redwings fan here, i dont see toronto or detroit offering him what hes gonna ask, toronto cant afford him and detroit cant keep putting in these middling contracts, its death by midcap players, hes not as good as kane and would likely want more years which i wouldnt give him
He's better than Kane.
Kane is only an offensive player and was literally treated with kid gloves by opposing players last season and that won't continue next season.
Bertuzzi is gritty and plays a complete game and grit is needed on the Wings in abundance.
As a Wings fan, i would like Bert back, but if the aav is over 5.5m, or the term is longer than three seasons, i don't know how to feel about it.
From an Yzerman stand point, i don't see why he wouldn't atleast re visit the idea. The good emotiona that this would bring to guys like Larks, Ray, Seider and more alone would be unreal. Also, Yzerman has been pretty vocal about wanting to get tougher.
He’ll have to come over on a team friendly deal. The reason he left is that he wanted a big boy deal and 8 million a year. If we lose Kane I want someone that will contribute to goals not just points. Just my two cents.
He'd be great on like the second or third line
I totally agree. I value Kane's ability and what players like Raymond and Cat have learned from him, but I also value Bert's relative youth, tenacity and overall play style. I'd ideally put him on a 3rd line after moving one or more of guys Stevie signed that hasnt lived up to their contracts. I'd even be willing to part with some mid round picks to make roster space at this point because we have too much talent going to waste with some of the fill-in players on the roster.
A short term deal would be ok as a 2nd/3rd line winger if that's all that Yzerman can reasonably do. Wings would be better off dumping some dead cap space and trading for a true top 6 winger
I would play him on the second line and then maybe Kasper and Mazur come up and we will have 3 agitators and then Kasper is bigger and hits and they all go to the Dirty areas and then we would not be so weak. He scored 30 goals once and he can do it again because he is a reliable player both sides of the ice. Don’t sign Perron and I will be happy because Perron is a shell of himself and only had 46 points because of assists. 12 goals is not good for a player who should be scoring more especially in the top six.
It’s not like I’m against bertuzzi coming back. The problem is the timing. The only real forward that’s needed is a second line center. Goaltender is almost a must. Cossa maybe ready 25/26. I think a goaltender would be tough tho. Since you would have to move husso off the books. So what will yzerman do. First he would try to find that true second line center. When Larkin got hurt it was a nightmare. Second if he couldn’t find that he would look for a shut down rh def top 4.
What are you talking about? Say Kane comes back.. that gives Detroit 2 legit top 6 RWs. They have Debrincat, a legit top 6 LW, but beyond that.. nothing. We absolutely NEED to sign a top 6 LW, and I'd absolutely be down with that player being Tyler Bertuzzi.
@@edenisburning when u look at Detroits priorities. One is a goaltender. Which probably won’t happen this year. 2 is a second line center. 3rd or tied with second. Is a top 4 rh def. Then a top 6 left winger. It’s not like it isn’t a need. It’s just not as important as the other holes.
@@jackconrad2667 They can't do anything with goaltending unless they unload a contract. Like or not, there's a good shot of having Husso and Lyon again. We don't want to lock down a FA too long, because Cossa is coming. The Wings also can't really shop for a legit 2C unless they buyout or trade Copp. I agree, a legit 2nd line center is probably the #1 need, but outside of Stamkos, idk how that happens. Even then, we'll have to buyout or trade Copp. i also agree on a 2nd pairing RHD, but that's going to be hard, and again.. we'll have to buyout or trade Holl or Petry. Basically, to address RHD and 2nd line center, a lot has to happen. To address the need for a top 6 LW, all Yzerman has to do is sign one or trade for one. It doesn't require him to move pieces. That's sorta why I think it's the easiest major issue to address, and I don't think Bertuzzi would break the bank. He knows the system and players, too. His transition should be more guaranteed than a new FA would be.
@@edenisburning we might be both wrong and yzerman moves husso and grabs markstrom or ullmark. That would be a feat in my opinion lol. I’m 99% sure holl is gone in whatever way. I’m like 75% sure Kane is gone. I actually like Kane as a wing. Copp and Petry stay. Ghost bear probably priced himself out unfortunately. I like him even tho he blows in the def side
@@jackconrad2667 Yeah, I'm sorta torn on Ghost. He's so good offensively, specifically on the PP, but he is absolutely TERRIBLE defensively. I feel like there has to be a more well rounded option. Pesce or Roy maybe? Btw.. I've enjoyed our little back and forth. Love talking some Red Wings with another knowledgeable fan.
I love Bert but we can’t revert to the old roster, especially with all the young kids waiting in GR.

I like Bert but he overvalues himself and it has always caused nightmares with contract negotiations. He should have signed with Boston, they tried and his gamble did not pay off because he didn't light the league on fire this year. With all of that, he still thinks he is worth more and will price himself out of Toronto. I think Yzerman was fed up negotiating with him to be honest because he turned every offer down and even his 3 year deal had to be a bridge because he would not sign for more years. Love the player but no thanks, too much of a headache.

I’m not against a return to Detroit. They’d have to weigh needs vs luxury, but I already think he’d be more productive than Copp and Compher, at a likely similar price.
Id rather have Copp, IF he was more around 4-4.5 mil AAV. His work on the PK is valuable. If Bert came back for less than 5 mil and Yzerman moved Fabbri or someone like that Im good with that.
However, I just outright disagree about Compher, he was so rarely a liability and so stable most of the time, I like him. But it is true very little flashiness to his game. Ill take stable down the middle so as the roster looks the way it does right now.
@@jonathanlong4066 yeah I don’t dislike either player, and I feel Compher could play on any line really, but I need to see more from him, like we did the last couple weeks of the season. Copp is just being used wrong, in my opinion. I think the pay these two are getting is greater than they are worth currently, but that’s not all their fault either. When I say “productive” I am strictly talking points (goals/assists) but I very much appreciate all the things Copp and Compher bring that rarely show up on the box score. In fact, if there were more physicality from Copp (like a solid back check) I’m probably not even calling him out at all. I think adding Bert to that group would likely make them all a touch better.
The last thing the Wings need is to sign that bum!
He can’t command a longterm deal after his season. I’d take him back to the wings for 3 years. No way he gets 6-6.5
Yzerman doesn't like Bertuzzi. Yzerman likes quiet types, nerdy types, and bookworm types. Guys that remind him of himself. He doesn't like Jeff Spicoli types. Watch and see.

I don't see him being worth what he wants. Det needs other things first. There not a playoff cup team yet. Stop making trades that will get them into play offs and build a team that will win a cup.
Hes the gritty, tough player that the Wings need for sure. Hes a menace and tough to play against. If its a decent deal id like it.
Larkin did say that Bertuzzi was his best friend and he literally cried when he was traded. Larkin could have some pull as far Bert wanting to come back to the wings for sure.

@@irvinepoker3187plus Kasper and Mazur and we add toughness and depth. Can’t go wrong there. Enough with the 35+ year olds, Kane wants more term and money. I don’t know why they would do that because he is not the future. We have a lot of prospects well 4 if we include Bergs who can challenge for a roster spot, Danielson, Mazur and Kasper of course Kasper was coming off a broken knee cap so he could be a different player come Camp. But knowing SY he will have the roster set through FA. I really think he should start doing PTOs.
