice. Thanks
Well done!
what are those stickers in the ship cards that point to the cargo spaces
I was wondering that myself.
What are the little white and black squares on the ship mats that say 1.2, 3.4, etc?

That's an interesting idea, though what's the incentive to be the first player to build a gate? Do you award a FP for building?
question: at 1:01:40 the Enforcer enters a planet and wants to attack an outlaw. Is this allowed on a planet`s surface?
It is. Combat is allow in low planet orbit.

Yes. You place damage tokens on the NPC card. They only get fully repaired after death.

Question,"Does an Outlaw ship incur a Bounty "every time" it enters Loath?"
No. Once an outlaw, they don't gain further bounty for going into outlaw planets.

Awesome! Good catch! A minor thing for sure I will post it as an edit!
xia is OOP and not available on this planet
You can preorder both games on their website. Preorders ship out July 8th.
Kosteri x games back in stock now with this experience.

It's back in print as of November 2019!
